Good video ben,as an Irish man I'm not too familiar with Roy shaw or Lenny McLean, I've read the guvnor book and watched videos of Roy and Lenny,s fights, myself personally I've had many a street fight and saw some terrible wrong doings both on the streets and in jail, but I've always respected old school propper lads who had morales,I hate to hear of men who could use their fists and have a straitner pick up a weapon and stick it in another man, as u said ben we must be mindfull and respectfull to families who have list loved ones to crimes with weapons, having said that yes most definitely those men were definitely well able, as always ben best wishes regards Jay 👍

It does seem that many people in the know back then seem to rate Cliff Fields from Dunstable as one of the toughest.

All hard men in their own right without a shadow. But when you come across a man like Paul Sykes, a man who was fitter and stronger by far helps in abundance. He was a pro boxer, a bare knuckle fighter and an all round raving lunatic. Put the 3 together and that makes for an unstoppable mean machine. Personally I can’t see anyone beating Sykes when he was in his prime. Jamie Boyle will probably tell you more as he did some books. For me the documentary’s and books are Bartley Gorman and Paul Sykes. Their story are top notch. Thanks for sharing.

@@theduke8362 I doubt it would have been any different in the street. Richard Dunn and Cliff Fields likely wouldn't have gone any different than how it did in the ring too. A British boxer that I'd put against anyone out the ring would have been Mark Potter, heavy hands and also got MMA experience to go along with the boxing skills.

Apparently, in Lennys book,in his prime, Shaw was a good boxer, he had a fight or exhibition fight, can't remember...And Shaw made a good account of himself , it was close..according to Lenny... Shaw wasn't in his prime when he fought Lenny..

Shaw was an ex pro middleweight. Wouldn’t go as far as to say he was a “shit boxer”…just not good enough to beat some of the better pros..who he fought in his 40s in unlicensed fights!

Paul Sykes knocked him out twice in Hull Prison. With ease both times as well as the story goes. Sykes was also in a Pub once in Wakefield and saw Britains Hardest Bastards on the TV, it was an episode on Roy Shaw. Sykes apparently kicked off and said how’s he on there and I’m on not, I did him twice in the nick

@@enquirer2.0 the story of Sykes KO’ing Shaw within 15 seconds is in Goal Hawkes book - Forged in Sheffield. He asked Roy Shaw and he said Sykes was just too big for him to deal with. And the story of Paul in the Pub confirming is from the book - Unfinished Agony I believe. I know Sykes mentioned Shaw in his documentary so I don’t think there was bad blood afterwards, mutual respect between two proper hardmen
