I´m German and lived in the UK for about 7 years. I just love the British people you guys are so genuine and lovely. I also think German and British people have a very similar sense of humor very dry, often dark, VERY sarcastic and often self-deprecating. EDIT: Sorry, but the UK is sad when it comes to bakeries. I mean you make good pies, pasties and crumpets but everything else on that front it´s just inferior to the German bakery. And don´t let me start on your bread. It´s not bread, it´s a wheat sponge that´s the nicest thing I can say. 😅

Gotta second that….every time I spend more than two weeks in the Anglosphere, I will start having a look around for a German bakery because this white ‚bread‘ is just clogging up my system… Never got so excited about an organic dark rye bread than after stying in Sydney for 5 weeks, coming back all excited to our couch surfing couple, … And they thought I was pulling their leg because it looked so dark they thought it was burnt. When I and the other German guy got quite orgasmic finally having ‚real‘ bread again, they had a real hard time scrubbing the disgust from their faces watching us ACTUALLY eat it…lol🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

I think British people are the masters of telling off or even insulting others masked by politeness. I admire that because we are a bit more confrontational at times. Once I did something really stupid and dangerous in traffic and a man behind me just said 'Clever girl!' in a very sombre tone. No insult, no shouting could have been more effective than that. Impressive. On the other hand if you say 'sorry' thousand times a day for no good reason it becomes meaningsless in my eyes. Humor: A lot of Germans have a very dry humor but the delivery is often so toned down that it flys under the radar. And a lot of us are very sarcastic. It depends on the region. I think people from the northern half of Germany and the northern half of the UK are pretty similar. I spend wonderful holidays in Manchester and the Peak District and felt at home. Another thing I really admire is the love for excentricity and originality in style, you won't find many excentric Germans out there. P.S.: There is a KZbin channel called 'Who is Mert?' by a Scottish guy who reacted to a lot of German humorous or satirical shows. He's really worth checking out, very intelligent man. His words about German humor really surprised me.

Now I am a British and a German citizen, ( two passports ). The army posted me to Germany in 1976, and after leaving the army in 80 I got married to my German girlfriend, and we are still together 43 years later. Personally I could not imagine going back to live in the UK, because the only thing that I really miss is the Northsea.

The question was what the Germans think about the British, not just the English, but also the Scottish, the Welsh and a small part of Ireland, and when it comes to the question of food, I spontaneously think of a few things that I like from Britain. For example: English breakfast, tea, especially the very thick black tea, beef Wellington, shepherd's pie or cottage pie, lamb in all variations. Very important Scotch or Irish whiskey, Guinness, possibly the only beer that can keep up with ours. Personally, I really like the orange jam. So there is some English cuisine that is very tasty, but of course Britain is not necessarily known for having the best cuisine. I think every country has its variations and some are always very tasty and some are not. My personal comment on what I as a German think of the British is: Basically we are the same, we also have a lot of historical similarities, after all your country has been ruled by a German noble family for centuries. In other words, we are actually brothers and it is really unfortunate that you left the EU, I hope you come back.

Hey Dwayne, I like your reactions a lot and be always happy to see a new video. Above all, I really appreciate that you adapt the volume of the videos shown to the volume of your voice. I often miss that in many reactions from other KZbinrs. But it would be very nice and helpful if you linked the videos shown in the description so that you can quickly watch the original without having to search first. Knödel is a dumpling, made from potatoes, sometimes flour or bread is added. It really depends on the recepy. Well the most important for me in Britain, was the lack of good bread, but LIDL had a German section with Schwarzbrot. You are so polite, that no one even corrected me, when I made something wrong, when I talked. If you ask in Germany how to get to the train station, and you mix up the question, the Germans are likely to correct the question first and than answer the question. Not in the UK. And I love the different English dialects. The English in German is "so good", as we learn English at least from 5th grade on to 10th grade as a main subject, like German or maths. And we start with British English and switch to American English some years later. And today many employees come in contact with the English language very often. What is strange: You stick to some traditions, when even the reason disappeared. When I was in Lincoln for one semester, I played hockey at the university and Lincoln Roses and the season started in October. In December different matches had been cancled, because of "frozen pitch". I explained, in Germany we have an indoor and an outdoor season in hockey. UK: "Oh, you play indoor in the Summer and outdoor in the Winter?" Me: "No, we play outdoor in the Summer and indoor in the Winter." UK: "Oh, that makes sense!" Me: "Why don't you play outdoor in the Summer?" UK: "Oh, the pitches are traditionally occupied by Cricket." Me: "But Cricket is played on natural grass and hockey on artifical floor, isn't it?" UK: "Yes!" Me: "So you don't even get in each other's way anymore." UK: "But it's tradition!"

