Not so handy with a saw or a hammer - but they'll cook or clean without a problem. Me? I've lived in the burbs all my life and I've spent days working on clearing shit after storms. The problem is we're talking on a block by block basis so you can't really generalize. The exceptions tend to be the people from the big apple or the city of brotherly love. When I arrived he answered the door and told me that I needed to leave his property because he was going to get a gun then he closed the door in my face. I went back to my van, calling my office to inform them, and he came out and shot the side of my van with a shotgun just as I ducked in. I backed out of his driveway and halfway down the street with my office manager still on the phone hearing the whole thing. The patient went back into the house and I stayed and waited for the police to arrive. They arrested him (without incident) and I wasn't hurt but it was one heck of an afternoon.

Those officers are lucky that shotgun was loaded with bird shot. For those who are unaware, There is a wide variety of shotgun ammo available with the smallest sizes of shot being refereed to as bird shot and even smaller snake shot. The idea being the smaller pellets hitting have enough energy together to take down a bird while not having enough in one small spot to just cartoonishly blow the thing apart into a cloud of feathers. But because those pellets are so small and have such low mass individually they slow down quickly and the further away you are the less energy they have left and the less likely they are to be lethal. If you can mention the officers say that they aren't certain what they got hit with but they know it wasn't a slug because they are still there. Shotgun slugs are typically use for hunting deer or even bears and the are essentially just a big hunk of metal shoved into a shotgun shell. They are nowhere near as accurate as a rifle and they won't go nearly as far as a dedicated hunting rifle but you absolutely would never want to be on the receiving end of one and those officers are correct that if either one had been hit in the head with one of those they would not have been having a conversation.

Military service is voluntary for Swiss women. Any Swiss man who does not do military or alternative service is liable to pay a tax. This tax is levied by the Confederation and assessed and collected by the Cantons. Also if I remember correctly, though I could be wrong and I'll accept it if I am, but firearms training is done as part of their children and young adult's education. They have a Civil Defense program that acts as a nation-wide militia, which can be activated to protect the Swiss Nation. The Major difference between them and the US is that the US doesn't require military service, just for originally born males (that includes trans women) to be registered for drafting in case of war. It is also not closely interlinked to cultural normality like the Swiss do.

True rampage killings are not actually especially common considering our population is probably in excess of 360m, the media just over-reports them to perpetuate fear. The current trend of rampage killings can be directly traced back to the unprecedented amount of coverage the media gave to the Columbine shooting. The distance should make most of them irrelevant too, for most people it's the equivalent of living in Bucharest and freaking out about crime in Paris. The majority of gun violence in this country is 'mutual combat' between bangers, which isn't even considered a crime in some cities.

I live in the rural PNW aswell and while gun violence isn't common at all at least in my area, many people I know are armed and willing to help if shit goes down. It's just unfortunate that scenarios like this happen, some people mentally break and this suspect 100% isn't mentally stable. And I know people are going to say "then why was he allowed to own a gun?", and that comes down to if his record was clean when he bought it and was he mentally stable at the time of purchase. Some people don't mentally break until after they have the means of lethal harm and there's no real way to prevent it. And no, gun control doesn't help especially in a country as large as America. The majority of shootings occur in "gun free zones" because shooters know it's easy pickings and they are less likely to face resistance, hence all the school shootings and mall shootings. I hope this little bit of info helps inform those of you who don't know much about firearms and firearm related crime. When it comes to carrying a gun for protection, the old addage applies. "Better have it and not need it, than need it and not have it." I hope I never have to use my guns to take another human life, but if you endanger innocent people you need to be dealt with accordingly to preserve life.

nah, hard disagree, particularly with the assumption that birdshot isn't "truly deadly", what is meant to be said by rip van winkle is that in close enough ranges, the birdshot doesn't spread far enough for the shot to actually disperse the kinetic energy, acting with comparable kinetic delivery to a really under-powdered slug or buckshot. there is one example of a police shooting i can remember where the shooter was capable of instantly killing a police officer from the distance of about one to two car lengths. the reality is, they were likely only the distance of a few feet between them experiencing what they experienced here and being killed instantly, and it shouldn't be downplayed for that reason. they were lucky enough to be just at the right distance for the birdshot to get enough spread to disperse the force enough for the injuries sustained to not be fatal. @@Cam1an

Both officers were hit in the face by either birdshot (tiny lead, steel, or tungsten BB's used for hunting small to medium sized birds) or buckshot (larger lead ball projectiles most commonly used for self defense). Buckshot can be lethal for a fair distance especially depending on whete it hits, while birdshot is almost never lethal on people outside of extremely close range, but very painful and can cause a lot of bleeding. Both officers were hit in the face and any wound on the head tends to bleed a lot, so their blood is running down their faces into their mouths and that's why they keep spitting. Shotguns fire shells loaded with multiple projectiles (called shot) birdshot shells can have up to 200 tiny bb's inside a single shell, whereas buckshot usually has either 8 or 9 pellets that are each roughly the same diameter as a 9mm handgun bullet. Also the guy was under the influence of something very strong, not just alcohol of weed, he was GEEKED, he didn't remember shooting at the cops. It’s not unusual when there’s an officer involved shooting for the neighboring county to do the investigation and hold the prisoner. The deputies fully recovered and returned to service.

