Bertrand Russell’s Last Message Bertrand Russell This statement on the Middle East was dated 31st January, 1970, and was read on 3rd February, the day after Bertrand Russell’s death, to an International Conference of Parliamentarians meeting in Cairo. The latest phase of the undeclared war in the Middle East is based upon a profound miscalculation. The bombing raids deep into Egyptian territory will not persuade the civilian population to surrender, but will stiffen their resolve to resist. This is the lesson of all aerial bombardment. The Vietnamese who have endured years of American heavy bombing have responded not by capitulation but by shooting down more enemy aircraft. In 1940 my own fellow countrymen resisted Hitler’s bombing raids with unprecedented unity and determination. For this reason, the present Israeli attacks will fail in their essential purpose, but at the same time they must be condemned vigorously throughout the world. The development of the crisis in the Middle East is both dangerous and instructive. For over 20 years Israel has expanded by force of arms. After every stage in this expansion Israel has appealed to “reason” and has suggested “negotiations”. This is the traditional role of the imperial power, because it wishes to consolidate with the least difficulty what it has already taken by violence. Every new conquest becomes the new basis of the proposed negotiation from strength, which ignores the injustice of the previous aggression. The aggression committed by Israel must be condemned, not only because no state has the right to annexe foreign territory, but because every expansion is an experiment to discover how much more aggression the world will tolerate. The refugees who surround Palestine in their hundreds of thousands were described recently by the Washington journalist I.F. Stone as “the moral millstone around the neck of world Jewry.” Many of the refugees are now well into the third decade of their precarious existence in temporary settlements. The tragedy of the people of Palestine is that their country was “given” by a foreign Power to another people for the creation of a new State. The result was that many hundreds of thousands of innocent people were made permanently homeless. With every new conflict their number have increased. How much longer is the world willing to endure this spectacle of wanton cruelty? It is abundantly clear that the refugees have every right to the homeland from which they were driven, and the denial of this right is at the heart of the continuing conflict. No people anywhere in the world would accept being expelled en masse from their own country; how can anyone require the people of Palestine to accept a punishment which nobody else would tolerate? A permanent just settlement of the refugees in their homeland is an essential ingredient of any genuine settlement in the Middle East. We are frequently told that we must sympathize with Israel because of the suffering of the Jews in Europe at the hands of the Nazis. I see in this suggestion no reason to perpetuate any suffering. What Israel is doing today cannot be condoned, and to invoke the horrors of the past to justify those of the present is gross hypocrisy. Not only does Israel condemn a vast number. of refugees to misery; not only are many Arabs under occupation condemned to military rule; but also Israel condemns the Arab nations only recently emerging from colonial status, to continued impoverishment as military demands take precedence over national development. All who want to see an end to bloodshed in the Middle East must ensure that any settlement does not contain the seeds of future conflict. Justice requires that the first step towards a settlement must be an Israeli withdrawal from all the territories occupied in June, 1967. A new world campaign is needed to help bring justice to the long-suffering people of the Middle East.

The problem is that by now the state of Israel is firmly established as a part of "The West". "The West" is a dissolving empire and in a struggle to survive as the dominant human power. Instead of embracing a new world order based on cooperation and compromise it is insistently fighting to maintain its colonialist power. This is why "The West" is so stubborn in its support of the mini-colonialism of Israel. Netanyahu is a particularly evil and clever man and is taking full advantage of this situation to feed his own ego and build his perceived "legacy" as the greatest Israeli hero.

I remember Russell's book, Why I Am Not A Christian that I read as a teen and reread it as an adult. It made to this day a lasting impression on me. It is a book everyone should read. What a brilliant thinker. I thank my older brother for having such books around the house such as Russell's great book, Why I Am Not A Christian. Because of it I never entertained becoming a Christian and I am greatly indebted to Bertrand Russell. Also for his pacifism which kept me out of the Vietnam War as I became a pacifist too. I owe a lot to Bertrand Russell.