Many Germans love british humour and in the post-Thatcher era the mutual image has improved significantly. English rock and pop music is also popular. And yes, when I watched the last recording of The Last Night Of The Proms, I was struck again by how strangely some people dress. Many of my friends are enthusiastic about the international food in London, but this is the first time I've heard a German say that the english food is better. I agree with @Kelsea-2002, 1966 has found its way into our DNA. Because of Brexit, british politicians don't have such a good reputation.

That's probably a difficult one. Of course you find fancy dresses in Germany too but you wouldn't find the type of fancy dresses people wear at Ascot. And no we don't think you are all weird. It's more of a special kind of british weirdness Germans like. We call it "schrullig" or "kauzig" meaning quirky or cranky but in a loveable way. That why we like actors like Mr. Bean, Monty Python, Margaret Rutherford or even Freddie Frinton in the (in)famous "Dinner For One" so much.

Yes, yes, we Germans and our bread. 400 different types of bread and 70 different types of rolls. For us, English bread is only good for toasting. The island experiences the greatest possible shock. A study shows that around every second English person is of German origin. The excitement stems from the findings of a London research group. "Shock! Horror!”, it dawns on the British: “We are Germanized”. The news that around half of all Britons are of German descent ruined breakfast for the islanders. “It’s,” read the Daily Mail, “as if, after losing two world wars and a soccer World Cup, the Germans are having the last laugh.” The UCL researchers had discovered a section of the Y chromosome that is typical of northern German men. In Great Britain, this chromosome is rarely found in the so-called Celtic fringe - Scotland, Wales and Cornwall. But it happens so often in the rest of the country that two things can be said: around half of all Britons have Germanic ancestors. The Anglo-Saxon invasion was not that large in numbers. Between 100,000 and 200,000 Anglo-Saxons arrived over three centuries. The local population was around two million people. Why weren't the newcomers, who represented at best ten percent of the population, absorbed into the gene pool? The reason was the social superiority of immigrants. “The Anglo-Saxon elite,” says Professor Mark Thomas of UCL, “established themselves quickly by having more children who survived to adulthood, thanks to their military power and economic opportunities. A law from the 7th century, the “Law of Ine”, makes the social position of the invaders clear. According to this, five times more blood money had to be paid for the killing of an Anglo-Saxon than for the killing of a Celt. The immigrants also introduced a strict, apartheid-like system that banned marriage to native Britons. The privileged ruling class prevented blood mixing and at the same time was able to father and raise more children. Over the centuries this led to a “culturally and genetically Germanized country”,

Knödel are Dumplings, and they are made from potato flour. You can make them by your own or get a prepared product. The last ones have this paper (or plastic?) wrapping surround it for cooking. Afterwards you take it off. They taste good with red cabbage and roast meat, for example. Maybe you know them...(?) You can also make bread dumplings. These don't taste as delicate, but rather heartier.

Ulm has about 130 k inhabitants - that´s not so small. It´s one of those untrue stereotypes, that Germans are rude. In fact, we are much more polite than your average Brit! Please, Thank you, Good Morning or Good day - I heard that more often in Germany than in Britain. We are certainly more direct, but that means coming to the point, not beasting about the bush, but it does not mean being rude and impolite.

