I got an A+ in arts back in school because I chose to do a poem and I did it based on one of their songs.. They even promoted it to an exhibition and I were told later that a girl said months later specific poem made her made her not to goodnight herself.. If you go down this hole and read the lyrics you will get lost (and then you'll find the side-projects and lost). I hope that you would go deeper -because this band (as many) have ballads and softer songs as well even though they are one of the bands where you'll ever see as much fire in a show in a lifetime (and this is an OLDD video (they have stepped up their game for today)

The song is about a person who doesn't want to commit to a steady relationship/marriage. The way Rammstein presents the line slowly building up word by word (Du .... Du hast ... Du hast mich ...) , it is at first ambiguous whether it says "You hate (me)" (Du hasst (mich)) or "You have" (Du hast), which is very intentional. Once the first line is complete, that ambiguity is dissolved and the line (Du hast mich gefragt, und ich hab nichts gesagt) means "You have asked me, and I didn't reply". By the way, Rammstein is the most succesful German language band on the international (aka non German speaking) music market in terms of record sales. (The overall most succesful German band on the international music market are the Scorpions, but they of course sing in English).

Hey. I am watching your Videos for a long time with fun and now you are reacting to a favorite band of mine, thank you!!! Now, Rammstein is a band of the genre industrial metal from Germany. They are, World wide!!!!, the most popular german singing band. For example: years ago they do one live concert in Madison Square Garden in New York. It was sold out in half an hour. Their live concerts are so good because there are so many actings and Pyrotechnics. The lead singer is a prooved Pyrotechnician. If you want to see more of great live acts like this you are watching today, look for more live Performance from Rammstein. Maybe from the concert in Madison Square Garden. They chanel "Bukstabu" is verry good because there you have a lot of english subtitles. But please, when you hear or read Rammstein lyrics, please do not only read the lyrics. Do a little research because they are working with a lot of double meaning. I hope I will see much more live reaction from Rammstein from you! Many greatings from Duisburg in Germany!

If you want to see more of their (incredible) live performances I would suggest Rammlied (live from Madison Square Garden) Engel (live from Madison Square Garden) Sonne (live at Rock im Park 2017) Links 2 3 4 (live from Madison Square Garden) Ich will (live from Hurricane Festival 2016) Ich tu dir weh (live from Madison Square Garden) (don't take the lyrics too serious) Sehnsucht (live in Nimes, France, 2005 Volkerball tour) Feuer Frei! (live from Madison Square Garden) Benzin (live from Madison Square Garden) Mein Teil (live at Hurricane Festival 2013) Wollt Ihr das Bett in Flammen sehen (live from Paris) Frühling in Paris (live from Paris) Los (live from Völkerball, Nimes, 2005) Amazing official videos Sonne (Sun) heavy, screwed up fairy-tale Links 2 3 4 (left) partly heavy march Ich will (I want) heavy, simple, way to celebrity Spring! (Jump!) (fan-made animated version with english subtitles) slow, partly heavy, very dark sarcasm! Radio (Radio) catchy song (with serious background) Keine Lust (not in the mood) heavy, funny, slidely sad Mein Herz brennt (My heart burns) (official video, whole band) scary, nightmarish, very special Mein Herz brennt (My heart burns) (official video, Till & piano) scary, nightmarish, different mood Amerika (America) catchy, not a love song Mein Land (My land), sounds & looks like easy living (unless you look at the slightly developing of the lyrics) Ohne Dich (without you) melancholic, Till singing softly Amour (love (French)) lyric video Newest official videos from their last album "Zeit" in sequence of the tracks on the album: Zeit (Time) slow, dark, melancholic, emotional Zick Zack (Snip Snap) catchy song, sarcastic, funny Angst (Fear) very Rammstein, scary, credits at the end are helpful to understand the message Dicke Titten (Big Boobs) heavy (most of the time), catchy, funny, credits are funny too (my view) Adieu (Goodbye) dark, sometimes heavy, emotional Last but not least the great (but not nice) video "Deutschland" which has a lot of references to (mostly unpleasent) parts of German history. Video, lyrics, and sound are great (my view) and work very well together. To get less confused, watch the version with English subtitles from "educated marine". I wish you to enjoy your Rammstein journey.

Others have pointed out the homonym hast, it can mean to have and to hate, depending on how it‘s spelt. A while back the band or rather their lead singer was embroiled in a investigatiin re the alleged sexual abuse of female fans (row zero) but it didn’t affect them negatively as far as their tours are concerned. Say about them what you will, love them or hate them, but they’re one of the best known bands in the world, all while singing in German! That’s effing impressive, considering how few people outside of Germany, Austria or Switzerland actually speak German

In German, "hast/hasst" is also a play on words! In German, Du hast or Du hasst is not clear without the following Content! You only know whether Du hast (You have) or Du hasst (You hate) is meant in relation to the following Text! ……. you have asked me, only now it is clear that ….. du hast mich gefragt (You have ask me) is meant! When I heard the Song for the first Time I thought Rammstein probably meant Du hasst (You hate), only when I heard the following Verse did I realize that you have it meant! Hast and hasst are two Words that Sound the same in German! No German can tell just by hearing (Du hast/hasst) what is meant! It only becomes clear in Context and from the Spelling!
