You need to know, that the band members of this Band were all in the Thomaner Chor, the most famous Boys choir in Germany with ITS own school, founded roughly 800 years ago.. so they basically learned to harmonize. The song is from the early 90s, I grew up with it
@summersun6536Күн бұрын
Just a quick correction: Jens Sembner was part of the "Dresdner Kreuzchor," which is as well-known as the Thomanerchor (actually, it's more internationally renowned during times of GRD). Both boys' choirs have a tradition of over 800 years, making them two of the oldest choirs in the world. However, there's no real competition between them. Every year, the choirs play a traditional soccer game against each other and celebrate together afterwards.

If you are interested in "weird" German music culture: Neue Deutsche Welle (New German Wave) or short: NDW. It was really a new wave that rolled over Germany. DAF, Trio, Nena, Extrabreit, Spider Murphy Gang, Hubert Kah, Fräulein Menke, Peter Schilling, Fehlfarben, Joachim Witt, Geier Sturzflug, UKW,… the list goes on. The origins lie in British punk / new wave music, but a very unique style quickly developed. What was particularly interesting was that the songs were sung in German. At that time there were only German hits for the older generation, and young people only listened to English-language music. The New German Wave discovered the German language for itself and actually revolutionized the German music world. It was a very, very creative, crazy, fun and freeing time. Some songs also became very popular in the English-speaking world and you probably know them too: Nena's "99 Luftballons" ("99 Red Balloons"), for example. Falco ("Amadeus") can also be counted among them, even though he was Austrian. Peter Schilling's "Major Tom" was also internationally known, as was Trio's "Da Da Da".

They indeed started their career under the name "Herzbuben" ("Jack of hearts") in the late 1980s in GDR, and gained some popularity since their style was fresh and uncommon (and somehow politically critical, too). After the German reunion they changed the name to "Die Prinzen" ("The Princes") since they did not want to be confused with the Bavarian folk music duo "Die Wildecker Herzbuben".

Die Prinzen used to be singer in a childrens choir and from there they started out as an acapella band. They have some serious skills there. This is one of their later works, where they are drifting more towards mainstream pop music. Songs like "Gabi and Klaus" or "Fahrrad" show their true potential a lot more. So you might want to look at that as well ;) German music videos tend either to be plain boring or get down some very creative and witty visual works ... either of art or hillarious absurdity (maybe to prove germans have humor after all ;)). Some that fit into that category are: Die Ärzte - "Männer sind Schweine", "Manchmal haben Frauen" or "Yoko Ono" Knorkator - "Buchstabe", "tut uns leid" or "Weg nach unten" Rammstein - "Deutschland", "Keine Lust" or "Amerika" Deichkind - "Keine Party", "Immer gerade aus" or "wer sagt denn das?" Actually songs today are so short because of streaming platforms like spotify, which only count a song as played after it's been listened to for a set % of the song. But there is also a 'shortest time' for something to be counted as a song. And those two things combined make about 2:30 a sweetspot for a song.
