Darren is a creep. He's dishonest, took food from others who really needed it. He should be charged and made to pay back every penny. Gavin needs to be let go and made to pay back all he gave to Darren. And yet, Charlotte-she gets turned away for food relief, when she works her ass off volunteering at A FOOD BANK! How screwed up is this??

Charlotte probably just feels unequipped to deal with the world yet. Until she can house and feed herself without worry, and deal with all the agencies we do in life with confidence, she will probably feel she is not quite grown up. It is a huge disadvantage to live in a family that does not communicate, and this lovely lass went from one foster home to another. I just want to give that wonderful girl a big hug. She is a lass any mother would be very proud of.

Most kids arent prepared for the world, she has had zero guidance from a parent. School doesnt teach you how to live, parents do. Anybody can work a job at walmart, home depot or a dollar store even if they havent gone to school but can stack stuff on wall with one side facing outwards. Now money planning is something that your parent teach you or should of.

Nah, that has nothing to do with it. Obviously dumb asses like him don't help the situation but he's such a ting drop in the giant ocean of social spending that it doesn't actually affect anything in the end. There are far fewer "Darrens" than there are of the other people you see in the video. He's the exception, not the rule. The real problem is that there are just far too many people relying on social welfare for the budget. If they need more money that means raising taxes and then they won't get elected anyway and thus can't change anything. On top of that you see how many of these people just keep having children when they can't even support themselves. Those kids basically don't stand a chance in life, the vast majority of them have basically been born into a life of guaranteed poverty and possibly drug use. It's all well and good saying "But she really wants children!" or whatever but the money still has to come from somewhere. Every cent that goes for her children is taken away from other people.

Gnawer Shreth Excellent comment. Britain has endless opportunities for employment and education yet we have people who make no contribution to the country, but have a lot of children and expect our country to feed them. There’s an entitlement even in young people, and it’s disgusting. Three meals a day? I’m lucky if I get two, in between working nine hours a day. But I’m supposed to feel sorry for them? I don’t. Thank god for Great Britain because in any other country, these people would likely be dead within a week.

The guy running the food bank likely knew Darren secretly. I mean everything pointed to that. The food without proper vouchers, the special food, being the 10,000th client, the grocery deliveries, and so on. They were running some kind of test scam together to see how far they could go preparing for an even bigger conjob. Testing the waters on a small scale. I also think Darren was selling the food and delivering it with that van of his and charging delivery also.

I did that for a "Charlotte" many years ago. Her real name was Jody and had lived with her father until he died of cancer with nothing to his name but debts. I use to work with her father which is how I knew her. She did get assisted housing and food but no cash or way to travel and she had a 2 yr old child. I did so much for her financially and being a friend. Allowed her to drive an extra vehicle, found her part time work and helped her get into a business school so she could learn some skills. After a year I learned she hadn't been to the school in months, had several unpaid traffic tickets, taken out payday loans, DHS threatening to take her child because she had been arrested with illegal drugs......... I really was duped and thought she was getting herself on track but it was all an act. I want to believe this "Charlotte" is on the right track but I have to be skeptical.

It was very sad to hear Sandra, a beautiful woman of colour, with 5 kids to feed and legitimate food vouchers ,was questioned, she's already living through hell, why make it worse, Gavin. And then to watch Gavin speak to another woman with a small child, who was clearly from another country, in such a condescending manner due to her not speaking English very well… But Gavin had no qualms giving lots of extras to Darren, even going as far as hand picking Darren to meet a city official. And when it was pointed out to him from the guy interviewing him, he immediately asked if he was filming lol. I feel like Gavin enjoys punching down on women, especially anyone from a minority, just like the old days when women had to stand in a breadline for hours and were asked humiliating questions in order to get a little food to keep their families alive. Even Gavin dragging that women to his church and asking her to go on his church stage was awful. I think Gavin is in it for his own narcissistic supply.

Seriously David the journalist who is doing this documentary is a beautiful kind soul. We need to be more like David. And shame on Gavin for being rude to Sandra for reaching out for food with VOUCHERS!!! Edit: Oh oh but Gavin bends the rules for another. No no no shady af. Very disrespectful and disgraceful. Shame on him. Shame on Darrin for taking food from others who actually needed it. Lying about his sons birthday to get cake and money. That really angered me. Conman !!!! So one more edit: my heart breaks that I am about to say this but it appears that Gavin at the food bank only seems to scrutinize people of color!!!! Disgusting!

Charlotte seems like an amazing young lady, she has so little yet gives so much and is now going on to become a social worker! Such an inspiration to any young person coming out of care, and those that haven't been in care. I wonder how she is doing now.

Yes but remember he's making a fair old whack from other peoples misfortune and so is the production company. it's hard to determine whose manipulation is the worst here. The religious volunteer recruiting converts using food as an entrance into their lives, the production company making money from stories of poverty and the scammer Darren using both of the above.

With the exception of the 'con artist', I admire those families on the documentary who are in genuine help and assistance due to their unfortunate circumstances. I particularly admire Charlotte who comes across as a clever and gutsy young woman who clearly deserves a better start in life knowing her background. I wish all of then the very best.

Charlotte's an amazing young lady. I wish her the best in life. I've done the no eating to provide for my child. It's hard to claw your way back. I got $25 a month for food from salvation army in Australia. They would only allow one claim a month. My rent was $ 150 pw centreline gave me $34 a ftn. I received $183 a week for pt work while son was in school. I shopped for clothes from vinniies when they had $ 5 bag days. I lived rural and eventually my car was repossessed. No buses. We set up tent under a bridge. It was horrible. But now I'm doing OK. My son and I haven't forgotten my pt employer who helped me get on my feet. I now donate regularly to local charities and to animal rescue. This brings back memories of tough times yet I am thankful for the resilience it gave me. Goodbye to the 1980^s you aren't missed

Grant is the real villain of the piece. The conman Darren was only given that food because of Grant. Grant challenging those people with actual food certs was humiliating & bullying. It was like watching Oliver ask for more gruel IRL.
