The only time I've ever had a problem with the LT230 is when I bought a Disco I, and when I checked all the oil bits, I skipped the transfer case because I could see that it had very recently had the cover off, been cleaned, and had a new seal closing it all up. I should have checked.... Because when they put it all back together, they did clean and replace the seals, but neglected to put new oil in. I drove it for about 500 miles before it started locking up at speed! Violent jerking, bad noise, then OK, then violent buck, then OK..... Ripped the thing apart.

300 Tdi Defenders had the thin hubs and flanges too. I'm pretty sure 90s had the same axles as Discoverys of that age, and 110s the same front axle (save for bigger brakes).

@@BritannicaRestorations Bonjour From Europe and Brexit ... I sorted out the pull to the right when braking... was from the wheel alingment and from the rear axel allingment. Now drives and brakes straight. Thanks for your videos. You have only likes 👍🏻

HA! Saw this 90 on a trailer heading east on the 401 Saturday afternoon somewhere between Kingston and Brockville around 2:30. Wondered who's it was and where is was going. And now I know. My 110 looked like that when it came out of Suffield too.

The steering wheel is on the wrong side , that is the problem? Cheers from Australia the land were D1s outperform toymotors in every respect 300tdi of course
@BritannicaRestorations5 жыл бұрын
It's such a shame the D1's rotted out here and we never got the Tdi's
@randomoldbloke5 жыл бұрын
No problem with rot here , not a speck of rust in mine except for where some paint has been blasted off the chassis from dirt roads and it is just surface rust , no overheating even in 45c plus temperatures working hard . Had to do the head at 260k still has all the crosshatching on the bore and no measurable wear plus get better than 10l/100k 16 in low range . Have had a lot of land rovers over the years and the 300tdi has to be the best of them especially for remote travel. No electric gremlins unlike the td5 and later . You have just got a sub from me in FNQ Australia were winter lasts 3 weeks

That reminds me I've a 1.2 ratio disco tbox sitting around I've to put in the 110.. Anyone much experience with the before/after from 1.4 to 1.2 tbox in a 300tdi?? I'm sure it's slower to get through gears but I've a modified tdi and I'm sure the block came off a disco automatic so it could have more horses from factory too
@BritannicaRestorations5 жыл бұрын
Bit of a tricky one The 1:2 transfer is good in a 300Tdi 90 and Td5 90/110, but personally I think they are a bit too high for a 300Tdi 110 with a load on Depends what you want to do with it- speed, power, economy? Mike

@davidyeates55255 жыл бұрын
@@BritannicaRestorations I think you are spot on Mike. I have a 1.2 in my 300tdi 110 (no engine mods), big benefit is the general economy and motorway use, but day to day it can make it feel sluggish getting up through the gears especially when loaded up. Maybe ok if using boost pins or tweaked pump etc. But if or when the time comes I fancy changing it back. I have a standard 90 td5 to compare, the 300tdi is a 200k+ tired old thing but just doesn't have the guts that the td5 has.
