Awesome! So I can transfer the key from THIS machine (which I built using a *retail* version of Win11 Home) to the _new_ Windows PC I'm building (which is taking this one's place on my desk.) I'll then have a *spare* copy of Win11 Home (that I already purchased for the new build mentioned above) that I can use on _another_ upcoming PC that I'll be putting together for my daughter. Unless you purchased Win10 Retail for that laptop about $120-$200 CDN, it will probably be OEM from the laptop manufacturer

@@GregM I did. It’s an old Dell Latitude my brother gave to me. I tore it to pieces, cleaned the cooler, replaced the standby battery, put an SSD in it and bought new RAM (maxed it out) and got new battery for it and a docking station. I bought Win10 for it from Microsoft and it’s been my EEPROM and GAL programmer for 4 years now. I’m thinking of getting an HP laptop and putting all my eggs in that basket and retiring the Dell. It’s been a solid machine, so I’m still on the decision train.

Nice one Brian mate as I have always had issues with Windows licences they seem to me to be quite and overtly convoluted. Now I had an issue with the licence on my main laptop when I upgraded to Windows 11 Pro from 10 Pro and it took a logmein session with a Microsoft technician to get my copy reactivated and he has left me with that generic licence not that it bothers me as long as the darn system works. CD Sales I have also used their site to activate an old laptop for my granddaughter and if it comes to it I shall use it again to activate my own main laptop so thanks for that heads up. My tip for anyone interested command prompt and regedit features I keep pinned to my taskbar as it saves so much time as I use them quite a bit😉

Here's a tip, Massgravel can permanently activate Windows and Office for free. Ironically, one of the repositories it's hosted on is owned by Microsoft.

Hi Brian - A timely video having built a new pc and earlier this week. I used your discount code to obtain an OEM licence key. Anyone know why my HP laptop (OEM key) reports (via Windows Script Host): Description: Windows(R)Operating system, RETAIL channel? So do two other (OEM key) Lenovo desktops all have identical 25 digit keys. Despite the "RETAIL" I am not expecting the licences to be transferrable. Is it correct to assume the identical 25 digit keys are just an identifier of holding the digital licence which is allocated following activation. Microsoft presumably then recognising activation from records they they hold of the hardware?

On one of my laptops it says Licensed RTB Professional Volume MAK and MAK count: 19.

Is it a business laptop? Volume MAK keys are normally for business use, unless you used KMS activation

You can try enter the Win10 Pro in Win11 activiation screen. It could simply upgrade the existing Win11 Home to Win11 Pro. You already have the key in the email.

That's why you shouldn't buy from third-party key resellers. You can permanently activate any edition of Windows for free anyway.
