Hey Mike, a suggestion for you video prsentation, would a wide angle lens help in portraing the overall presentation.. Magic video

The problem with wide angle is you have to get so close to see any detail and there is no room to work - tried it already

Great video as ever Mike. I have a lot of play and the not unusual clunk in the front flange. With the diff locked the flange rotates by more than an inch and a half (40mm) which I think is excessive. What is the likely culprit ? Trying to decide on refurb or an ashcroft replacement _Brexit makes the latter a lot more expensive for Ireland:( Thanks for any suggestions.

Hi, thanks for the video. I'm currently replacing an ashcroft HD rear output shaft to my LT230, and noticed that one of the speedo drive gear face has grooves but the other doesn't. Could you pls tell me which face should be toward the bearing and which face should be toward the main transfer case body?. Thanks in advance.

I have noticed the groove goes towards the face of the flange

@@BritannicaRestorations thanks for the reply. Do you know the reason why the groove goes to the flange side? I've put it wrong way with the groove facing main casing, but the green plastic gear seems to spin OK.

It makes no difference - the drive will work in any direction - don't worry

Mike. Now know why my transfer level moves each time the Rangie drives off ! The LT230T feeler gap must be huge ? V.

Mike, just a question, I'm nearly finished my rebuild but I'm having issues with the o ring in the case for the intermediate shaft. There are loads of o rings in the rebuild kit, the only one that looks anywhere near seems too small for the groove. When I push the shaft in it either pushes it out or chops it in half. Is it supposed to be that loose? Thanks Paul

The part you need is FRC7439 I do not have the dimensions on hand but maybe you could google it, but I never have a problem fitting them The shaft has 2 O rings - the larger one goes on the large end of the shaft - the one that goes in the case should be a snug fit on the shaft

Mike What is the difference between the auto and manual LT230? I can get a used one of an auto for £100 which i can use to overhaul, supposed to be in good condition but buyer beware and all. Id like to get it ready to swap straight in with no faffing about swapinv bits between boxes. Also it has no difflock fitted, is it possible or even economic to change it to difflock enabled? Thanks Paul

Sounds to me like you have been offered a Borg Warner transfer case from a Range Rover with a viscous coupling - not exactly a straight swap

Then it will fit BUT there is no speedo drive take off so you have to swap the old one, and you will have to remove the interlocks - as for the diff lock - not sure as the early D2 had a diff lock, then they fitted the diff lock but with no linkage, then did away with them, then on the last D2 re fitted the Diff lock

@@BritannicaRestorations Mike Found another that is off a manual v8 that has difflock that may be a better option even though its more expensive. Had a proper look round mine and it doesn't look like i have difflock, though i may be lucky but turns out i wasnt!
