I remember seeing those on TV for the first time and wondering why we had the old p.o.s towed artillery haha. As Marines we were used to getting second hand gear but the Archer is leaps and bounds ahead in technology. I was impressed and a little pissed at our own government LOL. It was like "why aren't we buying these or at least building something similar?" In Iraq in 03 when our Motor T trucks got hit, some of our artillery got left behind initially. Keep in mind it was the invasion, so we were constantly moving the 1st month.

Had 2 of them go past my house a year or so ago. Was standing near a window when this incredible loud sound reverberated through the entire neighborhood. Managed to see them make a sharp turn and head toward the coast at very high speed. Was most likely on their way to intercept Russian jets. Read about an operation done by the Swedish Airforce later, in the paper, that coincided with the date of my sighting, so most likely was that sortie. I remember thinking "Yeah boys, go get 'em" as the planes flew off.

Important to mention that if the war comes, everyone in the Swedish society has to contribute in one way or another. They'll put you in a role they'll see fit, and you can't avoid this duty. It's part of our total defense and social contract with the government. So we could most likely call up way more soldiers(it takes time to train tho) and people in different positions if the war came.

Our "Amphibious Corps" is indeed 'marines' equivalent - we have USMC and Royal Marines here training with them fairly often and most video of the training is archipelago or beach landings with the CB90's! Regarding video recommendations there was recently a longer video released called "Låset i norr - I 19 och Norrbottensbrigaden" that has English CC available on it! It's a well-produced video that usually gets a fair amount if clicks! :) Cheers!

No nock to Sweden, great country and military none the less, but its not independently. Given their agreement with the US we are oblidged to give them our higher end gear and supplies. Statistically most of the gear they are currently listed as using is from Lockheed and Northrop with headwear from Rytheon, all of which sell 1000% solely to the US military. The defense cooperation agreement allows them to use of this gear and equipment. 13.6b in gear and 25b in weaponry was the deal which weve given already 80$% of that deal hence their rapid improvements in military hardware within the last decade with no increase in GOP to show how they can afford over 10b in gear out of the blue. Again, nothing against the great swed's but their rapid military growth is 100% the result in their agreement with the US to share US military hardware for Swedens political favor in the future, smart trade tbh.

When I did my military service, everybody needed to do it. We could put a 900K military force. It was clear who the enemy was. I can still until this day identify a Soviet T72 and T80 tank. When the Soviet collapsed, we change from a defending from Soviet attacks to having a smaller force that can help UN in for example Afghanistan and Mali. Now we are rearming. I would say the threat is bigger now than then. I recommend the videos called "if war came" it is in Swedish but have subtitles. kzbin.info/www/bejne/ap67dGqLgtKqqNk This is about Swedish readiness during the cold war. I would also recommend "If war comes" kzbin.info/www/bejne/j2mTpqeiYreefsk This is looking in to the future. Both are of documentary style and released by Swedish joint forces. No worries, it is not of the propaganda join the armed forces style. It is actually very good and professionally produced.

Pretty sure we have about 500 CV90's in Sweden, might be wrong though. Anyway, yes, Sweden technically uses the Leopard 2 tank, but we have our own purpose-built variant of it called the "Stridsvagn 122", literally translates to "Combat Wagon 122". It is a modified Leopard 2 A5 with additional armor and better internal systems than the default German tanks. The Strv 122-tanks were also built in Sweden. So, I would call our tank more of a cousin to the default Leopard 2. We donated 10 of them to Ukraine, and they praise it as the best version of the Leopard 2 they have gotten, which just warms the heart :)

Well, the highly trained and successful Western (NATO) units are prominently featured everywhere. Especially where there is no real resistance. They were prominently featured in Afghanistan, at the Kabul airport, weren't they? They were masterful refugees. The Finnish and Swedish joining was a great idea, it contributes about 80,000 people to the strength of NATO. Yes, and with a border of 1,300 kilometers (800 miles) to defend. I would like to point out that, meanwhile, the Russian army has been strengthened by half a million people. Are we more secure? After all, these countries owed their development to neutrality, for a few years, and the end of prosperity, because they entered the Western alliance. This was the worst response to the possible Russian threat, because they became openly anti-Russian. Just as the Swiss banking system will also feel that it has given up its neutrality, because in the future, many people will no longer consider Swiss banks completely safe. , while other areas, such as the Cayman Islands, will become more popular. In vain, you have to pay for stupidity.

I dunno much about these things but I remember finland thinking about gripens or f-35s. Gripen seemed to be the better option considering our dictrine is mostly hardly taxing guerilla warfare type of defense. And gripens dont need big airbases, they can land get airborne from roads, even gravel roads are good enough. So imagine these planes sitting in forest roads waiting for their job and then returning back to the forests. But i guess all the tech and stealth stuff was more important + intergration with nato so f35 it is

Sure Sweden has marines. So does Finland. It's been pointed out as a specific asset they bring. And the Swedish and Finnish marines train jointly already. Which is helped by the Finnish marines, "Nylands Brigad", is made up of people from the Swedish speaking minority in Finland. Sweden currently has two regiments of marines, "Amphib" 1 and 2, with Amphib 2 a fairly recent addition and being built up as we speak. So Sweden and Finland have about 1500 marines each, for a combined force of some 3000. That might not sound like a lot, but it's to be compared to the British Royal Marines, which currently has some 5500+ men. The French and Italians have about 3000+ marines each. The Germans have 1500 in the Seebatallion (only since 2014, and they seem mostly defensive, not tasked with taking and holding beaches). So by comparison NATO just added the equivalent of one of the major European nations in marines capability in the Baltic.

