If you order a drink “half and half”, its very possible you will get half tea and half lemonade, if you dont specify half sweet and half unsweetened. I normally ask for just unsweetened and add a little sugar to my taste (im diabetic and have to be extra careful). Southern sweet tea is like a desert syrup.
@jooleebilly
@jooleebilly 9 ай бұрын
Agreed that Southern sweet tea is like a 500 bgl spike in a cup. So sweet!! Here, half & half is half sweet, half unsweet tea. The kind with half-sweet tea, half-lemonade is called an Arnold Palmer. Apparently is was his favorite drink when golfing. I love those if they're "diet," but as a fellow diabetic, I usually go for the plain unsweet tea. And then freak people out by not using lemon, but milk or cream, like I do with hot tea.

I don't know who my mom learned it from but due to wanna make healthier thing for us kids, my mom's potato salads has boiled carrot chunks with the boiled potato chunks... and we generally try to boil in stocks instead of plain water. We do vinegar-mayo/mayo-vinegar base though (a bit of white vinegar in mayo with optional small pinch of sugar, we do tend tonjust work with what we had so we had used pickle or relish juice as replacement for white vinegar and sugar too). Usually some potato and carrots will disintegrate into the base when mixing is done though so the color looked like it's a mustard base when it is not. Season with salt and pepper. It was always a hit though, at potlucks.

ONE American told one of those Brit reactors once that we dip things in the US, they did it, and they all watch each other's videos. So now they all think dipping is a big thing in America. I think the confusion started because Brits seem to rely on the restaurant always saucing, but some American chains like Taco Bell or Chick-fil-A usually rely on customers saucing things themselves. Somehow the phrase dips got used and confusion was born. I also think someone told them we usually dip fries in milkshakes, where in reality a few people do, but not most.

Macaroni & Cheese is really good if it is made by someone who has mastered the art of making it. BBQ is wonderful if it is made by someone who has mastered the art of making it. Corn pudding is mysterious. But, corn with green chilies and other flavorful things is mind-blowing. And, potato salad... you could do a tasting video on that one dish alone. As for BBQ sauce, there are different bases for sauce in different regions. Southeastern BBQ sauces are usually thin/runny, vinegar or mustard based sauces. The one I favor is a thicker, red sauce with all sorts of seasonings in it... good for cooking, sandwich dressing and dipping. It is especially good with steak fries (thick cut potato fries). When you make it to America, try to taste BBQ from every region. It is bound to be an interesting and delicious journey.

Pork is generally easier than beef to cook well. But if both are prepared perfectly, brisket is way better than pork ribs. Of course, that's my opinion as a Texan. In a lot of the south, BBQ is almost entirely pork and drenched in sauce. In Texas (central Texas anyway), beef is king and sauce is seen as a crutch for people who can't properly season and smoke meat.

I'm not crazy about mayo based potato salad...I prefer mustard based. If you like deviled eggs, you'd like that version. You mix cooked potatoes (cut into cubes), mayo, mustard, sweet pickle relish, dill pickle relish, pimentos, a little salt and pepper. It's better the day AFTER you make it. You can also add some chopped up hard boiled egg and chopped onion (for flavor and texture). If I have celery in the house I will chop up some into smaller pieces and add it for texture (crunch) as well.

Truth. Our family's default recipe is 1 cup (200 grams) sugar to a gallon (3.79 liters) of water, and *calculates* about half an ounce (14 grams) of black tea. (We use two Tetley "family size" teabags "for Iced Tea".) Boil water, pour into pitcher with sugar and teabags, stir & let steep ten minutes, remove bags, let cool, add ice, drink. Store it in the fridge. Note: You can boil half the water, then add the other half cold or room-temp after the steeping phase. Just make sure you mix it up good. I know folks who add up to twice as much sugar to their tea, and that's normal here. My family actually goes a little light on the sugar. XD

Sweet tea - what they said below. I'd suggest Yorkshire brand regular, and double the amount of tea. You want it strong so the ice doesn't dilute it. We drink gallons in hot weather! Soo good. Potato salad - yes, tons of different recipes. My family's is a simple one. Boil potatoes in their jackets until tender. Cool, peel, cut up in cubes. Not huge ones; about 12 millimeters. If you get them too big the flavor doesn't soak in enough. Throw in a big bowl. Hardboil about one egg for each two potatoes if they're small; one egg per big potato. (Unless you really like eggs, then make more. I prefer more potato than egg.) Dice those and add. Yes, they'll fall apart a bit. No worries, they're supposed to. Mince several dill or sweet pickles fine, whichever you like, toss in, add a couple glugs of pickle juice. Or do the easy thing and use pickle relish. Add some generous large spoonfuls of mayonnaise. Season well with salt, onion salt, and pepper. Stir to blend really well. Sprinkle top with paprika to your liking. Stick in fridge for at least a couple hours. Devour with fried chicken. 😁 The vinegar salad he mentions is called German potato salad in America, and is served warm. It's wonderful too. A lot of cooked bacon broken up, sliced boiled potatoses, chopped onions, simmered briefly in a mix of the bacon fat, some white vinegar, and some sugar, seasoned with salt and pepper. And frequently more things, but I do it simple. 😄 Wunderbar!

There is a Jolly reaction to Southern sweet tea during their first Trying Biscuits and Gravy video where Olly says you could pour Southern sweet tea on waffles as a syrup and eat them.

Potato Salad is like Mac and Cheese - there are 1000s of recipes; you always have to give them a shot- you can't judge any of them by what you have had previously.

In South Korea they have a bomb US wings and BBQ place that's super popular. If they can do that in Korea, you can bring good ribs to the UK, bro. I believe in you! Find the best small chain here, convince them to branch out, and BLAMMO! Awesome BBQ (both Texas and Kansas City, because why not?) and they could open the first UK restaurant near you. Make it happen, dude!! You can do it!

That does not look like our sausage. Parts of Texas were settled by Germans. The sausage is based on old German, Polish, and Czech recipes and smoked with mesquite. Our sauce doesn't look like that either. I think the owner was trying to suit the pallette of those from South Carolina. In Texas, try Lockhart and Luling sausage. Go to Chisholm trail or Black's.

Check out Mr. H's video at the Spitfire BBQ in the UK. Spitfire cooks went to Texas to learn the technique. You can have Texas style BBQ in the UK. 😊 Find out where it's at and show us your reaction. Love to see it.

Foreigners come here and order mac & cheese at every single restaurant they go to, and we see all those videos. Seriously normal Americans do not live on Mac & cheese, and no one’s forcing them to buy that at these restaurants. Personally I almost never eat Mac & cheese, and I’m certainly not going to waste money on it at a bbq joint, I go there for meat.

Mac and Cheese varies wildly depending on where you go, and what region you go too. It depends on what cheese (or cheese blends) they used, what texture of noodle you like, do you like it drier like a casserole? or creamy/gooey? Do you want a little crunch with a crumble topping? did they put other seasonings in it? etc, etc.... I've had good Mac and Cheese, and I've had bad Mac and Cheese... You'll need to try it at several places to give it an honest take.

When I worked at McDonald's in 2006 to 2008. My manager in his mid 20s(I turned 18 in 2007) had me go to the store to get sugar and koolaid. He made some of the sweetest koolaid ever for the crew. Haha I miss working at McDonald's.
