Why am I not surprised he went to UW-Madison? What did they use to say about Madison? One-hundred square miles surrounded by reality? When I went there, they still had pictures of Ho Chi Minh in the co-op windows, and this was ages after the Vietnam War. Oh, the buses in Madison were great until the temps plummeted to -20 degrees F. Standing in that while waiting for a bus that never came is quite unpleasant and dangerous. By the way, ask any German about DB. I recall the smell of piss and the homeless living in the Paris Metro vividly. Watch out for the pickpockets and sneakthieves in Paris, too. Now, there's a problem with East European gangs/ruffians mugging people in Vienna. What about the Middle Eastern crime families stealing historical jewel-encrusted swords and what-not from museums in Germany to melt down etc. Most Americans like the independence that autos provide. There is some truth to what he says about US healthcare, but it's overblown. The actual problems such as high-cost have a lot to do with inefficiencies caused by external factors. Also, countries with socialised medicine practice rationing. Some of the high-cost of drugs in the US is attributable to the fact that socialised countries threaten to reverse-engineer or ignore patents if they don't get substantial discounts on drugs, so the US consumer winds-up picking up the difference. Gun ownership has always been high in the US, mass shootings have not. They are a recent phenomenon. Something has changed in the society and not for the better. Why is that? Avoid cities like NY, LA, SF, Chicago, Philly, Baltimore and DC and not only avoid the traffic but the crime. Population heterogeneity seems to correlate to crime and violence. Who gives a f**k about the number of languages you speak? That's a function of geography in Europe. In Europe, it can sometimes be useful to speak another language. Americans only need to speak English. In Germany, there are many dialects and not all are mutually intelligible. So, everyone knows Hochdeutsch. I guess my point is things are not quite so black and white as this video makes out. There are complicated reasons why things are as they are everywhere.

I had a glass of strawberry juice for breakfast. I'm American. If I go out I eat more, and that is what he's talking about. Of course America has bakeries that bake stuff. I think this guy is sort of sheltered. He's from the midwest and doesn't realize how different cultures in the USA can be. He needs to stay in Europe I think, and stop talking about the USA, because he's clueless. He might know about Europe, but not the US. I think he must be trying to impress his European girlfriend's family. LOL

There are cafes and alfresco dining everywhere in my city, San Francisco. We also have "beautiful old historic trams" and even some Beaux Arts buildings and squares as in Europe. No we don't have only one bin. Again, in SF we have 3: Recycle (green), compost (blue) and landfill. "I can pick out Americans anywhere" - For starters, they're all wearing ball caps like YOURS.

I love how he said gas prices in the US were expensive but he paid $60 for a 1/2 tank of gas in Austria...yea, NOPE. I'll happily wait in a line (which has only happened like twice ever) with my current $2.61 per gallon and fill my tank for $30, lol. I've done the public transportation thing when I didn't have a car which luckily was while not as good as bigger cities wasn't bad where I used to live but the waits and transfers made me mental because they didn't run after midnight. When you get off at 11pm and you're trying to make that last connection and still have to walk a 1/4 mile in the dark to your house??? There are plenty of places where biking is available now more than when his grandma was younger or even when I was younger. Now there are specifically marked lanes for pedestrian biking or walking on roads and across bridges. It just depends where you are. The terrain in Europe is nothing compared to the US when he's well aware so having a transit system throughout is not feasible. Speaking many foreign languages comes down to CHOICE. If I wanted to learn 8 different languages, I totally could. He's forgotten that the US is the world's melting pot of cultures so people here could learn multiple languages as well. I love how he implies that cigarette vending machines in Europe is shocking. I bet he'd be shocked to discover they used to be a thing in the US in the 70s and 80s. I distinctly remember them in restaurants (smoking was allowed) and other businesses. I don't like how he compares architecture and dumps on the US. And dumping on the food in the US. Fast food is a choice regardless of your income. There are PLENTY of ways to eat healthy in the US. He is definitely generalizing about breakfast food too. NOBODY eats those heavy breakfasts all the time. I barely eat breakfast at all most days. When I'm hungry, I might have some scrambled eggs and toast or some pancakes and bacon or sausage. Yes we have recycling but depending on where you are, it might be more or less extensive a process.

I agree. Although he had some pretty cool video footage that I enjoyed, could have done without his commentary taking the major political/cultural talking points from all around the internet. It's pretty clear what has influenced his limited frame of reference. Somehow his experience at that huge metropolis of Madison (sorry - sarcasm) where the Green Bay Packers are more well known than the entire state, thinks he has enough knowledge to take chunks of land divided up by malleable and debatable political lines called Europe, a continent, somewhat proportionate in size to a country called the United States, also subdivided into a similar number of pieces called states with major cultural diversity in both. Where is the duct tape when you need it? Hopefully, he will stay where he seems to feel more comfortable.

Once again, the healthcare disparity is poorly explained leading to total misunderstanding. Just once, one of these people talking about European healthcare needs to state clearly how much the tax for an individual JUST TO SUPPORT HEALTHCARE is so that it could be compared to the premiums Americans pay for theirs. Then, this videographer doesn't explain his personal circumstances. Since he's living wandering around Europe, he probably isn't like the 90% or so of Americans who have either employer-paid or government-paid health insurance. That makes his view of the differences between the systems entirely invalid. I could make a video and compare health systems, pretending my own case is the universal one too. I am retired from the US Navy. I see a primary care physician at the VA for which there is no charge at the time of service. I am also on Medicare so I have the option of seeing any specialist in the US, again at little or no cost at the time of service. I pay roughly $7 for a month's supply of most drugs or $38 for a 3-month supply of certain patented expensive drugs (like some eye drops I use that have a list price of nearly $300). Finally, if I need surgery or an expensive test like an MRI, again there is no charge at the time of service. So who has a better deal, me or the typical European? I expect you to say I am an exceptional case and you would be right but this video maker is equally an exception if he has no employer-provided insurance, no primary care doctor and has to go to an Emergency Room for most illnesses.

