Not sure if this was mentioned as I'm now just watching your video but you were confused why there was not a back on the lockers the reason for that is because that is a whole separate room were the trainers have access to gather up all of the equipment or certain accessories that each player needs before each game or practice that whole room would be locked then the only way would be that player to have access to his locker and then all of his belongings would be in there

@ShaneAdams-y4kАй бұрын
This is fall camp. The actual school year hasn’t started yet. So they are at the football facility most of the day. When classes start they will go to classes. In order to be eligible to play they need to take a minimum number of classes and maintain a minimum grade point average. The lockers have no backs on them because there are people that wash their clothes and put them in the locker for them.
@jimbarber9638Ай бұрын
There is no back to the lockers because the back opens into the uniform supply room where players uniforms are provided, laundered, and placed into the individual players locker. It's not their main locker, but a convenient way to distribute the right uniforms to the players.

Yes they are regular students so they do regular classes as well. They have to maintain a certain GPA to be allowed to play. They have their own cafeteria when practicing and working out. University athletes are required to take a full course of study. And they must pass to stay eligible to play. Therefore, there are tutors paid by the athletic department to make sure that the athletes stay successful in their studies. Not all college athletes need this, but it is available to those that do. These athletes are treated well, and they are provided with what they need to succeed. Team wins equate to big dollars to the university, so, money well spent.

I think the reason college football is so popular here in America is pretty simple. The NFL scouts college teams for players. So college football players have 4 years to impress one of the NFL teams enough to get signed by someone. As for the college's themselves, the more players you have make it to the NFL, the more talented players will want to play at your school.

My guess for the open-backed lockers are for cleaning and laundry. You noticed that after a workout, they put their shirts in one chute, shorts in another. Big programs like Oklahoma have folks who do the laundry. It's easier for them to have an open back to the lockers so the clean clothes can be put in their locker, but only retrieved through the front. Kind of like mail post office boxes. Open in the back so they can put in your mail, but locked in the front so only you can retrieve it.

This is the University of Oklahoma Sooners football team. I've been to several OU home football games. It's crazy. They have fireworks go off every time they get a touchdown. Once shrapnel from the fireworks rained down on us!!! I attnded the games i went to with a friend who was an OU football player in the early 70s. He is a "letterman" and gets season tickets every year. They have a letterman's meal before the game. There is a HUGE rivalry every fall between the University of Oklahoma and the University of Texas. The game is always played in Dallas and is called the "Red River Shootout." It's always played during the Texas State Fair. Oh, and once you are a letterman you are a lifetime member. When you are in your 70s or 80s you will still have all the benefits of being a letterman. My friend that is a letterman fro the early 70s had a stroke and was having serious problems recovering. The coach from his time in foitball CALLED HIM and got him into a stroke rehabilitation program!!! It had been 50 years since he played football!!! Anytime someone needs a new job, career... they will get the former player a job!

In my day, we called Fall camp: 2-a-days (aka hell weeks). Of course I never played D1 ball, only HS. Our camp was in the late summer and we started the day with an early morning practice, broke for lunch around 11, returned at 1PM for meetings and then the late afternoon practice. It was hell because it was hot. We got all the free tap water we wanted too. They had this hurdle that they had attached a PVC pipe to, with holes into it and it was fed by a garden hose. We called it the trough. You drink your fill and rinse off your head before having to put your helmet back on. It was hard work but the camaraderie that you built with your teammates was incredible. I'm still friends with a lot of those guys today. During the season, practice was a lot lighter. Saturday was game film and calisthenics, Sunday was off, Monday was scout films and helmets and shoulder pads, Tuesday and Wednesday were full pads, Thursday was helmets and shoulder pads with a walkthrough, and Friday was the greatest day, it was game day!

But they will also provide tutors and help.

Players are students. At this level of play (Division I), football (or sometimes basketball) brings in the money to fund a lot of the other university programs. Broadcast companies pay HUGE amounts of money to the schools. It pays for the schools to invest in the training of a championship-level team. Competition is fierce for schools to get prime broadcast spots. You have to have a team that consistently wins and dominates. Otherwise, the public won't watch and the broadcasters will go somewhere else.

