I met Ian Lavender in 2012. What a great bloke. He told a story to a small audience, about him and John le Mesurier going out on the piss in Thetford. He got me to act the part of John...what a treat!

It is great to have a channel devoted to British stars so sadly lost to us. These people made our lives better by entertaining us or by working to protect us through research. May they all rest in peace.

John Savident was an absolute joy to watch and for quite a while, I was hesitantly awaiting for news of his departure. The great British character actors are virtually gone now but at least we've got them on celluloid to watch time and time again and never having to rely on the modern shallow celebrities that pass off for artists today.

I shall always remember John Savident in the 1969 film 'Battle of Britain' where he had a bit part as an RAF officer delivering some good news. However, he really excelled in the 1970 film 'Waterloo' where he played the part of the Prussian liaison officer Karl von Müffling. His sudden, muddied appearance at the Duchess of Richmond's ball🎻 was in complete contrast to the immaculate uniforms worn by Wellington's officers (and rank and file soldiers). 💂♂️🥁🇬🇧