😂 I'm laughing so much right now... 😂 the british lobsters on the beach towels... i have seen that personally. Hello? Ever heard of skin cmcer? And I'm right next to that with my fair skin and cream with factor 40 against the sun... 🙈 And yes, british Breakfast, it's horrible, had it once, since then i always booked without breakfast and hit the next Tesco to find eadable stuff... but seriously, what is it with you and white breads? I'm always walking a pretty thin line with the food, cause i actually shouldn't eat that much wheat stuff, why is there no bread made from other things? same as the sausages 🙈 yeah, i think i had too much german sausages to like yours 😂 but i have to admit, i fell absolutely in love with shortbread, when i staid a week in Edinburgh... and me and all my friends where glad that there are so many different foods from other cultures available.... and back to Tesco: who the hell designed those self checkout machines? We were arguing with that thing and finally gave up and looked for a human to cash us out. If you have a lot of items those machines are just useless... on the other side: the politeness is great, especially if you start "sorrry, stupid lost tourist here, can you help me...?" most laugh and i've always been helped very nicely, even by busdrivers who waved at me at the right stops, so i didn't miss it. Even had nice conversations in German, cause everybody needs to try and remember there school German, if they find out where I'm from (i vividly remember a very fun elevator ride in London, where a gentleman was confused, cause he first thought i was a native english speaker, he just couldn't pinpoint my accent and then he proceded talking in German and was very happy, when we complimented him that he even got the german grammar right) :) And the people in pubs are sooo welcoming, it's great, also i always think a bit less beer wouldn't be bad for them 😉😂 (I don't drink alcohol at all, so i can really see the difference after one or four beers 😉) What i don't get is your politics. Have some friends in England, Scottland and Wales, so I do hear about stuff more often and sooo often i can't understand how some politicans can be voted in again and again, or get away with so much stuff without having to give up their position. And seriously, Brexit? How could so many people fall for the lies from the Brexiters??? 🙈 But what i absolutely love is your different dialects, or just accents, depending from where you come from. I watch quiet a bit stuff of british telly in english and by now I try to remember where the people are from. I'm still not sure, where i heard your accent before, but when i saw your first video, i was sure immediately that you are from the UK. And the last thing i have to say, that i love: Doctor Who! A more brillant idea for a scifi character just doesn't exist. 😁 Just the idea about the regenerating main charcter, but also the mix between funny, mysterious, teaching, creepy... oh, i love it. And I'm still laughing about some of the absurdedness from the last couple of episodes... 😁 So yeah, I think too, that we are pretty similar in a lot of things and different in others, but in a way, that we can really fit together, if we want to. :)

The only thing which makes me a little sad as a German is that even the BBC - known as a very serious broadcaster - still doesn't give up spreading stereotypes when it comes to Germany. They often claim that the Germans don't have the conciousness for their history or we do not care about other nations in Europe. That is absolutely not the case. We are surrounded by 9 other countries and do NOT perceive ourselves as such big and important or even threatening as you do - as a the winner of the war - seem to see us. The opposite is the case. I think it has a lot to do with psychological projection. Because we are much more similar than British people might think or feel comfortable with, we are the perfect mirror for your own national shadows and problems, let's say alcohol in lower class society or national isolation (I name these examples because you can watch videos from British media, spotting those issues in Germany in an exaggerating manner that simply doesn't reflect the truth). We like the British and your country, the language, the fact that you refuse to drive on the right side of the road ;-), we adore your pop and music culture (The Beatles, David Bowie, Elton John, Kate Bush all are "weird" and excentric geniuses somehow, aren't they?). Some Germans might also be jealous that you still have preserved monarchy, especially since we are more and more ruled by jerks here, lacking any capabilities and common sense... ;oD

Unfortunately, this means they overdo it and risk skin cancer. 🤔 (Could be the reason.....) Back in the 1980s as a child, every year my mother would watch _The Last Night of the Proms_ with me on German TV. That and Monty Python's Flying Circus (which German _Das Dritte_ channels ran in English with British subtitles, unusually since normally everything on German TV is dubbed) was my first exposure to British eccentricity. Also, as Henry Hemming, the author of "In Search of the English Eccentric" lamented, British culture in the modern UK is no longer as tolerant towards eccentricity and its own famous eccentrics and other social outsiders as it used to be.