When he talked about work, he left out that salaries are much higher in the US. When he talked about health care, he left out the much shorter wait times in the US. (He kind of did the US a little dirty.)

I think all he learned in college was about frats and sports. Also Europeans pay for their healthcare through their much higher taxes. They pay, and then they don't have choices, and they have to wait for care. It's lame.

This guy just doesn't like driving. I don't know how long he's actually spent in America, but if he did any time at all, he'd notice that because America is so spread out, that public transportation doesn't make much sense. If you wanna get from one city to the next very quickly, you fly. It's as simple as that.

If everyone was the same, the world would be a very boring place. That's what makes travel so much fun, even in the US each state/region is unique. American's have bigger yards, front and back so they don't "hang out" as much in public areas. In big cities, it would look more like Europe. Regarding his point that his university experience was so expensive, he chose to go there. We have community colleges that are free in some states, and way less than a major university. In state schools are always going to be less expensive. It's a choice. Same goes for eating food, it's a choice to eat healthy or unhealthy.
@wilhelm-z4t
@wilhelm-z4t 23 сағат бұрын
Indeed. The whole point of foreign travel, I thought, was to experience different cultures and different ways of doing things. As far as cost of post-secondary education goes, a lot of the excess cost is attributable to "financial assistance" in the form of government loans. This is a classic example of something that supposedly was meant to make something more affordable having the exact opposite effect. The more students can "afford," the more schools feel free to charge. Another factor is schools mandating courses that basically are designed to inculcate leftist political views while subsidising the purveyors of such viewpoints at the same time. An ideal situation for them, of course. Costs could be reduced dramatically by eliminating departments that basically provide sinecures for such left-wing activists. Prospective students should also look for schools that provide the best value for their dollar. They need to perform cost-benefits analyses to determine whether post-secondary education is cost-effective for them in the first place. There's a lot of dead-wood at universities that's sucking the life out of the students.

America does all pharmaceutical research and development and as consumers we pay for it as Europe makes laws against charging what the pharmaceutical is actually worth, similar to how all regulation against technology comes from Europe even though they create exponentially less.

I am from the U.S. and have lived in Europe, and I will say Europe was beautiful; however, I was not impressed with their healthcare system at all and obtaining medication at an odd hour was an absolute nightmare. Nothing was open on a Sunday, which I understand because we had the same laws here at one time. Paying for a toilet is just plain stupid, let me crap myself while finding change. I did like the food but finding a regular plain bag of chips (crisps) was tedious because everything was paprika chips ( not a fan). I did not like the Austrians in Salzburg, they were very uptight and snooty, but Salzburg itself was very beautiful. Other Austrians I have met were sweet and warm. Switzerland has a massive drug problem and there were needle dispensaries on practically every light pole and if you are out late enough you will see the junkies on the streets doing the head nod against a pole. All of Belgium smelled like garbage and rotten fish on a hot summer day. It isn't always sunshine and sprinkles over there. Loved the dutch though, lovely sweet people. The French outside of Paris are also lovely, sweet people. I don't like how this young man has been brain washed to think the U.S. is so terrible, let him live in one of these countries for long amount of time and I guarantee he will change his tune., or maybe not he seems like a soy boy for sure.

To be fair most cities in Europe were destroyed coming out of WWII and had a chance to pretty much a clean sheet when designing new transportation, city layout, etc. Other than Hawaii and a couple of islands in Alaska the US didn't suffer from the devastation that Europe and Asia experienced. Yes President Eisenhower did sign the interstate highway bill. He saw the highway system that Germany had created and felt the US needed a unifying system. Also he's complaining about the cost of higher education and yes the prestigious a college/university the higher the cost. He could have gone to a state one in his home state of residence and the cost would be much lower. An example is State University of New York (SUNY) System: The SUNY system is also extensive, consisting of 64 campuses across New York State. Its four main university centers are the University at Albany, Binghamton University, University at Buffalo, and Stony Brook University. SUNY also includes comprehensive colleges, technology colleges, and community colleges. As a graduate of this system it was reasonably priced, good education, and value. If you want the Ivy league degree you're going to pay for it. Some of his examples are like apples to oranges. Happy he has had the opportunity and financial resources to be in Europe as long as has. It's a great unique experience.

Half of what he’s saying isn’t very accurate, gasoline is so cheap here. Gas prices now in Florida are $3.05 a gallon (3,5 liters) I’m about to drive 1100 miles next week one way, super affordable. Also he doesn’t use our train system even though it exists. He never touched on wage taxes for free education, so everyone pays irregardless if they go to higher education. Many Americans speaks a second language, he apparently was too lazy to try. Sounds to me he should re-educate himself in many areas. Gun ownership is enshrined in our bill of rights dating back to our founding ensuring our freedom from tyrannical government, he wouldn’t understand that fact. Another example is he doesn’t understand American culture, we do have culture, surely he’s obviously uncultured.
