This was my father’s favourite episode of Fawlty Towers. He was a ten year old German boy when the war ended. Whenever we had our German relatives over, visiting us in Canada, Dad would pop in the video cassette of this episode, telling them “You’re going to love this.” He was right.

It was removed from the platform that has/had the rights to stream _"Fawlty Towers",_ because of the Major using the s.c. _"n-word" a couple times._ Such silly times we live in. The episode finally did get restored but with a disclaimer. I think that _"Little Britain"_ suffered the same fate. But instead of just removing a single episode, the whole show was removed. Stand-up seems to be the only niche left were comedy is still sort of free from wokeism.

it was temporary. they catered to the bureaucrats and the public outcry was too great. teach comedy to your children and your children's children and their friends before its too late. brainless evangelists and wahibists are evangelical in their actions. we need to be evangelical with all cultural treasures as well. start with watching classics through DVD or KZbin and boycott Netflix.

I once met a German couple at my local train station, who were going to London, and we got talking to each other. When the conversation turned to entertainment, they mentioned how they thought British TV was better than German TV. Noting this opinion, I took the opportunity to say "Don't mention the war", and they both started roaring with laughter. So much for Germans having no sense of humour.

Comedy really does bring people together. My birth mother's family actually fled Poland during the war so I find this hilarious. My adoptive mother introduced me to this show and this was the first episode I watched because it caught my eye while I was walking around the house. I was laughing so hard I was crying though I didn't get the Poland joke until I started paying attention in history.

You know what makes this so hilariously funny? Is just how real those Germans are. Everyone else in this show is a complete over-the-top cartoonish caricature, but these Germans aren't acting over-the-top, or like comedians, or anything like that. They're acting like real people would. It's like a group of four totally normal people accidentally wandered into a comedy sketch hahaha
@hoodatdondar26644 ай бұрын
That is true. And it is just how they acted then. They could not get angry, because it would seem like defending the old regime, so they acted like someone had done an indecent thing in public. Whoever wrote this had been there.

Yeah, the Germans did indeed changed many street names after WW2 and that’s why you don’t walk on Adolf Hitler-Platz or Adolf Hitler Strasse. They removed those names, and indeed, amazingly, nobody has forgotten who Adolf Hitler was! It’s all about the difference between remembering a person or event or celebrating it. In Spain, many streets with the names of Franco’s top men were changed, though many remained. In any case, if remembrance is the goal, fucking street names aren’t going to change anything. I doubt you know who even a fifth of the people whose names are near where you live, and if you do, I doubt you know them because of the street name. I live in Madrid, and some years ago the left-leaning Mayor changed quite a lot of street names. Names like General Mola, the general who started the coup that brought the civil war, or Calvo Sotelo, who elaborated the “constitution” in place during Antonio de Rivera’s dictatorship, or Primero de Octubre, the date that Franco was named chief of State. There was quite a bit of controversy about it, and disagreement about whether names like Augustín de Foxá, who wrote the Falange’s himn but was also an author, should be removed. Nobody has forgotten this historical stuff by the way. We study these people in school. We know the date Franco was made head of State. I’m not saying there shouldn’t be a debate around which street names to change or which statues to remove, but this idea that changing street names is bad and something the commies and SJWs do to stop people remembering their history is how you end up walking down “Adolf Hitler-Platz” or “Calle General Mola” or other pretty questionable types that should by all means be remembered, but not celebrated by having their own street signs. Do you also feel the same about Poland changing street names because of de-communisation or are those perfectly fine because it’s not the commies who are doing it?

@@paris5410 Argument "ad Hitlerum" at its glory. Eristic at master level indeed. We are not talking about mass murderers. We are talking about situation when somene is being erased for not being crystal clear according to the latest edition of PC-rules. "1984" supposed to be a warning not a guidebook for a cancel-culture. And FYI: we have change many "de-communised" names od places BACK to their "communist" patrons. Because they were people who deseved it, despite their membership in communist party they did enough good things. Or people simply get used to them and some historical controversies are not worth turning their life upside down.