The defense cooperation agreement Sweden made with the US give it a range of high end gear other nations couldnt get from the US. With that contract comes a nice trade with out military contracted companies like Lockheed and Northrop designed gear and weaponry. Its 1 of only 2 countries with that contract with the US. Anytime the US develops anything you can be sure Sweden will have free range with it so essentially they have the top 90% of gear the US has (outside of a select few top secret weapons like the laser, satellite destroyer, etc). So by that degree Sweden's tech is on par with the US outside of those select few things.

ARCHER is also a British system sold to Sweden and Norway so its not really their system to brag about either unfortunately, that pride goes to the British engineers as its 90% off the BAE-AB 145 system. I love Sweden but 90% of their equipment is not their equipment lol. They rely HEAVILY on the US and British for their equipment. Great military, but given without assistance from other countries they wouldnt stand a chance on the world stage, id say they still have some ways to go to be a feared powerhouse. If someone else can turn the lights off, you dont own the house.

@@devinjenkins4752 Archer is a Swedsh developed & built system, & has now also been bought by the UK. The fact that BAE bought the company that created Archer, doesn't change the fact that it is Swedish.. Similar with many other systems.. Sweden & it's defence industry has a long history of creating & building great military gear, which is why so much Swedish gear is used by many NATO countries, including the US, which like the UK has a history of teaming up with Swedish defenseindusty & expertise when creating new weapon systems, see for exemple Excalibur (Bofors) & NLAW..🧐

@@leifiseland1218 Its literally built off the Abbot 2.3 AS90 systems made by the UK lol. Adding 10% to a system means nothing as a whole. Not only is it built off UK systems its owned by UK so its 10000% a UK system. Also theres nothing currently used by top 4 countries made by Swedens military outside of minor equipment hense the $7m sales to UK and $23m to US. We spend 34m on scopes, you really think were buying something special with 23m? 7m? They arent selling top of the line equipment. WW1/2 sure their equipment was top notch best in the world. Today they are literally just a subsidiary to US tech and one of the few countries allowed use and free range to use that tech to make whatever they want. Those free range items are the ones you speak of and arent high end. Statistically Sweden gets 13b in gear and equipment while only producing 230m in tech worth selling. Their spec ops literally uses Rytheon gear lmao, why would they use gear produced by a US company if theirs is so good? You are overexaggerating their military might. But yes their Archer system is a UK system none the less. Add a body kit to a car it doesnt change the maker of the car.

Yes, NATO has expanded and strengthened in numbers when Finland & Sweden have joined the pact. At the same time, NATO countries have limited resources in terms of both military equipment and their economic muscles. In that perspective, support for Ukraine has unfortunately weakened NATO & exposed a fragile side that did not exist before the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

To begin with swedens Military units have just been for defense and to be fair we dont need Nato to defend us from russia since we are so specialised in our own terrain. and thats alot of ground, forrest, lakes and no roads to cover. also russia needs to invade from finland and thats a whole lot of another task. then you have calulater the distanse from where you are entering sweden. in the north.... then you only got like a distance from copenhagen to paris of absolutely nothing but nothingness and some thundra to take over and also have swedens military defense with kind of the most up to date tecnology to fight of at the same time.

I'm just curious, what the hell are you talking about? Let's look at some numbers. About 150,000 Russian soldiers attacked Ukraine, the Ukrainian army of roughly 200-250,000 people. They took 20% of the country in one week, Western aid started, as much military support as the Ukrainian 50-year budget of the armed forces. One and a half times more than Russia's annual military budget, in 2022 Russian military expenditures are estimated to have increased by 9.2% to about 86.4 billion dollars. This corresponded to 4.1% of Russia's gross domestic product (GDP) in 2022, compared to 3.7% in 2021. Now, after 2 years, the entire West has run out of tools and ammunition, and the Ukrainian front is collapsing. What good was the whole??? Apart from the fact that 7-800,000 Slavs died, most of them Ukrainians, they destroyed an entire country, Western arms factories received enough orders for 5-10 years. Congratulations to your former prime minister, Jonson, for preventing the cease-fire negotiated in Istanbul. So the Donbas it did not become an autonomous Ukrainian territory, instead 2 other oblasts were included in Russia, and as things look, at least another 4 will meet this fate. Maybe if more English, American, French, German, Polish, and other nationalities mass-murdering psychopaths had gone to fight in a war that was independent of them and not part of them, the situation would have been different. The only good thing is that the majority died. It's not a pity for them.
