Pizza in the US is VERY subjective, especially based on the crust. Another huge variance is the sauce. Some are really sweet while some are really savory. You just have to try each style to decide what you prefer.

As a pizza FYI.... "deep dish" pizzas are cooked in a pan coated with oil. This means the bottom of the pizza is FRIED. Regular pizzas are placed on a screen or pan coated with cornmeal, which BAKES the crust. So... fried bottom vs baked bottom. Buddies Pizza (Detroit) tastes like what many bars made and sold in the 70's. Given the right conditions, bar pizza tastes like the greatest food ever designed by man.

Trust me these places need to change nothing, he has his taste and we have our taste he doesn't like oregano because of memories someone may love me ve it because if memories and on and on. What makes New York Pizzas and Bagels extra special is the mineral content in NYC water gives it something no one can replicate. Same goes for Croissants, you can't replicate a French croissant because you aren't using the exact profile of French water. We had a bakery in Miami that used to import the dough ready made from France just to get us close. I live in North Carolina now coming from Miami and again same thing can't get a Miami pizza or bagel because of the tiny changes in water profiles which effects dough specifically. Also, it's American-Italians in the US who very definitely call pizza, pie and who can argue with that but you'd never catch them calling a California pizza a pie because that's just a pizza.

The beauty of NYC is that there is a NY Pizza for everyone. So if you ask New Yorkers what pizza is the best, you'll get every pizza place. You gotta ask specifics, type of crust, type of toppings, type of sauce. Also NO New York Pizza chef will ever admit that their pizza needs fixing, they'd tell ya to Fuhgeddaboudhim and Whaddaheknowboutpizza. The originals have been doing pizza their way for generations and it came from their dear granma's recipe book, no way they are changing.

Plenty of pizza dough in just the right proportion with toppings is the way New York Pizza style goes, and that is by far the best.!! ❤ I live in southern Virginia & eat New York, saw any day, but when I was in high school for a year or two, I didn’t go through a pan style pizza, phase for a while, but it didn’t last long. GARLIC BUTTER PIZZA THIN OR REGULAR CRUST. The guy doing this, KZbin video is right because you need the pizza to come together with the ingredients and yet if the sauce is too sweet or too tomato it’s not good. He almost gagged, biting into Chicago style, and I have to eat with a fork or I’ll choke ! If it is stuffed crust with cheese, it is good and I like it better but I still did it in a side of sauce. I’m American and I love garlic so I like a side dish of pizza sauce, but some Americans really like a side dish of ranch dressing with everything including pizza !! 😂 most Americans just love our ranch and I’m not excluded but not with my pizza! Sourdough? You guys in the UK don't seem to have Sourdough there.. Sourdough is just flour and water that is allowed to ferment over the course of a week as it gathers natural yeast in the air when you gradually add flour to your mix everyday. What this does, it that it gives the bread a slight tang to it. It's not really sour, but slightly tangy. We have Frisco Burgers here at the fast food chains Hardee's & Carl's Jr. and they're Sourdough, with Bacon, Tomato, Swiss Cheese, Mayo, and Burger Patties. The book "The Egg and I", a post WWII memoir the MC asks an older neighbor why she didn't just buy yeast, the older woman tells her yeast is too quick, if you get called away the bread is ruined. It was an epiphany for me. My bread was failing because it was proofing too long. That is when I switched to using a sourdough starter. And that is why restaurants that make pizza to order use a sourdough, . . . The dough may have to sit for hours.

Pizza is known as a pizza pie in a lot of places. That's an ole' skool term for it.

A Chicago pan pizza is upside down. The peperoni is on the bottom, cheese in the middle, the sause on top.

😂Deep dish is OK, but most Chicagoans regularly eat Chicago Tavern Style. It's a crisp thin crust covered in flavorful sauce, LOTS of cheese, and sausage. It's round, but it's cut in squares with something that looks like a curved blade machete. By the way, what ”critic" tries just one representative food in each city? Oh, wait. Just one place in Chicago and Detroit, but countless NYC choices.

The best pizza I ever had was from the Northlake Tavern in Seattle which is unfortunately now closed after 70 years and being voted the best pizza in Seattle ever since they started voting. For a big chain Pizza the Papa Murphy's take and bake chicken bacon ranch stuffed crust pizza is hard to beat.

Buddy’s in Detroit is unreal. Might look weird the first time but the taste of Detroit style is incredible

Yeah, I never really liked Josh. I tried watching several of his videos, and he 's always come off as super pretentious and way too up his own ass.

The correct answer is BUFFALO style. And maybe LaNovas

I make my pizza from scratch, from the crust to aging the cheese. I am serious about pizza. That said, . . . Chicago Style Pizza is terrible Pizza, but it is great "Italian" food. ???? That means if I make a Chicago Style Pizza, change it's name to anything Italian sounding, everyone will absolutely LOVE it. Calling it Pizza is the problem. Detroit Style, . . . The cheese on top, . . . I know Italians that make their Pizza this way and I too dabbled with this in the 1970's. What I discovered is it works when you are making a thicker crust, like the Detroit Style. The cheese prevents the toppings from turning into cinders from the longer bake time. How did Joe's only get a 7? Because my Pizza is better than Joe's. Joe's has to consistently deliver outstanding Pizza, day after day, year after year, to satisfy millions of people. Do you remember when Josh and Ollie were in New Orleans? Josh grabbed a bottle of hot sauce and shook it over something like he had seen a local do it. Neither he, nor Ollie could eat it with that much hot sauce on it. Think about it. If that Cajun restaurant prepared their food in a true Cajun Style it would limit their customers. So they serve food that is a 7.5 and put shakers and sauces on the tables, and at the counter so the locals can make that 7.5 a solid 9.

Pizza and the use of the word “pie” is pretty universally used and accepted in most of the US. Pizza pie. It’s all pizza.
