20:52 Francis has improved reflexes and strength, and think of the state Wade is in here after all that torture he is far from optimal. So, it isn't strange Francis got the better of him here. One of the funny things is that Wade kept asking the bad guys to tell him where Francis is, but since Francis calls himself Ajax they just don't know who Deadpool is talking about. Probably would have found him faster if Wade asked where Ajax was. xD

Fun fact: Ryan Reynolds worked for years to get this movie made. He absolutely loves the character and there quite literally is no one on the planet that can play Deadpool other than Ryan Reynolds. Somehow, a CGI version of the highway scene was leaked by "totally not Ryan Reynolds" and the internet exploded and demanded that the movie be made. As others have said, Ryan Reynolds was no stranger to superheroes before this, but they weren't very successful. He already played a version of Deadpool in X-men Origins, and in the DC universe he played Green Lantern. Both are heavily, and ironically referenced here. The "my lips are sewn shut" was because that's exactly what happened to him then (and the action figure was of how he looked). And the references to a supersuit being green and animated was of course to Green Lantern. There are of course even more references in part 2, but some are to "Logan" which had come out in the meantime. A *serious* superhero movie that also got an R rating. Good watch in its own right, and does not depend on knowing the rest of the X-men movies, beyond a basic knowledge of who Wolverine and Professor X are.

A lot of fans of the comics thought that the studio didn't ugly Ryan Reynolds up *enough*, because in the comics, his scarred appearance is the result of his getting Wolverine's healing factor (Logan's blood was part of the serum used on him), which then combined with his cancer. It's also part of why he's so mentally unstable; he's constantly growing, then healing, new tumors throughout his body, including his brain. As a note, Deadpool 2 had the same hard-R rating as the first (and hopefully, Disney will allow the third to also have it)... but Fox also milked it by, for Christmas of that year, rereleasing a PG-13 cut of it as "Once Upon a Deadpool," with a new framing device. Specifically, that Deadpool has kidnapped Fred Savage, bound him up with duct tape, placed him in a recreation of the set from the opening of The Princess Bride, and is telling him the story of the movie just like how Princess Bride was framed as a bedtime story for Savage's character. I never got around to seeing that cut, and I don't think that version was ever released on DVD, so I'm not sure if I'll ever get to see the scenes with Reynolds and Fred Savage.

So Wade's super power is super accelerated regeneration, just like Wolverine. HOWEVER, his cancer cells also regenerate at an accelerated rate, so his body is actually mostly cancer, thus the ruined skin, and the 4th wall breaking. His brain is so riddled with cancer, he's so insane he's actually super sane. He KNOWS he's a comic book character (or in this case, movie), thus why he talks to the audience. Though in the comics he also has 2 voices in his head, represented by a white dialogue box, and a yellow dialogue box. So it's not that he's super strong, nor has super reflexes. He just knows nothing can kill him because of his regeneration. So at the start, he TOTALLY broke every bone in both his legs, but they were healed within....say, 30 seconds. And there's no need to dodge bullets when the bullet holes will heal, and any projectiles still inside will get expressed. Francis (sorry, Ajax) meanwhile, as he said, developed super strength, and his nerves became completely deadened. We also saw during the shootout on the freeway he seems to have super reflexes as well. So he doesn't feel pain, and thus will never be slowed down by it in a fight. Angel got super strength and super durability, thus her ability to go toe to toe with Colossus.

Ryan was actually in at least three "superhero" movies before this, though only the hero in one of them. He co-starred in Blade Trinity as a sidekick-type character, he starred in Green Lantern as the hero, and between those two, he unfortunately played a version of Deadpool that we're all trying to forget, in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. It was an utter abomination that should never have seen the light of day. Thankfully Ryan was able to redeem the character with this franchise.

A fun little tidbit. The reason Deadpool left the duffle bag in the cab was because Fox cut their budget so they couldn't afford to do the big gun fight they had planned.

Deadpool has super healing, much stronger than Wolverines. It basically makes him immortal even if his head were cut off he’d survive where Wolverine may die from that. Deadpool’s healing power also causes him to be insane, and damage to his brain either physically or mentally heals and has caused him to go crazy, in the comic books he may be even crazier than like the Joker. He’s not really good or bad. Any of the beings that have healing factors are stronger than normal people because when they exert their muscles the tissue gets damaged and heals back stronger so just like anyone that works out but theirs are super powered, if any of these beings actually worked out like a body builder they’d be like Hulk sized in like a week because they heal much faster. Deadpool also has perfect aim due to his special forces training almost to super human aim.

The post credits scene is direct reference to the post credit scene of "Ferris Bueller's Day Off." The Deadpool unicorn in the credits pokes Gina Carano in the "A." That can't be an accident. Deapool is a pop culture junky. Years ago, they introduced the Wade Wilson character in "X-Men Origins:Wolverine" Ryan Reynolds had the swords even back then. When they introduced Deadpool the first time, he was mute and had the swords grafted to his arms. They completely botched it, and he definitely references that as well as he references the Green Lantern failure too.

The whole 'Francis' deal is sort of a matter of power dynamic. The guy wants to be taken seriously and feared, hence why he named himself Ajax. He wants to be viewed as an absolute threat who controls other threats (which is probably important in the career field of superhuman trafficing.) By calling him by his real name, which Francis makes no attempt in hiding how much he HATES it, Deadpool is broadcasting that he will never: 1. Respect him and 2. Fear him. The idea is that if you take away the influence one has over you, you take away any power they believe they have

The first 'R' rated movie (Restricted to 18 and over without a parent present) in history to become a blockbuster (almost a billion globally). Fox tried to talk them into a PG-13, but Ryan said in HAD to be 'R' rated to be a real Deadpool. And thank the gods, he got to make it... Such a great film!

Deadpool was Ryan Reynold's pet project that he spent so long trying to get made. He was Deadpool in the shitty Wolverine movie because the studio said they would make a real Deadpool film. This only got greenlight when the director or him released the freeway footage which was a test screen before full production. That Highway scene got so much attention they made the film and was the highest grossing R rated film, which is why they said ok to Logan

"Cult fan-base"?!? Deadpool is part of the American pop culture zeitgeist since his creation in 1991! His iconic, sardonic catch phrases and portrait have graced all sorts of merch from bumper/car stickers to clothing to posters to tattoos. It is the fact that his content is too adult by studios for a "super hero" movie that kept one from being made. In fact Fox was so concerned about the character's typically potty mouth that in "X-man Origins: Wolverine" they stitched Deadpool's mouth closed! An absolute heresy against comicbook-kind!! If it weren't for Ryan Reynold's persistence that their was an adult audience for superhero content, these movies would not have been made despite the character's immense popularity in the States.

Wade couldnt get cosmetic surgery. I mean, he could, but since his healing factor kicked in while his body was already essentially dehydrated by the vacuum chamber that's what his healing factor sees as "normal". So no matter what he does, he will always revert back to this form as it's what the default is.