If some one has not cleared up the locker spaces that you are confused about. This is where they put the worked out items or uniform items that the team house keeping/gear managers take care of. Uniforms , towels, workout clothes, etc. Back behind there is not a mirror. That is the area that the house house keeping/gear managers sort and put the items into the cubbies for each team member. Like an old style hotel mail system. This way they can keep it all sorted and make sure that all the team members has what they need. Many of the items are numbered or have the player name on them so they have to go in a specific cubby. There are 5 stages to a football players year. Spring camp (March to May,) summer camp (June -July), fall camp (August), the season August - December), Play oofs if the make it (December - January), off time January - March). Yes the players have classes for a major, but a modified schedule. Sports Medicine is a huge industry in the US. The stuff is not free, it is part of their scholarship to play for the school. Boosters and sponsors of the school give money for this. This is University of Oklahoma, one of the largest college football programs in the country. They have all the best stuff un-like where I went to school. The school cares about wins and how they look. This is the players whole life.

Think of the no back lockers as their mail boxes where they get their clean clothes from the equipment manager. Their main locker is the one with the shoe racks.

This is the beginning of the season, two a day practices. Basically they get to the school a few weeks early to get ready for the season. During this time it’s all football all day, and sleep. Then u get classes and regular practice.

What the hell did you learn, Lewis? It's like you've never heard of anything!

Everybody should see the University of North Dakota hockey locker rooms and the equipment they have.

Yes, they take classes, but the "12:00 AM Lunch Time" makes you wonder how much they pay attention in other classes.

There are several schools who have stadiums that fit 90,000 to 100,000 people. The state I live in is mainly known for basketball with two of the most highly attended basketball programs in the country with arenas that hold over 20,000 each. Even with the emphasis and love for basketball each of the two schools also have stadiums that hold 61,000 for football. Millions of people watch several games every weekend with games being played on ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, ABC, NBC, CBS, FoxSports, et al.

College athletics facilities, specifically football and basketball at top tier universities are pro level facilities a lot of the times.

The reason for the no back on the lockers is because they have a laundry chute on the side and each players clothes are wash and put back in the middle section. Think how P.O. Boxes at the post office are setup.

6:59 Football usually gets priority, but the whole athletic department usually uses that facility as sports rotate in and out of season. Some schools--especially up and down the east coast--are known for being basketball powerhouses, and will instead prioritize their basketball programs (both genders) with this level of treatment.

Oklahoma's stadium capacity is 80,126. That makes it the 15th largest college stadium. It is actually kind of small for the SEC (their division) in which 5 schools have stadiums over 100,000.

at my college which has as big if not bigger focus on college football, than OU, any student with a meal plan could go to the athlete dining hall but you had to make a reservation unlike every other dining hall because the food was so much better(therefore more popular)

You can tell how well the football program and school is doing by all the technology they have for the players and about their locker area you see their pic and number. Some school just have their jerseys on top and nothing customized. What he doesn’t show are the cleaners that take their dirty clothes, wash them, and put them back. He didn’t show all the water boys refilling the ice box for the drink stations through out. There’s also a cleaning crew there vacuuming and wiping everything down to keep dried sweat free on everything. They’re dumping the trash and keeping the showers/toilets clean. There’s all these little people you don’t see that keep the place spotless. They are kept out of the way of the players. LoL. The unseen heroes. 😂

Fall camp is when h practice in the fall before the regular season starts. It’s practice for almost 2 months. Just like spring training after the season.

Schools in the Power 4 conferences (and some of those in the G5/G6 conferences) have state of the art facilities for their football, basketball, and baseball programs.

School first, football second. That's what they will tell you. When one of them graduates ask him to spell his name.

You have to realize College players are a stepping stone to Pro Football in the NFL…they get Scholarships, Alumni donate to football, baseball, basketball and that is both mens and womens sports in college. Some, aside from scholarships, get extra such as living expenses..anything that isn’t covered by scholarships. It is a big business in college for the college too…stadiums, equipment, etc are often funded by former alumni..or businesses who advertise at the games. Does that help you understand it all, here in-the US.

My grandson plays for a Big 10 team. He takes college courses in the afternoon and must maintain certain grades. He also takes college courses all year long, NCAA requires that as long as they are in student housing they must take college courses. He’s only home about 2 weeks a year.
