@@oneblacksun no. because realistically 10/10 would mean its better than anything in existance as you cant go higher than that. 5 if the middle of the scale, so it roughly means average, and average is good, nothing remarkable, but still basic good that youll still eat. thats very logical. if 7 is bad, wtf is 1.

Tip is usually for delivery or dine in and optional if carry out with a tip jar 20% is more then usual as people tip from 14-15% or more depending on the person a good pizza shouldn’t cost more then 15-20 bucks tbf people don’t need to tip for pickup too

Yeah, its no wonder American poverty is at an all time high... is not uncommon to see a $35 price tag for a pizza, if you include tax n tip, you end up paying $50 for something marginally better than a chain pie.

Hey Josh, love your videos. Last year I took my family on scotts pizza tour and our favorite was Linustri as well. Scott is amazing and knows everything about pizza and gave me a tour of many pizza shops around New York City and I also got to sit down and talk with the owner of Luigi's. He is the nicest man ever and I love his family's story, I am so glad you got to meet them both. When Scott took us to Lindustri he ordered us a Burrata pizza and it was the best thing ever. He showed me the inside and knew everyone very well. What amazed me about Lindustri was the air tight room that they use to keep the dough the right temperature while making it. In the end he took us to a Nutella pizza place which i told myself i was too full but ended up eating 3 slices and Scott let me take over for a bit to make the pizzas. Overall a 10/10 experience would try again, and I am glad you got to experience as well. Keep up the amazing work.

@@yuhyuh8171 I mean like you're not wrong. But I feel like he judges a lot of these without the context of the level of venue, intention. and what/who they intend to target. Like there are certain cars that are objectively worse if you measure the car on a horsepower per dollar scale. That's not a terribly relevant scale for most people though. Also usually the "best" pizza shop in any given city doesn't necessarily represent the breadth and width of what's actually available for that style of pizza even if it's the most talked about. Sure it's one way to do it. There's a lot more generally though, and limiting it to that is necessary to scope the video appropriately, but doesn't make for a good real comparison with any meaning. Top 5 at least would probably be needed to get some variation and see kind of what's available in that style. I get the need to limit it for time, it just feels... clickbaity? I think that's the best way to put it. Kind of veering into tik tok attention video territory.

The town doesnt have any route going out of the town, you ether hike there or get there by boat. We walked thorugh the city and stopped at a house. There was just a small sign saying Pizza, we locked at the place and it was the kitchen of someone just with a big window to the street. In the kitchen, was a woman probably around 70 or 80 years old. We orderd our pizza and we got the best thing i ever tasted. Don't do culinary school. Don't know where you're at in life or how old you are, but culinary wages don't offset the cost. You're starting off with debt you don't need. You'll learn a lot just entering the work force if you're intentional about the restaurants you're applying at and know which cuisines you want to learn first. Back of house is so volatile and pay is so poor to average that you'll move up quickly if you stay the course. If someone else is footing the bill and you don't have to pay it back, good for you -- go ahead. But I used to work as a cook and am constantly surrounded by culinary professionals who regret schooling and struggle to pay it back on a cook's wages.

It seems like people can do quite well getting into internships and that kind of thing through culinary school if they knuckle down. From what I understand, many high end restaurants and patissere won't even consider someone without professional culinary training too. Fair point about the debt load, that is significant and something to be weighed up. Seems like best of both worlds might be a bit of both, part time study and working in a kitchen alongside that. Whether that is viable I have no idea

@@micah1754 In the kitchen world, cooking school is seen as a path rich kids take, or those hoping to hop the line. Some misguided souls think they can get hired as chefs upon graduation. The skills translate, but none of the cadence or culture of the job does. You still start at the bottom of the bottom, as a prep or line cook at an inconsequential station, making pennies paying off debt. Even worse for you if you're subsidized by your parents once you're in the work force. What I'm telling them is that they can get straight to cooking without all of that debt. 6mos at a good restaurant, starting with prep work. Then go work at a great one. Or a a world class one.

