AnimalCrazy123 you're right. 10,000+ horses slaughtered every year and sent over to Europe to be eaten and turned into dog food. Many are thoroughbreds:(
@taylormarie23458 жыл бұрын
You would think that, but if you visit auction houses your heart will be torn to pieces after you see young TB after TB be sold to slaughter. TB arent worth anything unless they're making money. Sorry to say. I've a few friends that visit auctions and buy horses that aren't wounded or sick, and a majority of the horses they outbid the meat man for are thoroughbreds. :( It's sad seeing people defend this disgusting industry year after year. Yes, many horses are treated well. Those that are not winners, a majority, are thrown away when no longer useful.
@taylormarie23458 жыл бұрын
Wow. You should do some research yourself, your ignorance is very saddening. In 10 years, 70% of the thoroughbred foals born were later sent to slaughter. Please don't let yourself be brainwashed.
@taylormarie23458 жыл бұрын
Have no idea about the UK system! If they treat their horses better than they do here, I am very happy. But here in the U.S, over-breeding is an issue with most breeds, especially TB's. I just wish the world knew about it, there is so many people who deny the fact that thousands of them are wasted because of the greedy and irresponsible racing industry. It warms my heart that SOME (there is still plenty, perhaps over a thousand a year who don't) thoroughbreds that are quick to be pulled from slaughter in the U.K. Unfortunately it's not the case for United States. In fact, before they're killed, they're on a two week journey of torture in an over crowded cattle trailers before they meet their fate. Thanks to the brain deads in PETA, they are trucked over to Mexico/ Canada where the deed is done inhumanely. I wish nothing more than for horses to not be bred for anything other than a family to enjoy and take care of them for their WHOLE life. Not to be worked until useless. There is no denying that the racing industry is responsible for tens of thousands of horse deaths. I do not care where it's happening, the fact that there's already an over population issue is enough for me to say that ANYWHERE that let's this go on is unthoughtful and ignorant.

Basic and routine animal care includes bathing and its sometimes more efficient to give multiple people the experience they need on a single horse.

wolfgirl Actually, upon tons of research, horses quite enjoy people riding them. It's their way of exercise and fun. It's only cruel if people are racing them, or forcing them to reach the climax of their abilities. Not to mention the idiotic inhumane punishments that some people give them (I hate that. Those people need to go to hell). So it's actually healthy for the horses if they are ridden at a pace they don't mind. (Plus they were bred for being ridden, therefore it's perfectly normal). And if you still aren't convinced, think of it this way: These animals are over 2000 pounds and one strike from their hoof could kill the strongest of men/women. Their jaws are strong enough to bite fingers off and lift you into the air by your hair. If they TRULY had a problem with people riding them, they would make sure no human could ever ride them again. So you really shouldn't be calling the pleasure riding part of the sport cruel, you should be seeking out the slaughterhouses, cruel races, and overworked/abusive parts of this community to have that opinion about. Because at the end of the day, THEY are the cruel ones. So if you love horses, don't be against riding them! Trust me, there's a horse out there who would LOVE to have you as a partner! :) (Didn't realize how much I typed out, srry!)

Some drugs Num pain so they can still run . They whip the horses with enough force to make visible impact . I have many OTTB's and all of them were thrown to the side and. Forgotten literally ..they weren't fed ,worked , or bathed . I hate all racing and the way they use the bit too control not trust or body signals or partner . I Have a jockey in my family and he shocked all of the horses he rode to make them go faster . The way some of people treat the horses is despicable. They should've never stepped near one