I can't think of an encounter that was unpleasant whether here nor in England. One thing I absolutely love about the Brits is the understatement. I think it depends on the rules of a drinking contest. If the task is speed drinking (a set amount of pints in a set amount of time) no-one but maybe a Russian will beat a Brit. If, on the other hand, the task is to take in as much alcohol as you can from early evening to early morning, no-one with again the possible exception of a Russian will beat a German.

When it comes to football, this tradition in Derbyshire comes to mind after I saw it. This is such a stereotype-proof point that I've unfortunately taken on a bit. This football fanaticism and sometimes really live it out. This also happens here in Germany. Therefore, this is apparently just a media image that I have created of British people. Because when I think about it, when there's a football game going on in my city and there are certain opposing teams, they go crazy here. The main station is full of federal border guards, the city has a massive police presence with helicopters on all routes to the stadium hours before and after. I get annoyed every time I mess up when a game is coming up, especially when the "bad" opposing teams come. Because then you simply don't want to be out and about in those areas in the city. In general, I don't think there's much of a difference between Germans and Brits!

Oh, I forgot about the drinking thing... The attitude towards alcohol or the drinking culture is a major difference between our peoples. And I think it has something to do with the lack of a general closing time or curfew in Germany. Imho Brits drink to get plastered as fast as possible, German don't. We have a whole night to drink there is no need for a rush. So for a German drinking with Brits can be a very dissapointing experience because as a German you tend to drink in a slower pace and you might still be in your 'warming-up phase' whereas the Brits you're with are already completely drunk and raucous. Next thing is they need to go home while you are still relatively sober. Hard to tell who wins in the end intakewise...

In my opinion, the question has been misphrased. While the Scots, the Welsh and the Irish have a better reputation in Germany, the judgement of the English is often quite bad. Therefore, he should have clarified the question of which people of the British are actually meant. Sorry England, but the stolen World Cup title from Wembley in 1966 is not forgotten yet!

German humor is part slapstick-y, but mostly satire -- which is kind of hard to translate and/or to relate to, especially when it's political. If you're unfamiliar with the background, you won't get the joke or punchline.

In the UK you'll find the highest amount of convertible cars per capita. Dear Brits, i love your optimism!😊 I couldn't find anything like cornish pasties in any german bakery. It's a pity. And i'd rather drink a british ale or cider than a german pils. Yeah, crucify me...😅

As a German, I don't think our English is really good. I'm in my fifties and studied English at school for eight years. But when I left school and had to use my English alone for business purposes at a trade fair for the first time, I realized that I can't speak English. It was a disaster. So I learned English for my job, which was speaking and listening. And so I improved my English. Over the last 10 years or so I have also consumed many British and US films, series and KZbin videos like yours in English. This also helped me a lot in improving my skills. Nowadays it happens to me occasionally that I dream in English when I have had to speak or read a lot of English during the day. The most important thing I learned over time was that nothing bad would happen if I used the wrong word or my grammar was wrong. From this I learned that you don't have to be afraid of making mistakes, because native English speakers still understand you and will correct you if you say something wrong. This is how you should do it with your German skills. Just try speaking in German. And if you're in Germany, you don't have to worry. Someone will always understand you.

"The lack of humor" .. you missed the part where he followed with "I think they are almost as fun as the germans are". For me that was an excellent point, if you think germans have no humor and don't understand their dry typ of sarcasm, then you maybe also don't understand the brits. About the "lobster" thing, yeah i even remember when i was on Mallorca with my parents maybe 45 years ago, and at the beach beneath us was a british couple and the guy sat ther straight formed like an "L" for the whole day and of course left as a lobster. Unbelievable 😄👍 But also the locals in general liked the germans way more than the brits.

