Oh Dear! the original door frame had drain holes in the top of the bottom frame - let's hope it has not dropped down the hole! But because you waxed the inside of the door real good, then there is a chance the screw is stuck in the wax - you did wax it right? Use Loctite when replacing Mike

you mentioned that sometimes the screws come loose on the back of the barrel, this happens relatively frequently on mine, was wondering if you had any tips to stop this happening, it got to the stage where when I pulled up at work one dark and dismal morning the barrel fell out as I locked up, resulting in me crawling around on my hands and knees looking for it.

You need to get the door card off - not impossible on a locked door - once in you can trigger the latch

Have you any suggestions to improve door-locking security in general, without opting for the Aluminium type handles ('92, 90 200Tdi pickup)? Having seen you simply knock-out the lock in another video, I wondered if there was either any better door-locks or alternative deadlocks available?

Puma I'm working on has three different keys, one for driver's and ignition, another for the passenger side that you have to apply just the right amount of pressure toward the door to unlock, and yet another for the rear where the barrel randomly jams exactly halfway. Would love to understand the mindset of the monkey that worked on them last.

Hi Pal, great video, can you do one on removing ignition barrel from an old army land rover series 3 with no key, please
@BritannicaRestorations2 жыл бұрын
I used to destroy the old barrel by progressively drilling out the old barrel about 1 cm deep, until it got to a point the guts used to fall out - then remove the guts with a pick until the old barrel will turn - then you can turn the barrel until the wee hole lines up for the push pin that is in the barrel (you will see this on your new barrel) - push the pin down and extract the old barrel The other way is to hammer a screwdriver in and shear the barrel off, but you can cause more damage You cannot save the old barrel - not unless you take it to a lock smith which will cost as much as a whole assembly

It's been a long time since I played with a Td5 - not many here, but I had an idea they were the same - I will have to check
@BritannicaRestorations5 жыл бұрын
Had a look and they do not have the screw on the Td5 but a star-lock washer like below ever-hardware.com/starlock-washer-push-clips-metric-shaft.html which is a good thing as the screws come lose To get the barrel out I believe you have to remove the star-lock, which means removing the handle - BUT the screws holding the handle on sometimes are a bugger to get out and you end up replacing the handle! You cannot change the barrel in the gas cap - for the rear lock, there is a small hole in the tube that holds the lock in - there are some pictures here and instructions www.landyzone.co.uk/land-rover/rear-door-lock-removal.171548/ Mike