The bits...the whips, the chains, they just bother me, and the stalling, such beautiful creatures shouldn't experience being shoved in a stall and being whipped and experience pain through a bit...sorry but I'm against racing and always will be, I know some people like it and they think the horses like it but it's not true, the horse doesn't run for money, they run either because they're playing, or they're running from a predator, no matter how well these horses are treated, this just isn't natural, horses don't love this, they don't like spending their days in a stall and only taken out for exercise and racing. These horses should be in open pasture, 24/7 like their ancestors. Some people might like racing, I don't, but people need to put the horse first and stop thinking about what they'll win if they force a horse to run
@jpowner587 жыл бұрын
Scarlet. 5561 Unfortunately as true as that is, thoroughbreds are domestic animals and rely on us to look after them. It's also really sad that there isn't enough equestrians to take on retired racehorses. Hundreds retire each year in the UK and it's a hassle to find time and money to retrain them. At the raceyard I do work experience on weekends and I have fallen in love with this mare and I am planning on buying her when she retires and retraining her to be my general riding horse. She's not a good racer, comes last in almost every race and I heard her owner say that she's losing him money and he doesn't want her back on his farm when she retires. I know the raceyard that I go to treats the horses really well with good facilities but I'm also not ignorant to this racing world either.
@SashaSouthHoof6 жыл бұрын
You clearly don’t ride horses nor been on a thoroughbred. They love to run and yes they should have pasture time but not 24/7 Do your research
@jesusismybaeagh4257 жыл бұрын
"My role as a jockey is to get inside the horses mind" Then why can't you understand when you're pushing a horse too far? A horse shouldn't be defined by the speed it runs at, nor should it be not understood or cared for. You can't build a relationship with a horse by training it too fast, too soon, and then racing it for a few years, and sending it afterwards to an auction where it'll be bought by a kill buyer.
@meganproffitt4246 жыл бұрын
1) These horses aren't "pushed too far" 2) They are not defined by their speed. 3) Actually jockeys DO have relationships with horses. The horses know them and perk their ears when they see them. 4) Racehorses aren't sent to slaughter. That's illegal per racing rules and anyone doing it loses their license forever
@Khenfu_Cake5 жыл бұрын
A champion racehorse would absolutely not be sold to a butcher. That's like sending a Ferrari to the scrapyard. They would probably end up retiring to some farm and used for breeding if not sold for insane amounts of money to someone who just wants to own a former race champion because of the prestige.

Horse raccing is taking a horse who is to Young to be ridden, let alone galloped for 7 minutes straight pushing it past its limits , then disposing of it when it breaks. Even if a horse gives it everything it's got, if it Is not making profit it is sent to a slaughterhouse. Horse raccing is not a sport it's just the exploiting of a beautiful animal and making it look good in the eyes of the public.
@rusty29985 жыл бұрын
Actually a horse started at 2 is less prone to injury then a horse started at 3 is through multiple examinations by the racing examination vets and all recorded injuries at track. Also the term gallop isn't used by exercise riders who actually spend time with racehorses, same for jockeys. A full gallop, or better known as a breeze, is maybe put into place once or twice a month for 3 minutes. The rest is trot and 'canter' sets as you non excersize riders say. Really the canter set is called a gallop, it's a quicker canter but slower then the full gallop. Honestly it's like my track warm up, I run an 800m, walk 200m, run 800m and it continues. If I take a break after I run the mile. Training isn't abusive and should never be. If that horse didn't want to be ridden damn right it'll show you it doesn't want to be ridden which goes for every horse in every discipline. These jockeys and riders know very well that when it comes to racing, it's the most life-threatening sport for humans. Running doesn't hurt a horse, but if you lose a stirrup going 40mph on a hot blooded thoroughbred and fall off boom you're paralyzed and can never walk again. These horses are never overworked I push my horse to do their best like my trainer pushes me. If you feel like that horse is being lazy I get out my crop and use it as my way of saying "stop being lazy" honestly I hate getting up at 7am to go to the barn and I bet the horse hates it to but there is 0% abuse cases in the majority of horse racing barns. Yes there are racehorse abusers but there are also abusers in dressage, western disciplines, and showjumping.

l u c i a You’re joking right? That whole “racehorses get sent to slaughter” propaganda is absolute bullshit. 7% of the horse in kill pens are thoroughbreds. The rest are QHs, drafts, ponies, etc... most TBs get rehomed to be restarted for jumping, dressage, cross country, barrel racing, trails, etc.. and the ones that don’t are used for breeding. I own a 5 year old OTTB, he won absolutely nothing even though he had 4 starts. He was rehomed at 3 to a reputable trainer who restarted him, taught him the basics, and then I got him. You know absolutely jackshit about thoroughbreds.