Haggis is great. I've been to Scotland for 6 weeks and south England 2 weeks on working holiday. I ate mainly with my 4 different guest families. All were organic hobby farmers, so it was certainly healthy food. One of them couldn't cook and it was all very bland and overcooked. The other 3 cooked just average fresh vegetarian organic meals. Probably not much different from the same kind of meals on a German organic farm. I strongly disagree that we don't have humor. It's just not the juvenile inane humor like Jackass. It's more dark and dry. It probably would offend a lot of younger Americans.

When I was living in Uk for 20 years ago. I found it strange, that Brits had not the feeling to be a part of Europe. They are Brits. Strange was that they "lost" my whole folder/case twice on the Jobcentre and council, so I had to do the procedure again and again. Strange was the Saturday night out, girls was dressing like cheap hookers and behave like this, Binge drinking everywhere until they faith. Strange was to pay local tax. In Germany you pay one Tax and thats it, in UK you pay the council area where you live extra. Strange was, that I realy dont understand sometimes a word, because of the "learnd" English and the "spoken" English. It was difficult to sometimes follow social customs and find it funny. I often ask my friends, why is it funny now... That was the hardest thing.

Most foreigners are put off by our food. We have weird names for it, and it doesn't appeal to them. I get it as a Brit I can't stand crumpets. But I think out sense of humor is great, we are not afraid to make fun.of ourselves. We have some great comedies. I think the Germans and the British are very similar in a lot of ways.

No that Guy didn't get it. British Dry Humor is great. Almost like in Austria. What about a Drink off about Germany, England AND Austria. Hello ? Anyways. What is wrong in looking put togher ? Fancy is cool. I've just tried British Breakfast (but at evening cause it's more like a Dinner for me) I never thought I would love Baked Beans in that Combination. I also tried to make some Scones (no Clotted Cream here so it's Mascarpone and whipped cream) but they were too flat. Maybe my Mum, my Son and me will visit London at Easter Holiday. ❤🇬🇧🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿❤👑🫖☕️🫶🏻 There is too much i want to see over there. Like Mr. Hiddleston and Mr. Cumberbatch ...by the Way is there something for Sherlock Holmes Fans ? Were is it possible to shop fancy but affordable Clothes beside the Tourists Hotspots..some not so touristy Spots, cool Flea Markets Vintage Stuff? Amy Recommendations. Can Woman wear Kilts ? I want one. And hey..i am just invading you to take one of your finest Gents. Hehehe. 😋 Like Ed Sheeran said...but she fell in love with an english men...okay. Where do i sign ? You forgot Scones...we don't have that here. They all (Germany,Austria,Finns,..) drink Coffee but i prefer Tea, Darling !

Who does strange(er)? ... depends on what the situation is. Football fanaticism in Germany is crazy. It's even crazier in Britain. Whereas German humour seems to be pretty different from many other countries, so I guess there, we are strange. These two are just examples that you can find "strange" in both countries.

There are 3200 different „bread specialties" (pastries) in Germany. We are very proud of our bread. 😉 What I love about the Brits is their accents. (Many dialects - from all 4 countries , but also from different regions and also their sociolects sound cool somehow). Only posh children make me laugh every time. 😂 And their comedians are really funny. ❤ Oh and they have Jane Austen. ❤❤❤

Weird? Yeah i got one: PUDDING..sorry but are you out of your Mind ? For us it means something fluid..sweet Joghurt... Vanilla,Choclate Pudding. Made of milk, you know,it's in the fridge section. Your Pudding we could say is a Früchtebrot a Stollen (Christmas) a Fruit bread but not sour dough, more like a cake. .Kuchen not Torte.Yeah there is a difference. Torte is something with cream in it. It is mostly higher. A layer of Marmelade...if its a Sacher Torte. Second: funny Dish Names..like that Toads in a Hole....Who the invented such Names ? For Dishes. No thanks..Ni Toads for me. 😂 Your Descriptions or Terms for a Thing...is weird. When you translate it it makes no Sense. Until you find out what it is and that it is NOT made out of TOADS.
