just me now, but I believe the unspoken long-term plan would be to reduce to a small but capable National Defence Force as in Sweden, Switzerland etc. Hey, I HATE this but with cuts and so on plus the Fact that it was on the table to amalgamate the RAF into the Army Air Corps.......? Just makes me think, wonder and - frankly Despair! In Britain our forces have traditionally been like a guard dog in that we're neglected and forgot until needed and then.... GOOD BOYS.....OUR BOYS etc. National Safety, Pride and Military Superiority is now taken Totally for granted except by those closely associated with it, and the Proud tradition of Service and Sacrifice (even Ultimately) seems largely - and sadly - forgotten.

Yeah, I heard those new German carriers are coming along really well and... Oh wait, yeah. Germany and Britain are some of the closest allies around, that's what tends to happen when you help the Germans in deterring Soviet aggression for almost 50 years in the Rhine are and in return get to use the place to train with gratitude to the Germans. Grow up a little. This isn't WW2.

Glad to see the British airborne doesn't jump through a hole in floor of the plane like they did in WW2. Weird way to exit the aircraft.
@ZolaMagic25
@ZolaMagic25 9 жыл бұрын
J High That's because the aircraft they were jumping out of were old bombers that had to be converted... At first they removed the rear gun turrets and jumped from the back but it was dangerous. Then they tried cutting a hole in the floor but that was also dangerous. Eventually they just cut a door in the side of the plane.
@ivanlowjones
@ivanlowjones 9 жыл бұрын
ZolaMagic25 I suppose that was easier than just using Douglas C-47's like we did. I'm sure the Brits could've acquired them through Lend-Lease.

Perhaps but we weren't waiting around for the Americans to join the party.
@ivanlowjones
@ivanlowjones 9 жыл бұрын
ZolaMagic25 What party would that be? Perhaps you should take a WW2 history review class, mate. I'm pretty sure British and American Airborne forces were activated around the same times. American airborne troops actually made their first small unit assault in North Africa in 1942. Larger airborne drops occurred in Sicily and Italy in 1943. The glory days of airborne operations took place in 1944 with combat drops in Southern France, Normandy, and Holland. We even had airborne units jump in the Pacific theater as well into New Guinea and the Philippines. Our last major drop was into Germany in 1945. I'm not sure what party our Airborne forces were late for. My original post was regarding your militarys current use of American built transport aircraft as an improvement over the WW2 delivery method of squeezing through a hole in the floor of the plane. I spent 3 years as a paratrooper in the US Army 82nd Airborne Division (perhaps you've heard of this unit), and I respect any airborne soldier from any army. It takes a special breed to jump from an aircraft. I'm also well aware that British and Commonwealth WW2 airborne troops were some of the toughest warriors to ever land on a battlefield.

So apparently I need to be a serving person to quote publically available facts? Facts are facts, mate. There isn't any arguement against that. Facts which I notice you have no response to other than crude language and lack of correct grammar to cover for a lack of knowledge on your part. Unless you can offer any sourced factual statement to back up your statements? And I see you've confirmed your lack of respect for serving members of the REME and medics, rather poor show chap.

In reply to COGgear1000 two months ago, nobody has frozen in the door, if you look carefully you will see they are doing part alternate sticks, at the beginning of that clip the starbord stick only is jumping, the dispatcher then stops the starboard stick and the port stick starts to jump after which those "frozen" paras in the starboard stick will start jumping again. Must have been a long DZ! In my day I remember one descent when they couldnt get both port and starboard sticks, all 60 of us, out quick enough, I still ended up in the trees! That was over Denmark in the early 70's.

Wow they haven't had to be deployed to fight and die is lame. Are you advocating death and war? It's a good thing that they haven't had to jump since then, the whole point of having an armed forces is just in case something happens, not to seek out conflicts.

you could say the same question with 'when has british tanks engaged enemy armour' I would say 2003. Just because a military unit hasn't used what its primarily there for in a while does not make obsolete armies are supposed to be 'ready for anything' and army that isn't I would say is pretty 'lame'
@Retrosicotte
@Retrosicotte 11 жыл бұрын
Congratulations, you just managed to say every person who has ever served in a non frontline role is apparently to be considered real military. She was a driver/mechanic aiding a war in a city that was being perpetually bombed and part of a family that serves more than most. So the medics at Bastion or REME guys who never end up on the front line aren't real military either? I think you need to play less COD and realise how militaries really work, it's a lot more than just a gun going bang.
