Thanks for this vital information Brian. I can't really believe what M$ have actually done here. There are huge security implications that come with this brainless M$ decision. Here's the scenario: If you are happily signed in to your OWN pc using your M$ account as your log-in, and accidentally sign in to your M$ account on a public computer. This is the no-brainer part: If somebody is quick enough to log in to that public computer after you, and can access your M$ account, they could potentially change your log-in details and password for your M$ account. Correct me if I'm wrong, but when you return to your OWN pc and try to log in to Windows itself, because you are signed into Windows with your M$ account as your log-in you will be denied ACCESS to your OWN pc because your M$ account password has been changed (by someone else). Good luck trying to retrieve your own pc from this disaster. This is a shambles Microsoft, you bell ends. I'm fizzing with contempt for M$ (more than usual I would say). Cheers! Mark.

@@Britec09 I'm fortunate that I never ever use my M$ account for anything other than linking a new Windows OEM key to my account. Just in case I ever need to retrieve it for a re-installation. As I use Macrium for imaging though I've never had to yet. I use Thunderbird to pickup my hotmail and would never log in to any M$ site with my M$ account on any device. This is unfortunately going to catch out an awful lot of unsuspecting people. It's a hacker's dream. They don't even have to do anything to compromise someone's account, no special knowledge or software required, M$ are just handing it to them on a plate. Unacceptable 😠

So they're just doing the same thing as Google and others and putting the onus on the end user to be responsible with their account...Putting the onus on the end user for ANYTHING never ends well. That's why Microsoft started forcing Windows Updates because end users have proven time and time again they won't take basic care of themselves online. Signing into services is often seen as a chore by many end users when MFA is enabled (even IT people can still get annoyed by MFA prompts). These people who don't like going through MFA for every login aren't going to be thinking about signing out of their personal (or work) accounts on the go. Also, given how Microsoft enables services like OneDrive by default, this has the potential to be a real disaster for people's personal data.

In contrary, at work I am annoyed that I periodically need to pull out my phone to sign into the MS account in my secured profile used by me only in any work computer. I hope this will end. It came a bit late though as I am on the way out of this organisation and once that happens, all my home computers will be Linux. The Win11 installations on a usb or in a VM have the MS accounts sidelined and degraded to a standard user level, functioning from the local accounts exclusively. Average Joes will see their accounts compromised in every day lives. My colleague who said has 6 passwords and he rotates them between various accounts, signed himself in a google account in a common work account from which we all operate in that particular computer, he never signed out of there. I could spy on him but I am not bothered LOL.
