Sweden and Finland joined NATO because of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, not the other way around.
@AltCutTV7 ай бұрын
Need to check with article 42.2 of the EU. Talk and preparation preceded the invasion, not actually joining anything. If that was the case Russia sure is taking its sweet time getting back into Finland. Semi-attached to that, Finland have also been in NATO Light (PFP) since early nineties. Right about when USSR caved. Which was probably sensible, since there is usually no more uncertain time than the power vacuum of a former one party system. Another thing not mentioned in the video is that Finland too had pretty much the same former neutrality and mainly defensive build-up as Sweden. The only difference is more cooperation with NATO in general, and US in particular. They are not exactly buying the very planes that would have been perfectly suited to Finnish infrastructure almost as well as the Swedish after all. ;) Makes one wonder for how long Sweden will be able to maintain the SAAB planes as part of it all though..

Russia have tried Sweden's defenses several times. Just last week, a SU-24 flew 5km in over Gotland but was chased away by two JAS39. The U137 sub incident on the 27th of October 1981 (lasted until November 5th 1981) was a so called "faulty navigation" however, that is easily contradicted since they managed to evade several obstacles without any problems (navigating that far into the Swedish archipelago isn't easy and demand skill, the only "faulty navigation here was the last 10-20 meters before they beached). The reason they even tried was to pickup a Spetznaz group that had been spying in a new anti-submarine weapon (Torped 42) exercises that was took place outside to the Swedish Naval base in Karlskrona. I was down there myself, doing SIGINT so we got aware that if Swedish Special Forces tried to take the sub by force, the crew were ordered to blow it up. We another friend of mine from the Swedish Military Research institute, was that they had four nuclear torpedoes with a yield comparable to 3 Nagasaki nukes. According to the political officer onboard (he wrote a book about the incident), the nuke's were armed and would have detonated if Sweden tried to take the sub. I have attached a link to the incident description from the Swedish Navel defense forces. The JAS Gripen is considered a 4th generation fighter jet, but it can perform all military aviation duties depending on loadout. The acronym "JAS" stands for "Jakt", "Attack" and "Spaning" in Swedish, which translated to English would be roughly "Fighter/Interceptor", "Striker/Bomber" and "Reconnaissence".

Gripen C, E are both regarded more advanced than 4:th generation though... but not full 5:th generation. There is no NATO membership payment. The membership doesnt cost anything in that regard. What there is is an obligation to invest in your own military forces and your civilian and military infrastructure. As a member you agree to spend at least 2% of your GDP on your military forces and to make sure that your infrastructure is up to date and integrated with the rest of the alliance to be able to facillitate the logistics needed in the case of a war. No more, no less As for NATOs expansion eastward, NATO was pretty passive. What happened was that when the wall came down a lot of former USSR members and satelite states came banging at the door in fear of what Russia might do in the future. They had had russian tanks in the streets in the past and didnt want to have them back in the future. And Russia eventually proved them right. First in Georgia in 2008 and then in Ukraine in 2014

The whole region would need billions of € poured into it to restore it to the level of the rest of the country. We simply can't afford that. No, the 2% is not a membership fee to NATO. It is how much each member is recommended to invest in their own military. "NATO expansion" is the excuse, not the reason of Russia's invasion. Counties applies to become members, if they want, and all of the current members have to accept the application. Having a current land dispute, as Ukraine had since 2014 made them not able to become members even if they and all the current member wanted it. So the "expansion" was already a non-issue. That talk about NATO expansionism is on flat-earther level. As mentioned in a former post, the 1981 incident was not just a sub in Swedish water, but one that ran aground deep inside. The Soviet Union sent a "rescue fleet" and it was minutes from it leading to a shootout between the Soviet Union and Sweden. When they noticed Sweden wouldn't just fold, they didn't cross the sea border and diplomacy resumed, leading to Sweden releasing the sub back to the Soviets. The Baltic states were a weak point of NATO before Finland and Sweden joined. If Russia would take Gotland, they would be able to control the Baltic and the rest of NATO would have had a hard time helping the Baltic states. Putin have more than once expressed a want to regain what once was part of the Russian empire, and besides Ukraine and the Baltic states, also included Finland. Any land winnings made by Russia in a peace settlement will be a signal they can expand. So any compromise, unless wanting further wars with Russia or other similar countries makes unfortunately to only possible compromise if Russia should have to pay any reparations or not after they are kicked out of Ukraine.

