Chieftain was a good tank of its day it lacked mobility its engine was about 700 hps it wasnt powerful enough to carry 55 tons so it broke down a lot Iran was soled an upgrade version with a 1200 hps so it was neglect on mods policy indeed.

@@thecurlew7403 Actually the production of British Army Chieftains had long been completed by the time the RR CV 12 engine was designed and built.Added to which, it wouldn't have fitted the engine bay without a complete redesign of the rear end, which is what the Iranian Chieftain (Shir1) had.

Yes mate, the PC, virtue signalling, "humanitarian aid" army recruitment videos of today are ridiculous. The only job of the British Armed Forces is to defend our country and interests abroad and/or fight alongside Allies against a common enemy........ that's it. I can honestly tell you, speaking from my own experience, NOBODY joins the British Army to primarily be a disaster relief knobber........ NOBODY AT ALL. 🇬🇧✌️

Joined in '66 left in '82. Apart from the BBC voice this was like a trip down memory lane. A question please - At 7.13 what cap badge is that on display please? - Just don't recognize it and in my work I came into contact with most at some time or another.

Wessex but maybe the footage is 60s? My other thought is that all the berets look like they have been slapped on their heads so maybe just props rather than genuine headgear or cap badge? (Perhaps a TA unit?) I was in during the 80s and 90s. Joined 82. Check this Staybrite Wessex Regiment Cap Badge maker JR Gaunt Slider Anodised Aluminium. Looks very similar. In fact I am 100% sure it is a Wessex cap badge. Though the unit did not exist as a regular unit. The Wessex Yeomanry was formed on 1 April 1971.
@carlteacherman1947 ай бұрын
@@dulls8475 It looks very much like the wyvern cap badge of the Wessex Rgt. They have gone through many changes since 1971. HQ company and C company were in Berkshire, Reading and Maidenhead. I think they had a company in Slough at one time as well. Good guys, and shared more than a few beers with them in Brock Barracks.

The badge is Wessex, for a short period in the 50s to 60s all regiments wore the badge of their regional brigade, home counties, wessex, scottish, eastern, midlands etc. Then they went back to the county regimental badge system. The Wessex regt badge was worn by Wessex (TA) infantry units across the southwest, Plymouth, Barnstaple and Exeter but also further east. They were disbanded or amalgamated into the proper county system, they became a Devon and Dorset (TA)unit sometime in the 80s in Devon. I knew a couple of old D and D guys who wore this badge in 1960, the Glosters also wore it, I remember this was still worn by TA guys until about 1984

Much better advert for the British Army than the current WOKE BS adverts. Lots of hardware, explosions and L1A1 SLR *PORN!* It's all here in this video, the only thing missing is a slogan like, " DON'T BE A CIVVY NON-HACKER! JOIN THE PROFESSIONALS AND BLOW THINGS UP!!!" Back in the day when the British Army really had high standards and the lads were tough and mentality resilient. No doubt in my mind that these boys would have knocked seven shades out of Ivan before they went down...........First class soldiers.
