Brita Water Filter versus ZeroWater Filter: Which is The Best?

It's been a while since we've done a water test. We've been really happy with our ZeroWater filter for over 7 years, but a friend had a Brita filter and her water tasted a little better. So we got one and decided to test TDS, pH, and the taste in a blind taste test. We use Zero Water every day, but both Felicia and I blindly thought Brita tasted the best in our own test. Weird! And Brita is actually more acidic than Zero Water, despite ZeroWater's total lack of minerals! Our results are interesting. What water filter do you like best?

We used Zero Water in our salt water tank. It was really expensive! About 5x operating costs than an RO system. Additionally you should keep it refrigerated as the resin exchange harbors bacteria in it, and it's recommended to keep the resulting water refrigerated too--which is problematic for temperature matching tank water.

According to Brita, standard filters work like a sieve, using carbon to lower mercury content and the taste and smell of chlorine. There is also an ion-exchange resin to filter zinc, copper, and cadmium. What a filter removes from water varies among products, but Brita state that the filtered substances include asbestos, benzene, cadmium, chlorine, copper, lead, mercury, and zinc.

@supershiva11
@supershiva11 2 жыл бұрын
More acidic the better for descaling calcium - it's why vinegar is so useful for the job. Britta specifically intends to remove calcium while leaving other minerals, but both do this well. Tap water should be above 7 always, between calcium and chlorination. Rain water tends to be particularly acidic, as low as 5.2! This is due to carbon dioxide reacting with water in the air, creating carbonic acid. Calcium collects from the high concentration in the earth, but particularly on areas heavy with limestone. Any filtration helps remove calcium and will help with your coffee maker

Okay I like this test and comparison the best comparing the different filters. At first I was focused on the lowest TDS values but in the end i kinda realized that taste is the factor I'm most concerned with. Most filtered water is good and, don't hate me here, tap is also good so you're really after the taste more than people might initially think. Does the zero TDS justify the higher cost of the zerowater system or is this just marketing mumbojumbo when you'd be perfectly happy with the Brita? Dunno. I am curious to get my hands on a zerowater jug so I can compare it to my Brita.
@brianlanders5306
@brianlanders5306 2 жыл бұрын
To be honest, I think it's all about marketing. The Brita pitcher filter lasts me 6 months and a package of 4 at Walmart runs around $20.00, which is much cheaper than the Zero water filters, that lasts 2 to 3 weeks and are $20.00 just for one. You have to have really terrible water to justify that kind of cost. I know many parts of the desert southwest has arsenic in the water, so I can see the justification for the expense.

I was a water filtration technician for a couple years, you do not want water that’s 0 TDS. It’s strips all the minerals. TDS only measures minerals not Chlorine,Uranium,copper, lead, dbp’s etc etc. To put in perspective you can have great water with High TDS, and you can add nail polish remover to distilled water and it would still test 0 TDS. Incorrect usage of scientific terminology. Brita taste "better" because you can taste it. Zero Water doesn't have a taste. Pure water is tasteless.