Heading to Grace's on Grandin here in Roanoke Virginia after watching this video. I may be a bit partial as I worked in the kitchen for years, but GREAT crust! Don't waste your time. NYC pizza is hype which is showed down the throat of tourists. There is a trend of "gourmet" hipster joints that sell you decent pies at 2x the cost of what they should cost. NYC pizza is a cheap slice sold on a bus stop and should be priced as one. It's bs cheese made with restaurant Depot purchased flour. It's good when it's cheap. Try good pizza, it's at New Heaven CT. Original Pepe's hands down beats all NYC pizzerias.

When my friends and I learned that New Haven had their own style of pizza, we had to try it so took a ~9 hour road trip. We of course went to the big 3, and had room in the itinerary for one more; we had every intention of trying BAR. But after a series of inconveniences, we found ourselves back near Sally's, and had to ask ourselves the question "will we be more sad to have never tried BAR, or more sad to never have Sally's again?" We ended up going back to Sally's, but I have to say, I do sort of feel like that was a missed opportunity. The upshot though is that it started a tradition of annual pizza vacation, and we are on a mission to try every regional style of pizza!

The cheese and topping are above the sauce, where they belong, and they’re cooked in a deep dish pan that’s been seasoned for decades with the best caramelized cheese crust out there. (Admittedly, it might be close to Detroit style) That said, NY pizza is the shit, I’d probably go for that if i had both options readily available.

Since pizza style is a preference and you are going to all three cities, you might as well find the best of each style. Individually, which is the best Chicago, Detroit and then New York style pizza?

Pequods is worse than Lou’s. Deep dish is the Pizza Hut of pizza. Chicago thin crust is the best pizza on planet earth. Deep dish is designed to keep tourists away from the local joints with actual good pizza

Great to see Scott on here! Scott’s Pizza Tours is one of my favorite things to do in NY. Lots of good looking pizzas on here, great prep for a NYC pizza trip! Wish you would’ve liked Buddy’s in Detroit more, one of my favorites (but I grew up on it, so I’m biased).

I stopped watching after the Lou Malnati's diss. Like watching the channel, but he already had his bias. Last year, I had Buddy's for the first time (twice on two trips to the Detroit area for work). It was really good! I love Chicago deep dish too. So, just going to rack this one up to Joshua Weissman not being a great judge.

@@jrmarcus - I chalk that up to the fact that he ultimately wanted to do a certain region for his list. NYC always seems to win those battles. Pizza is good, and it’s the easiest place to find slices and they are thin, so you can try more of them. If you were doing a best slice in Chicago, you would only be able to try 4-5 places a day because you would be so full, ha ha (but I’d love to try it 😀).

@@tonyeatspizza maybe you can do a Chicago pizza video! It would certainly be less pejorative than this guy, and I already respect your opinion a ton more. He didn't even give Chicago style a fair chance. It's an entirely different category of pizza. Almost a completely different food.

As a Sicilian, I appreciate you for actually showing how much goes into making a great pizza. My family owned a restaurant for over 30 years before we had to close it down and man I’ve yet to find a slice of za that can make me feel how I used to eating my nano’s recepie. 🇮🇹

Ahhh, my Nana's recipe... I grew up on the homemade everything. As well as frying the dough in oil and using anything I feel like eating on it. Sweet, savory, like whatever.... We're Italians but grew up in Southern New Mexico. So we incorporated Mexican flair into our Italian staples.

Well, from what I’ve seen, you’ve missed one of my favorite types of pizzas: St Louis style! I haven’t been in St Louis for years, so I get my fix with Waldo’s in KC. Theirs isn’t usually cracker crispy, but the provel cheese is fantastic! Would really love if you tried it, and if you could show a good recipe to make it home. IMO’s pizza is the chain that’s often associated with the creation of St. Louis style pizza. They are primarily in St. Louis, but we have a couple in KC as well. Highly recommend this type of pizza! It is very different. Waldo Pizza includes mozzarella with the provel cheese and garlic butter in their crust.

Lou's is crispy on the outside, but the rest is like crumbly, stale Wonderbread. High gluten winter wheat makes a much better crust than all-purpose cake flour does. I'll make them at home in a century old cast iron pan, but with dough from my neighborhood pizza shop for a ridiculously good deep-dish.