All you need to know about J39's is that in NATO's military simulations over Alaska a couple of years ago, a single J39 with Meteor missiles kept taking out 5 American F16's with latest upgrades in simulated realistic scenarios in both beyond visual range fighting and in dogfighting. Over and over again, it wasn't taken out once despite being in a 1 vs 5. Now the F16 isn't the best plane out there, but it's still proof of how good the J39 is to be able to dominate in a 1 vs 5 scenario, as that's what it would have to do against much more numerous fighter jets from Russia.

The reason Russia would invade Sweden is that our location and ownership of the majority of the Baltic Sea means that we have one of the best positions for invading Europe. If Russia invaded Sweden, it would have direct access by water to Denmark, Norway, Finland, Poland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Germany etc. The Swedish military has been talking about this for years (if you want to find a more direct source for it). An estimation from a couple of years ago estimated that Russia would be able to overtake Sweden in 14 hours, since we have one of the smallest populations in Europe (10.5 million people so the equivalent of the population of Moscow) but we're the fifth largest country in Europe by landmass. It's also been made increasingly clear that other countries (especially the US) wouldn't help with boots on the ground, which would be needed if they invaded, so when they invaded Ukraine we decided to give up our neutrality to protect ourselves and everyone else. I mean don't get it twisted, we would've whooped them for as long as possible, but technically speaking they have enough people (and are a communist country that can call in their people to battle whether the people want it or not), that with patience (and their tendency to be willing to sacrifice their population like sheep for slaughter) they could've just erased our population from the face of the planet. Sounds a bit dramatic, but you know what I mean.

Russian submarines swimming around in our waters happened multiple times. The time they talked about in the video is probably not the incident you’re thinking about. Basically, the instance in the video probably refers an incident where a Soviet submarine almost caused a war by getting stranded in Blekinge. Apparently, one of the personel on board almost shot a Swedish soldier. The incident you’re heard of is probably the one that made the news in 2014, when everyone raised a fuss about a Russian sub snooping around in Stockholm harbour, which definately controbuted to the state of raised military alert and national awareness eventually culminating in our NATO membership.

One thing he missed is that the gripen can carry the meteor missiles. Atm only 3(maybe F35 soon? so 4) airplanes in the world can carry it, and its max range is 200km. Its hailed as the pinnacle air-to-air missile and it travels at mach 4. And the thing you mentioned about the wing tips, thats where they put modular EW pods. And the gripens EW(electronic warfare) suite is among the best in the world. Also, the reason contries are scared of russia attacking IS just because of the reason they have nukes, since they can just scare people around with the nuke card and then start attacking while holding that over the country all the time. Thats what they are doing with ukraine atm, they are constantly threatening with nukes if anyone actually helps ukraine, thats why countries are sending them just the tools(tanks/planes/ammo etc) and not military troops.
@znail46757 ай бұрын
Meteor doesn't travel at Mach 4, actually it's the other way around as it's main advantage is that it's slower the other missiles, but that slower speed translates to longer range. Most other missiles accelerates to max speed then start to rapidly lose that speed from drag. Meteors uses a longer burn engine instead.
@Ormathon7 ай бұрын

What Russia primarily wants in Sweden is maritime dominance over the Baltic Sea and Sweden's islands. Russia has a very large military presence in Kallinigrad, it is mainly from here that they threaten Sweden. When it comes to the Swedish defense, our equipment is much better than the Russians', but Putin has more of everything. When it comes to Estonia, the USA would start a nuclear war over Estonia, no, hardly, both Estonia and Russia know this. One reason Swedes are so for Ukraine is because we know that if Russia succeeds in Ukraine, he will start to look to other countries, Russia has already started to question the maritime borders in the Baltic Sea and wanted to expand its territory. Even before NATO, Sweden and Finland had military cooperation. A little simplified, you can say that Sweden would put more focus on aviation and naval defense, while Finland would put more focus on infantry. When it comes to Ukraine, you have a bit of a fault or a very Putin way of looking at why they were attacked. There had been many more attacks before on many countries if they had not been part of NATO, if they were not, like Belarus, i.e. a vassal state of Russia. None of the countries in Eastern Europe would probably have been able to become Western countries if they had not joined NATO.
