That pilot (Topanov) was made a scape goat. Of course, the organizers (who the narrator said were in cahoots with the judges), were to blame for the most part. Corruption at its worst in this situation.

Ive unfortunately had the priveledge of meeting a pilot just before their last departure, as well as being told not to go help and just leave it to the emergency team that had been poorly stationed far away from the fire. Followed by a private group dinner to honor them with their friends and some family i will never sit by and watch something happen ever again

Something like this could never happen in the U.S. given the situation because even though U.S. military pilots are trained to follow orders, they are not trained to follow stupid orders. While a U.S. pilot might be willing to try something in combat that he knows is high risk\high reward, he will never do any maneuver he deem high risk that puts spectators in harm's way at an airshow. He is way more likely to be court martialed or disciplined for attempting a high risk maneuver over spectators than he would be for refusing to do the maneuver.

the pilots have the ultimate say if they think something's not safe and they're not going to do it they can't get in trouble for that same thing applies when you're a professional commercial pilot if something's unsafe you can't be fired from your job

I went to an air show in 1994 or 95 and it was crazy. Having the 180th Air Guard stationed near me I see fighter jets fly over a lot. But at the air show they were flying lower and was awesome.

There is footage online of the Lviv full crash. Needless to say its BEYOND nsfw. You see the jet clip multiple people. Including seeing a woman and her kid and baby stroller get clipped. As the camera pans back towards the aftermath, the mom is cut in half, the daughters body is... very much not looking like a body and the stroller is destroyed. Among other torn up bodies on the ground. Footage is still on KZbin I think. But because kids died, it never left my mind. >.
