Massive rabbit Ralph tips the scales at over three stones and costs the owner over £25 pounds a week to feed. When Pauline Grant was after a pet rabbit for her grandchildren she never expected it to munch his way through as much food as it does each week.
She didn’t realise that the rabbit was a Continental Giant rabbit until she took him to the vets, and they asked her why she had brought that particular breed.
Ralph is a year and a half old and is over three foot. He weighs in at a hefty three stone plus. His favourite foods are Weetabix, water biscuits, apples, carrots with their tops still on, cabbages, toast, sweet corn and not forgetting a huge bowl of rabbit food.
Ralph is safe from any cutbacks in his diet even if his owners never imagined they’d be spending over £100 a month on a rabbit.
Luckily for Mrs Grant, Ralph is getting pretty well known in the local area and as a result neighbours and friends sometimes donate food for him. He now lives in a cage with access to a cellar where originally the Rottweiler dogs were housed.
Mrs Grant has recently learnt that Ralph's is not the largest rabbit in the World, although it appears big is in their blood - his stepbrother “Darius” who lives in Worcester is the current titleholder.

No wonder he's aggressive, I would be too! He's a single bunny, living in a dark cellar, no bedding, I don't see any hay and he's being carried when he absolutely doesn't want to! That's animal abuse and I don't think it's a good idea to post such a video without making sure that people watching know that that's NOT the proper care for a bunny whatsoever!

I have a rabbit. He is so well behaved. I live alone, and I don't work, it is just me and him. Rabbits have a strong need for companionship. An only rabbit is a lonely rabbit, therefore, the owner has to be that forever companion for him/her. We cuddle all the time. If I have to go out he comes with me in my car, or even in my push along trolley. He has his own little bed set up next to mine. I also have a rabbit lead/harness and I take him for walks. I really feel sad for that rabbit.

I agree. They are social animals. Like the rabbits in "Watership Down," which is the species from whom our domestic rabbits are descended, they are wired for living in social groups with lots of companionship. I think maybe Ralph is lonely. Maybe another rabbit companion would be good for him. I like to keep my bunnies in pairs or trios.

To those who keep talking about him being neutered as if it will solve most problems, she said in the video that he was taken to the vet to be neutered. Spaying/neutering does not always take aggression out of a rabbit. I completely agree that hay (and a lot of it) needs to replace a lot of what he is being fed. However, I also see her dong her best to do right by this gorgeous lad. She may not have all the facts, but it is pretty clear that she cares about this bun.

@@TheCaptainSplatter It's probably because she would insist on carrying him, improperly, but it might be because he would kick at her otherwise. Bunies usually don't like being caried. And since he probably does not spend much time with people, but rather in the cellar or the cage he's likely not socialized. I doubt bare floor is such a great issue i haven't seen a bunny that would mind that much. I see no hay anywhere and those poops look tiny relative to size of the bun, so he may well be grumpy because he gets digestive issues.

@@jakeornot6306 Rabbits need mental stimulation and attention. They like different toys and variety. I try to give my bunny a new toy or activity every week to a month and I often rotate out his older toys he can revisit later. If you want an animal that will just sit around and do nothing except sleep, a rabbit is NOT the animal for you and that's exactly what she thought she was getting when she wanted an animal that the kids could interact with when they visited. Rabbits are closer to dogs than any other animal. They need daily care and attention and access to toys 24 hours of the day, otherwise they will get frustrated. It is a myth that rabbits can be left in a small hutch to vegetate until you decide to play with them.

So I spend a lot of time outside but he hops in and out even though it's not recommended I can't stop him all the time they say it's because of the temperature change. At spring and summer he walks in home at night he sleeps outside.. And when it's very hot he stays in the shower for the most part because it's the coldest spot. I wish I could take him inside in wintertime everytime I'm home because I'm home enough of the time. Put him outside when I'm going to sleep or go to work. He has a great outdoor pen

What I did for my bunny, when he was inside, I had a medium metal dog cage for him with lots of hay, a chewy rabbit toy ball, a little rabbit salt block and his necessities, like water bottles food pellets, lettuce and clover. I had to make him a bigger cage because he was mixed with elephantism, so he got big fast. I had to move him outside because I thought he would be happier with the real thing, instead of just a window view. I made him a huge wooden cage with goat cage sides, and shudders that would close all but one side so he would be warmer in the winter months. He loved it, but unfortunately someone let him out of his pin, and he was ate by a coyote.. Rip Yin

let's just call this what it is: animal abuse. no attempt to satisfy the animal's needs, no understanding of their behaviour, no socialization, just captive in a concrete cube. of course he's aggressive. I have two rescues and have had three shop bought buns, they have as much personality and logic as dogs, as much loyalty and as much need for their own kind. I'm not a perfect bunny owner, but I always try and give them what they need, give them treats and give them new toys and experiences and give them an appropriate diet: at the minimum. this owner doesn't have a clue about rabbits.

I have to join in with all the other comments and say that I am quite worried for this rabbit. Clearly this owner has no idea what she is doing, She's feeding him food that isn't suitable like corn and way to many carrots in my opinion. Not to mention that there is no hay to be seen huge no no!!!!!! The other things that is upsetting to see is Ralph being on concrete! I tell ya that rabbit is gonna have sore hocks in no time cuz of that floor. So all in all there is sadly, room for much improvement. Is anyone else really wish they could save Ralph?

I have two Conti’s, there are a few things wrong here. 1) They don’t like to be alone 2) They don’t like being picked up and when they have to picked up they need to be supported (arm under length of belly) 3) That’s far too much fresh food, yes they require it but natural sugars in veg can cause digestive issues 4) the hard surface of the cellar although good for claw maintenance is not comfortable for them to lay on and need proper bedding. 5) being outside alone is not good for stimulation 6) My opinion they should be allowed to live inside with access to outside, although the damage they can do is frustrating 😅 they are part of the family

Lady feed him hay!! I saw where he is and it looks dismal he needs hay and chews like sticks nd stuff to keep him busy and happy and he might not bite you if you did those things for him??

He is costing a fortune to feed because he has no access to fresh grass or hay which should make up most of his diet,he is probably aggressive because of his living arrangements,he has no soft bed or toys to keep him happy he would really benefit with having a friend, you really should have researched before getting a rabbit

You are sitting in the garden enjoying sunshine, what about your pet? Try and swap place s with him, see how you like it!

Beggars belief that someone would keep a rabbit in a damned cold dark concrete cellar! You gotta question the mentality and intellect of the owner.

Is he neutered? He possibly bites because of that. But if you could put him up in a place with you, would be good. It's true they destroy stuff to some degree, but you can work around it. I didn't, and my place is destroyed. But I could have been more proactive. It's just I don't think they asked for that life.

She said she didnt know what she was buying, she just randomly bought a rabbit, got it home, and it started growing super big. Personally i think the mad bitch should rehome it.

It’s clear that she didn’t knows nothing about rabbits. She needs to understand that dogs and rabbits are different and they aren’t as easy to train. He needs a companion and a carpet at the very least. This is why you do at least some research before getting a pet