Bertrand would have hated the Muslim religion more if he had been logical but he was imperfect. Unless his dislike of Jews just made the old coot like Muslims more. Anything to kill Jews for Bert. Bert disliked Jesus who said judge not lest ye be judged. But he said a lot of crap and wanted eternal hell for moral people of science, reason, or just skeptics. He liked Slavery! knew nothing of germ theory or science or DNA and made no good predictions unless you really want to stretch what he said and be illogical. Nothing special, Jesus was a wise man for his time and most of what was written about him was made up years later. The Quran states multiple times that non-Muslims will go to Hell. So it's easy to see where Bert would have hated Muslims. llâh has promised the hypocrites; men and women, and the disbelievers, the Fire of Hell, therein shall they abide. It will suffice them. Allâh has cursed them and for them is the lasting torment. Sounds so much like Jesus. And Islam is more than fine with killing Infidels - non-believers, Jews, Christians, and most anyone who doesn't agree with them or writes bad of them or publishes cartoons. Of course, Hamas and Hezbollah rev things in a state of craziness to make the slaughter of innocents a hobby. They can't be reasoned with; Most Christians at least are living in this century. There are no laws against sexual harassment, spousal rape, domestic violence, Homophobia, honor killings, or child marriage in backward Muslim countries .. Israel is an advanced democracy though they don't always behave so well when in fear of attack from crazy Muslims. Muslim Women would be lucky to be colonized by any other people. I do wish both Israel and Palestinians peace but when Hamas kills off 1500 Israelis and others in one attack, Israel must respond and hopefully avoid killing many Palestinians. Where Hamas hides behind churches and hospitals and Palestinians.

Dear Brother Paul, You are brilliant to bring up this particular massacre, we call it the massacre of "Bahr El-Baqar". One of our brilliant poets wrote about it, the late Salah Jaheen, it goes something like this: “In April 1970, Israeli warplanes bombed a children’s school in the village of Bahr al-Baqar in Sharkia Governorate, resulting in the death of 30 girls on the spot and the wounding of 50 of their classmates and teachers at the school... innocent blood, a link in a long and continuing chain of Zionist crimes, and a right that remains until the Day of Judgment.” Words of the great poet Salah Jaheen The lesson is over Gather the notebooks With the blood that was on their papers, it was shed.. in the United Nations Palace.. Children's drawing competition. What do you think about red spots? O conscience of the world, my dear.. This is for an Egyptian girl and a brunette.. She was one of my most brilliant students. Her blood paints a flower.. Raiser of the banner of a revolution.. Drawing the face of a conspiracy .. Drawing people of tyranny .. Drawing Fire .. Drawing Shame .. On Zionism and colonialism.. Drawing Fire .. Drawing Shame .. On Zionism and colonialism.. And the world that is patient with them.. And silent about the actions of the devils.. The lesson is over.. Lay down the notebooks.. With the blood that was on their papers, it was shed.. in the United Nations Palace.. Children's drawing competition. What did the men of free thought think? In this idea engraved in blood.. From a poor child born in bitterness.. But was a sweet mouthful of laughter. The lesson is over.. Lay down the notebooks.. With the blood that was on their papers, it was shed.. in the United Nations Palace.. Children's drawing competition. What do you think, people, Arabs? What do you think, free people? The blood of children comes to you.. It says take revenge on the evil ones. It drips on the papers, spelling out the names. The parents demand revenge for the children.

If you were an Egyptian living in the time of Moses, & you saw the Children of Israel being persecuted & oppressed, who would you stand with, oppressed or the oppressor? If you were a German civilian during the Holocaust, who would you stand with, oppressed or the oppressor? If you have any humanity in you, you would stand with the oppressed no matter what your cause is. O believers! Stand firm for justice as witnesses for Allah even if it is against yourselves, your parents, or close relatives. (in Quran 4:35) And what is it with you? You do not fight in the cause of Allah and for oppressed men, women, and children who cry out, “Our Lord! Deliver us from this land of oppressors! Appoint for us a saviour; appoint for us a helper-all by Your grace.” (Quran 4:75) who enjoin what is good and forbid what is evil (in Quran 9:112) You are the best community ever raised for humanity-you encourage good, forbid evil, and believe in Allah. (in Quran 3:110) Islam stands with justice & is against oppression. The secular West & the evil USA in particular is supporting the oppressor for it's own agenda. They've been doing it for decades and decades. The burning and decapitation of children was widely refuted. You can look it up yourself. What is unfortunately ironic is that Israel is the one murdering children and civilians (both Palestinians and Israelis). You can look this up yourself too. Israel could not handle any hostage negotiations (Netanyahu cannot afford to look bad and he does not have experienced personnel to guide and command) so they killed both the hostages and the assailants. This was reported by Israeli media at the time. The houses where hostages were held were completely destroyed. The rockets Hamas had been using could not do that the amount of damage. The only thing that could was a tank, and Hamas does not have tanks. Again, you will find evidence of it if you look hard enough. You have to challenge what you read and hear my friend.

Throughout the interwar years Poale Zion which represented the labour wing of the Zionist movement assiduously lobbied the British labour movement. Labour Zionists and several of the British Labour Party's colonial experts shared the view that settler colonialism could be a beneficial to the indigenous people. Several British labour movement figures, including Ramsay MacDonald and Herbert Morrison, visited Palestine as guests of the Histadrut, the Zionist trade union federation in Palestine. On their return, they spoke favourably of Zionist labour institutions, depicting them as bringing social progress and modernity to the Middle East. At the end of the Second World War, the Labour Party leadership saw the setting up of a Jewish state both as a recompense to the Jewish people for the Holocaust and as a way to resolve the problem of finding refuge for the displaced Jews of Europe.

