My mum was a single mum with myself and my younger brother and we struggled but I was never made aware of it. I was the same age as Kasim’s sister when we became a one parent family and I think I was so lucky to be sheltered from my mums worries. When I look back, all I can think of is how proud I am of my mum for allowing my brother and I to stay children for as long as we did. We were poor but blessed. I cried for these beautiful children, they’re not only robbed of little luxuries but robbed of their childhood too. This should never happen in a country as rich as this, it’s heartbreaking.

Free education - huge luxury many kids would do anything. For 4. Free housing - a lot of ppl in other country’ssleep on the street 5. Free money ie universal credits which consist of child benefit So I think it’s all perspective This is a rich country and it is doing a lot but only if you see past a luxury life and can these families can actually see what they are getting Tell them to live in a 3rd world country for a week and they won’t come back unappreciative rather prob motivated to do better Everybody is so caught up with keeping up with the Jones’s that they think their life is so bad Stop comparing to other people, the government which takes our taxpayers money looks after you Of course your not going to get get everything on top of the basics if you did then why would anyone work? I don’t care what religion a person is, what county they come to the UK from children are children, innocent and dependant. It’s heart wrenching to see these little people suffering instead of enjoying being kids and their youth which should be their best years. Rental prices are scandalous in the UK and should be capped. Food prices cost of living it’s literally unmanageable when you work let alone when you can’t. Everybody’s situations is different but at the end of the day it’s these little babies who are feeling the pain and it’s this which turns young people in to drug dealers, runners and to crime. The knock on effect from such living conditions can continue way in to adulthood and beyond often affecting one’s mental health. We need change right now to alter the future for our next generation and beyond. There’s a section of this video with a little boy on the park crying, I don’t care who you are, that will touch a nerve for anybody who witnesses it. No child anywhere should ever suffer over something as simple as basic living. Tonight when I sit down for a meal I’ll as usual think of all those out there who won’t have that, this disturbs me an awful lot. It used to be the case that people traditionally at risk of ending up on the streets were running away from abusive relationships, struggled with mental illness, or had substance abuse problems. This is no longer the case. Even relationship breakdowns didn't previously cause homelessness as housing was affordable, even for a single-earning household. The cost of living is now so high that people struggle to get on the housing ladder without the privilege of someone helping them out, either by letting them stay with them for very low rent or by helping them with a deposit. This puts poor people at the mercy of landlords who have the right to sell their property with a month's notice or raise rents consistently over time. It also used to be the case that if you worked full time, you could pay rent, bills, food, save for emergencies, and still have enough money left over to go on holiday. 14 years of Tory rule has seen the biggest reduction in the quality of life in 150 years. People need to understand that everyone is at risk of homelessness and poverty if made redundant or they become seriously ill or have a serious accident due to the cost of living crisis. I don't understand why people are so quick to blame people desperately struggling when they should really be pointing the finger at the government.

You can work between school times and look for help for care between these times. You can ask for help to look after your children whilst you're at work. There is no excuse not to work. It's harsh, I know, but I've done it. The first lads step dad, what's he doing? Is he working? My middle son struggled at school, and I helped him get to be in a better place. I grew up just like this in the 1970s 1980s. I am one of six kids who were crammed together in a three bedroom council house in Wembley. We knew nothing but poverty. I started work in 1986 at the age of 15, and have worked full time ever since. I did not have children, because I knew I couldn't give them the life I would want them to have. Plus, being brought up in poverty has made me selfish. I want to have a few luxuries out of the money that I've worked for. It's harsh, but if you can't afford to give your kids a decent standard of living, you shouldn't have them.

I am coming from Bulgaria. There was no universal credit, no housing and even now is very little help, but at 15 I was already working hard the land that had little money value but gave us food. In Eastern Europe not many are waiting for the government to step in and replace parents responsibilities. By 20, if you are not coming from a wealthy family, you know how to run a household, basic plumbing, carpeting and you work from the dawn until dusk. Channel 4 should do a similar documentary in Eastern Europe so they can learn a thing or two about poverty.

I am from Poland. When I was 6, I already helped at my grandparents' farm. We had food on the farm, so we were self-sufficient. I also helped take care of my siblings while everyone was working. But eventually, I had to leave - I had no prospects. I came to the UK when I was 16 and worked there since then. Eventually, I finished my education here. I lived in an ex-council flat, sharing accommodation with many working folks. Life was harsh. But in the end, I got lucky. I got into University, and now I no longer have to work insane hours (today, things are much more challenging because competition is fierce). But the whole journey had an enormous impact on my mental health, and I didn't have kids because I didn't want to put them through the same thing. You are right. We learned much about survival in Eastern Europe because no one gave us anything. So, you pick up all the skills you can to survive. During my life, I even worked at a nuclear reactor site. Still, I feel sad for the people who struggle. They want to have families and decent lives, but life is brutal and unfair for many. How can this problem be solved? Well, I certainly won't count on politicians. I am a working immigrant; I was a "problem" in Poland because I was born there, and I am a "problem" in the UK because I am a foreigner. So, what is left for me is to learn how to dissaparate, but that's what I will learn at Hogwarts. Wish me luck.

Literally. Kids are not a necessity in life. It’s not like food, working, housing. It’s also people that they have kids, multiple, while they’re maybe in a better financial position but they don’t have savings in the background to support multiple kids IF they were to lose their job/house etc .. which seems to be an issue here. Idk why you’d ever have ONE child unless you had insane savings to begin with, a property of your own/good rental situation. People don’t properly plan to bring children into the world, regardless that yes poverty can happen to anyone, but to willingly be ignorant and subject children to this is somewhat irresponsible and selfish when you’re already on a low income situation to begin with. If you struggle to take care of yourself, or rent on your own, don’t create more lives.

Some of this is the parents fault, if you breed like rats you when you don’t have the money to get a bigger home then that’s not the councils fault it’s the parents, putting their children in homes not suitable for them. If you don’t have money to move don’t keep having multiple children you can’t afford because they suffer unnecessarily which isn’t ok. I feel so sorry for the children they should not have to worry about money or about food or heating they should only be worrying about being a child, that little boy that said about borrowing money to his mummy from his piggy bank made me feel so sad for him but also so heart warmed how kind he is in his heart. It will understandably affect their learning because of worrying about problems the adults should be dealing with.