Tineke, I understand your concern, but these horses don't run at "dangerous speeds". That is shown per the public injury database. Injuries are very closely monitored in racing and the jockey club makes every possible effort to bring down the rate. These horses are treated like royalty. When a horse does get injured EVERY effort is made to save the horse. Barbaro for example, broke down and his owners spent MILLIONS trying to save him before ultimately making the decision to euthanize for laminitis (which had nothing to do with racing or the injury, it was something completely different). The Jockey Club does not permit horses to be slaughtered, in fact racehorses are microchipped to prevent going to slaughter.

Megan Proffitt Actually the horses do run at highly dangerous speeds. Horses are not supposed to gallop for that long, let alone at those speeds. 500 race horses die each year, and injuries can rank up to over 1,000 per year. The jockeys can also treat the animals like crap. Yes, some jockeys treat their horses amazingly, but the jockeys have to use wips, which can tear away at the nerves or tissue in the skin, and some other horrible items to make the horses go faster. There are also jockeys who will beat their horses if they don't win. Some of the baby horses they use are barely finished developing by the time they start racing. Sadly the racing world is not as great as it seems on the outside. Even The Jockey Club has its horrible parts to it.

how come all the horses are brown? is it like all racing horses are brown? no, they're not, are they? i used to ride a horse called Bella who was supposed to be a racing horse but couldn't be (i never understood why) but she's uuhhh... she's gone now is all i'll say. :( but anyways she was brown. point is i do horse ride, but not in a professional academy thing or anything. i have my lessons on a farm. but i've always wondered why, in places like this, the horses always are brown.

ErinOcelotl :3 its because Bays and Chestnuts are the most common colour in thoroughbreds. There are grey and black racers around to but just not as common.

@jagodap55855 жыл бұрын
@@jamesburks8954 Well,because horses are pushed to their limits,abused and punished for not being good enough. Whole racing industry is a big hell hole for horses. They kill thousand of them every year,not even counting the ones sent to slaughter. Yes,that's abuse and i'm sick of people saying "it's just a sport". It is not,it's a nightmare for the animals.

Just saying but horse racing is exstreamly cruel for example if the horses aren’t good they sell them to a meat truck and they push the horse way beyond limits and they will abuse the horses if they don’t win
@meganproffitt4246 жыл бұрын
1) Thoroughbreds that are sent to slaughter are sent second hand, anyone selling horses to slaughter directly from the track face a permanent ban and ALL racehorses are microchipped to prevent that from happening plus less than 10% of horses on the slaughter trucks are thoroughbreds 2) Horses are pushed, but they aren't pushed beyond their limits. If they don't want to run, they won't 3) If the horses were abused then they'd be scared of humans making them unsafe to handle. Racehorses love people, I've worked with them, they're giant cuddle bugs.
@ella-pc4vm6 жыл бұрын
Hanna Mossberg just because it didn’t happen to all horses doesn’t make a difference to the horses who did go through slaughter
@meganproffitt4246 жыл бұрын
Maybe it doesn't, but again. TBs sent to slaughter are sent second hand.

Hanna Mossberg u really just don’t get it. It’s worse than most rodeos. It happens to most of the horses and it is a extremely cruel sport actually do u see how hard they constantly whip there horses during the race!? And did u know most horses in races are sold to meat trucks so just stop bitch
@hannamossberg20056 жыл бұрын
Hi Hi [] Just bc u call me bitch it doesn't make ur arguments better And u just used the same argument twice Do u have *any* excperience with horse racing? Otherwise u can't know 4 sure And *what* ecxactly makes the sport worse than any other animal abuse? Also, it completly depends on the country
