😢 As a 70yo _non_ -flying English woman, who has never even been _on_ an aeroplane, my thoughts, my fears - especially through watching such videos as this - are immense, plus my sorrow for all who suffer and die as a consequence of these accidents. My heartfelt condolences to everyone who has been involved in any of these horrendous incidents. I simply _cannot_ imagine how anyone could survive, even if they got away from the planes, initially ...as has already been commented, burns etc.... Serious smoke inhalation, the sheer shock of such awful occurrences... It's beyond imaginings. 😢💔😢💔😢💔 ...Rest In Peace...

Around 32 minutes...eerie to see how this man said the exact words to describe that doomed Saudia flight (I believe 163). Hundreds of people. Landed successfully, albeit on fire. Every single person only leaving in a body bag. It is truly tragic.

The Air Canada disaster just blows my mind. There was no regulation requiring the captain to bring the plane down immediately.......yet the flight attendant discharged a fire extinguisher hoping to resolve whatever it was causing the smoke???? Damn! If a fire extinguisher is discharged, or if there is a suggestion on board the aircraft that a fire extinguisher might be needed, the plane needs to be brought down IMMEDIATELY. Which is the rule of today, but common sense should've brought that Air Canada flight down to land much sooner. Never assume that any mechanical issue is resolved aboard an aircraft at 35,000ft.

Not having smoke hoods because they take time to put on makes no sense; Most fires on planes starts while it's still in the air. The hoods can be put on while still in the seats. It's not like passengers have better things to do, than buying themselves more time, while the pilots gets them down. Also there will be a few moments between the plane landing and comming to a complete stop. Seconds where its not yet safe to get out of the seats, but being in a brace position are no longer needed. Sounds like a perfect time to put on a smoke hood if they haven't already. To me this sounds like a classic case of money vs safety. The cost of putting smoke hoods on every plane is not worth the lives saved from the Industries point of view- the lack of them won't make people refuse to fly with the airline, thereby hurting their bottom line.

The guy who stated that “it’s all about speed.“ Probably shouldn’t be allowed to have his job. Yes getting out fast is good. But what might work in a controlled laboratory environment with people who know what’s about to happen in the test is one thing. But when you have a plain load of regular citizens, all of which coming from various walks of life and various mental states. We don’t know what people do or we do in a high stress situation. Some people panic, others frees up some stay calm. Some people become extremely violent literally to the point where they don’t care about the safety of others. They simply put their own safety ahead of everybody else. Trying to get out of the plane fast is definitely a good thing, but not to the point where you could potentially cause injury and death. I think having the Hood is a much better idea. I used to be a firefighter and firefighting relies heavily on speed, but also on kind of like a balancing act between speed and survivability. The five seconds it could take to just simply slip a hood over your head in my mind is no different than the seconds that it takes for a person to put their emergency life vest on. I think the main reason here why Smok hoods are not being adopted is simply due to one thing. Money. The airlines don’t want to pay to have all of their aircraft installed with this extra piece of equipment. And this is not new. Earlier in the days of air travel , there were aircraft where they didn’t even like the idea of putting flotation devices in them. The same could be for other types of safety equipment, and such. As bad as this is going to sound in the eyes of many different aviation companies and such, they are probably thinking that it is much less expensive to deal with a dead person than it is a living person who may very well suffer injury, be at physical or psychological. Just like everything else in the world in the end, it all boils down to money. And unfortunately, it’s going to take the loss of a much larger aircraft like a 747 or one of those new double-decker airbus planes or something similar to have a massive disaster before any kind of measure is going to be taken. It’s unfortunate but sadly this always seems to be the case. There’s a saying in the world. Safety regulations are written in blood.

I found a smoke mask online that looks exactly like the smoke masks in this video. I take it with me every time I have to fly which isn’t that often but no one knows when something like this will happen. The big wheels that make these decisions won’t do anything positive for the passengers until it happens to one of their family members, someone they love . SAD. As usual it’s all about money, it cost too much. I would rather pay a couple of dollars extra foera ticket if airlines would use the fuel that doesn’t explode like dynamite.
@genebohannon8820

Jet fuel is kerosene and is not explosive. It take a lot of heat to get it to burn as a liquid. If vaporized by a turbine engine it will ignite or by burning/liquefied metal.

Because of the weight of the water/flame retardant. Also it would mostly be futile. Water can't put out a fuel fire. Foam can but you can't carry enough on the plane to be useful. You can't use halon because that removes oxygen from the air and that would kill the passengers as fast as the fire.

dont say it is stupid,there is a reason US bought over 50,000 of them for their military personnel and why over 300 private jet companies bought them too. A life jacket which is mandatory for all flights would probably take more time to wear than a smoke hood which would take seconds. Experts have said it can add more minutes in high toxic fumes and gases environment which kill more people faster

Why would a combustion can explode? It has air coming into it, it has air inside it being being burned, it has cooling air all around it and all of this air is travelling from front to rear.

Repeated stressing of heated and super cooled metal which causes fatigue cracking which they didn’t properly repair or replace sadly if I recall the cause of that exploding.

@@johnnunn8688 it ruptured which made it break up after and that would be considered exploding to them from what I remember from other videos of that accident.

@@johnnunn8688 fair enough but I am just retelling what I looked up and was told. I don’t know nearly enough about aircraft parts to give you a specific or concrete answer to help you understand. I said it ruptured due to fatigue cracking and once it ruptured it can mimic an explosion due to the lack of pressure inside of it like a can of soda under pressure being popped open,Just more extreme in this case and it would be leaking fuel which would catch fire and create mini explosions in the can from the fresh air flow mixing with the fuel and extreme heat.

HALIFAX HAS LONG RUNWAYS (IT'S CIVILIAN / MILITARY) AND THE PLANE COULD HAVE CRASH LANDED AND EVERYONE ESCAPED. ALL THOSE DEAD JUST SO PEOPLE COULD WATCH MOVIES! PEGGY'S COVE IS A BEAUTIFUL AREA AND THE BIRTH PLACE OF SINGER ANNE Murray (78 in 2024). STILL IT'S BETTER THAN AMERICAN - THEY HAD THE LARGE SCREENS ON WHEN THEY CRASHED.

rcallieham yes I recognized that as well, unfortunately it seems he did not make it out, overcome by toxic fumes, as many as the other passengers. So unfortunate, they did abort the takeoff, then all went terribly wrong.