"...to all my fellow humans please stop looking at peoples religious tags and do the right thing..." Unfortunately, I think we have to acknowledge that this conflict is more about the willingess of one group (the Zionists) to decide they want all of the land another group is living in, and set about moving in and displacing them, taking their land, taking or destroying their homes, destroying their crops, doing what they can do "encourage" them to leave, or to force them to, or to just kill them. Prior to that displacement-and-takeover initiative (lookin' at you, David Ben-Gurion), Arabs and Jews had been living mostly peacefully there for eons, with the Jews being a somewhat smallish minority. But I guess one could say that the "God gave us this land (in ancient history)" component is religious in a non-trivial way, so sure... someone in ancient times heard a voice in his head that still has that (Zionist) subset of the Jewish population feeling authorized/entitled to take it all. I'm heartened, though, by the fact truly compassionate voices and groups do exist amongst the general Jewish population, even there in Israel/Palestine, and that they're decrying and protesting against the long-standing human rights violations and outright war-crimes committed by the IDF on behalf of the Zionist "leadership".

Bertrand was antisemitic all his life but if he lived among Muslims and their crazy take on infidels and sex, he would have hated them more. Don't be so happy that a guy who hated most religions disliked Jews more than Muslims. He just didn't know Muslims or see many around to realize how they are screwed up over their religions. Russell could have written a book on "Why I am not A Muslim" just as easy on "Why I am not a Christian". Of course, being an atheist Russell would have been killed or tortured. Some Jews in Israel are obnoxious to say they are the chosen people but most Muslims are more fanatic and don't mind their terrorist friends like Hamas.. though only 27% of Palestinians like Hamas in 2023. What have the Muslims contributed to the world .. The Jews are bigger contributors to inventions and discoveries that save millions of lives. Religious people believe in a fairy tale and they or so often sanctimonious and caustic to non-believers. The God of the Old Testament is arguably the most unpleasant character in all fiction: jealous and proud of it; a petty, unjust, unforgiving control-freak; a vindictive, bloodthirsty ethnic cleanser; a misogynistic, homophobic, racist, infanticidal, genocidal, filicidal, pestilential, megalomaniacal, sadomasochistic, capriciously malevolent bully. But most religious people have no idea why this is true. But god is worse under Jesus's time when moral people with little free will (most of who we are is from deterministic causes as science knows) will find themselves in eternal hell. And prayer for others never works in scientific studies by Christian Hospitals or Muslim hospitals. No scientific studies show that prayer for others work because there is no god or Allah or Jesus. No proof. Of course, nothing phases true believers to understand enlightened science. Russell was a scientist and logica in most ways. Israel may have been wrong to take territory in 1947, but who could share territory now with Muslims who only want to kill off all Jews. Israel should pay Palestinians and move them to places not so close to Israel. I do wish both Israel and Palestinians peace but when Hamas kills off 1500 Israelis and others in one attack, Israel must respond and hopefully can avoid killing many Palestinians. Where Hamas hides behind churches and hospitals and Palestinians.

Many of the founders and supporters of Zionism were Jewish atheists or at least had a skeptical attitude towards the religion. They viewed Zionism as a political movement to create a national Jewish state rather than a religious movement. Figures like Theodor Herzl, considered the father of modern political Zionism, were notoriously atheistic. Asked ChatGPT and gave me a list of which atheists were at the founding: • David Ben-Gurio • Ben-Gurion • Golda Meir • Chaim Weizmann (First president): Although he started out as a religious Zionist, over the years he became increasingly secular and atheistic. And much more. I ask myself, how can you be in favor of something like that if someone is a Jew for the Thora? They are atheists and you can't expect anything. It would be comparable for me if, as a Muslim, I fought and died for communism or secularism or democracy. May Allah strengthen the brothers and sisters in Palestine. May Allah make the Ummah one instead of divided into different nations mostly created by infidels and hypocrites to weaken them and hate each other with this cancer of nationalism.

As Muslims, we cannot use the behavior and attitudes of people, institutions or states other than ourselves as an excuse for our own defense. There are principles that determine our actions and behavior, and we can only put forward our struggle in line with these principles. It is very sad that the article written in 1970 describes the Palestinian struggle as if it was written yesterday. This means that there has been a Palestinian struggle for more than 50 years and the current situation is worse than the beginning. This situation must have something to tell us as Muslims. I wonder when we will say enough is enough. If we keep not following Allah’s principles then how come we wait his help.
