Though my last video
• British Airways 777 Lo...
has been well received to date, I was disappointed by the audio of my Panasonic Lumix TZ10 compact camera. It does a great job of recording HD video but the audio is simply not up to capturing the nuances of engine startup and the take-off roll.
So on my most recent Jamaic trip I took along the heavy artillery :) - a much larger Panasonic HDC-HS300 semi pro camcorder with built-in Dolby Digital 5.1 microphone. It does a fantastic job of reproducing the audio - in particular the deep bass of the engine start. For best results I recommend you use headphones or quality speakers.
This flight was flown by aircraft G-VIIP, which is a Boeing 777-236 powered by 2 x General Electric GE90-85B turbofan engines. I flew on the Rolls Royce powered G-YMMR on the way out -
• British Airways 777 - ...
As BA have relaxed their restrictions on the use of portable electronic equipment (other Airlines please take note ...) I was able to capture the complete pushback, engine start, taxi and takeoff into a fantastic sunset.
The climb-out view of Jamaica over the southeast corner, as seen from the left hand side of the aircraft is simply awesome - beats Barbados I'm afraid! The flight was pretty heavily loaded and the take-off on this occasion seemed particularly powerful.
This is the full 2.8Gb raw AVCHD video from my camcorder.
Apologies for the voice that can be heard at the beginning of the video. This was the passenger sitting adjacent to me, who was still on his mobile phone at the beginning of the pushback.

Totally agree, the growl on the GE90-85/90/94B is awesome. Hearing the N1 spin-up to manufacturer design loads and deliver 85,000lbs of thrust, excellent!!!

***** Someone at BA appears to have been listening to you! LOL! If you check out the route tracker on this website: www.thebasource.com You will see that over the last month - 16 of the 19 London Gatwick to Jamaica flights have been operated by "G-VII" series aircraft, which are GE90 powered.

This is why I love KZbin , excellent video sir and thank you for sharing it. The BA pilot is so gutsy to make that left out of Kingston and fly over The Blue Mountains ( 7400 Ft high) , The Americans usually make a right after clearing runway 12 , fly back over Kingston Harbor and fly through the John Crow Mountains to Cuba and then make a slight left over central Cuba to arrive in Miami ....very conservative style but effective.
@2pb
@2pb 8 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the kind words townman1. As far as the flight path is concerned my impression was that this is the standard flight path for London. On my last flight it was rather stormy and the pilot choose not to turn inland, but followed the south east coast along instead.

Thank you for posting the full thing. Never a fan of the edited ones which cut at random points and, god forbid, plaster music over the sounds of the engines..
@2pb
@2pb 8 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the feedback. Most compact cameras have noise reduction technology that result in engine startup and takeoff roll being muted. A medium to high spec camcorder or camera is a must. I'm not a fan of music either - it almost always ruins aircraft videos. I try to capture the complete takeoff except for some of my later videos which suffer from camera overheating.

+coashddjj2 Yes Indeed - nothing beats the take-off view from the left hand side of the aircraft - there is virtually no view on the right hand side. I'm looking forward to revisiting this video later this year with my Sony NEX-5T camera. The NEX-5T produces much better colours in my humble opinion.

@2pb

Stu Shepherd Yes - I'm seated in 4A, which is my favourite seat on the GE-90 777s. It is at the end of the forward cabin and so you don't have to step over your seat-mate's legs when exiting this window seat. It is indeed quite near to the forward galley

***** Sorry for the late reply - just back on my latest holiday. I'm afraid I can't answer your question as all of my flights are on Boeing 777s. BA haven't flown B747s to the Caribbean for over 2 decades now :( On the 777 you can only see the blades of the engines from Club World. Hopefully someone who has flown the B747 can answer your query.

Did you fly to London on BA2262 on Sunday 29th March 2015? If so then you were on the same flight as me! I was hoping to video the flight but unfortunately the aircraft left over an hour late and so it was dark by then. I didn't bother as I've yet to find a camcorder that can cope with a night takeof. I hope you got a seat on the left hand side of the aircraft as there is almost no view on takeoff from the right hand side.

@ns81
@ns81 8 жыл бұрын
Haha here's where I show how much a nerd with how much spare time I am - you're correct that they reduced thrust, but that's climb thrust, which they put into the FMC. The derate has to do with what the engines kick out at TOGA (take off go around) power, so pilots will use methods to "fool" the fmc into thinking it's at TOGA at takeoff, even though the engines aren't at full power. As I understand it, when the "climb" phase of the flight kicks in, the FMC more-or-less starts from "scratch", so the deration doesn't relate. That's why sometimes climb thrust is *greater* than takeoff thrust. Damn I'm a geek;)
