In Scotland in the 1640s, the Covenanters rejected rule by bishops, often signing manifestos using their own blood. Some wore red cloth around their neck to signify their position, and were called rednecks by the Scottish ruling class to denote that they were the rebels in what came to be known as The Bishop's War that preceded the rise of Cromwell. Eventually, the term began to mean simply "Presbyterian", especially in communities along the Scottish border. Because of the large number of Scottish immigrants in the pre-revolutionary American South, some historians have suggested that this may be the origin of the term in the United States. (from Wikapedia) The term followed the Presbyterian Scots-Irish to America - In the Southern States the planter class also looked down the Scots-Irish who were mostly Presbyterian.

The other day my husband comes up from behind me and gave me a huge hug and kiss. He then tells me that I smell so good. It took me a minute to figure out what he was smelling. It was bacon grease. I had pickup up the last of the mornings bacon and with the grease on my fingers I had scratched my ear. So I guess my ear had some bacon grease on it and my husband thought I smelled good. I just thanked him and never mentioned the grease. This drove him crazy! He wanted to let me know it was the bacon grease that he was smelling. I waited until he nuzzle my ear and started to lick my ear and I told him to be careful cause I just scratched my ear and I'd just cleaned up cat puke. He kinda turned green. Then I let him know to stop trying to be cute about the bacon smell on me since I cooked a pound of bacon for breakfast! 😊