For those that are not familiar with guns ammo is insanely expensive right now. It's roughly $10-30 a clip depending on where you live and what you shoot. I have a 30.06 and each round is about a $1.50. Every single shot. I could empty my entire bank savings in a few minutes and it's only semi auto.

My dad is a police officer, an Asst. Fire Chief, and an EMT-D. The area we live in isn't very dangerous, but crime has increased a lot in the last few years. It is VERY scary to the family of every officer, knowing what can happen to them every time they go to work. This was brought home to all of us a couple years ago when in the closest sizeable town/city several officers were in a similar situation to this, and two of them were killed. The silver lining to that incident was seeing how people came out to support the surviving officers, and the family members of all the officers, and pay their repsects to all the fallen. It wasn't just the locals, either, but the surrounding counties and from all over the state, and other neighboring states. It was tragic, but inspiring.

Law is in the U.S. is you can only use deadly force if your life is currently being threatened. This includes law enforcement. If the guy disarms they cannot legally shoot him that would be considered murder. Some states have castle doctrines where if someone illegally enters your homee reguardless if they are armed can be shot to protect your property. Onpy about half the states let you protect your property with deadly force.

Police are woefully outnumbered in America. In the rural areas, it can be as bad as a couple cops per county on each shift. In the cities, it's something like 1 per 1000 citizens if not worse. Gun ownership among civilians is both a curse and blessing to them. They may run into that bad guy but the odds that they'll have backup from the guy down the street is pretty decent.

That's a last-resort if there's an active threat. (This guy was dangerous obviously, but he listened to cops and didn't start a fight after he came out the second time.)The goal is to arrest them. As for why the dude did this? Drunk and intoxicated. As mentioned in the video.

I understand why you were under the impression of him being killed for shooting two police officers given what we often hear from standoffs like these however in situations like these the goal of the police is not to shoot to kill despite having one of their own people injured but to apprehend. Often when a suspect is killed it's more so because they continued to resist arrest and are actively shooting back at police or endangering citizens this piece of shit realized if he continued to resist arrest then most like his home was going to be raided by S.W.A.T. or policemen with better protection in cases like these, there's a much higher chance of the active shooter's death.
@kimplpnoklahoma96607 ай бұрын
I believe this was in the fall-winter and with the time change it brings the dark early. The civilians are heroes and this shows how the lawful gun owners saved the officers. They were the way the officers were able to have “backup” while waiting for their fellow law enforcement officers to arrive. This was way out in the middle of nowhere and I think this is a very large county and they were pretty spread out in that county.

Kabir, I am the daughter of a cop. Of course I'm older now, my dad retired in the 1980's but even then it was bad and it's worse for them out there now. In my dad's 25 years of service he was shot in the chest missing his heart by centimeters, a separate time shot in the butt, and the worst was probably when he pulled over a drunk driver who wouldn't get out, wouldn't turn of his engine. My dad finally reached in to turn the car off just as the driver decided to speed off dragging my dad for a while with him. He retired about a year after that episode. What they face out there affects how they are with everyone sometimes. My dad was very much a loner, jumpy, a loud noise would cause a reaction in him. It was just like that for the rest of his life. He passed in 2019 so he lived a long time after his long and rough career. With all that he had an easier time than officers today, and I get there are good and bad officers but I can also see that they all pay a high price for the crimes of the few, there are really, really good men and women out there trying to do a job and help the public and they face very grave danger.
@GodOfWar2218 ай бұрын
And that's why, us as Americans keep up the fight to preserve our rights to keep and bear arms. These neighbors, were more than willing to jump in and protect the officers. Suicide by cop is fairly prevalent, but I am not sure that is what is happening here. Most likely he is so drunk or drugged up he does not know what he is doing. Bird shot is not nice, but it probably wouldn't kill them. Police do not follow a policy of an eye for an eye. They would have done everything in their power to end the situation with no more shots fired. And as long as they have held onto him, I would not count on 20 years or anywhere close. The DA probably cannot build a case of intent.
