Just got a British Mk7 with the new MTP cover from Mike's Militaria. Super cool and a great buy! Looks good in my collection.

Hows the bulletproof protection on the Mk 6A? I saw your videon Mk6 and Mk7 but I have no visual reference for how 6A handles.

Hi~ I'm a ROK military soldier I'm using an ACH helmet Received from a USFK friend (XL) Because Korean military helmets are less protective than American helmets Korean military helmet weight about 1.15kg ( Head circumference Large 59~62cm ) 17gr FSP v50 2120 ~ 2213 ft/s under deformation 13mm ammo test NIJ Level 2 only!! Tested at level 3A and dropped at depth over 44mm The helmet is light, but the material is Dyneema, so the dent is too deep. The ROK military equipment is very ironic The plate being supplied is NIJ standard level 3 (front/back plate 10"X12") The personal firearm we use is the K100 (M855) It penetrates cleanly even at 25 meters It penetrates cleanly into 7N10 bullets used by North Korean forces fucking penetrated by enemy bullets also Night vision is only available to the squad leader It's a sad reality

I trialled the experimental version Mk6 in 1975 when I was serving in Northen Irland see my picture
@MikeB1284 жыл бұрын
Your picture is fucking tiny, but cool story.
@Tremulousnut4 жыл бұрын
They adopted a Revision ACH type helmet with Virtus because Source won the contract and was part of the package Source offered. There were other helmets trialed. The MK7 was the way they were because of early comms headsets were just as big. The MK7 was based on the AC900/CTT helmets from the late 90 to early 2000.

6a has Kevlar
@jarvy2515 жыл бұрын
Ridiculously comfortable, the only thing I didn't like was the chinstrap. But if you cut away the x-strap padding on a USMC LWH strap assembly, you can adapt it really easily. Looking forward to the ballistic test!
@Piotwor5 жыл бұрын
Do you have any primary sources for the protection ratings on those helmets? The info I found online is vague and contradictory. I even read that the Mk6a is also made of aramid instead of ballistic nylon.
@sappersteve14434 жыл бұрын
Aramid is Ballistic Nylon. Kevlar is the name of the Company that makes Aramid helmets under licence from ICI which was a British Company that developed Aramid as a bullet proof vest.

Any soldier being deployed on operations regardless of role, will get a virtus. Same with the MK7 post 2012.

Really really eying the mark 7 just waiting on a ballistic test for my own reassurance that it will stop ballistic threats.... unlike the 6

My first helmet was the mk7 but has some writing on it with permanent marker, any advice on cleaning it?
@MikeB1285 жыл бұрын
Yeah, don't. It doesn't hurt the helmet at all, and most will have writing on them.
@britishmilitaria29475 жыл бұрын
The major difference between the mk6 and mk6a is that the mk6a was made from Kevlar and that source is from a ex paratrooper who went to Afghanistan and Iraq he hated the mk6 and mk6a
@joelyboy75 жыл бұрын
There was another helmet that was built in limited quantity, MK7s. it stands for MK7 sniper and was men't to address to problem snipers had as you said, it was cut a little higher at the front and at the back and that's about it. ive only ever seen photos of it and never met a unit that was issued them but they were a thing for a little wile.
@mutelatedLEMON5 жыл бұрын
Almost right but just a little bit off with some points so here we go, I joined the reserves (Also a REMF) about 2 years ago and got issued a Mk7 but some people i met in basic got the virtus batlskin cobra helmet and now as far as im aware now everyone gets the viurtus's cobra helmet. I cant see us whove already been issued a helmet getting a new one anytime soon as most older people in my troop still have the 6A haha
@willpartridge68994 жыл бұрын
The MK6a was a MK6 mould in Kevlar, not just more ballistic nylon
@MikeB1284 жыл бұрын
Yeah that's what I thought too, I told Devin he might be wrong on that.
@willpartridge68994 жыл бұрын
Mike B I could be wrong also, however I’ve heard that several times, Including from someone who wore them
@interstellartravel461 Жыл бұрын
I can confirm the Mk6A helmet is made of kevlar / aramid. I was originally issued a Mk6 (ballistic nylon) and currently own a well-worn Mk6a as a civillian. When the Mk6 is scratched or chipped, you would see that the colour of the material remains green with a uniform material structure (almost as though it is injection moulded). When the Mk6A is scratched or chipped you will see a gold or yellowish colour under the matte black paint, with sandwhich layering visible at the rim, a tell-tale sign of kevlar / aramid material.

My mk7 was a heck of a lot more comfortable than virtus and I find the hard Styrofoam liner doesn't allow as much airflow so my head gets hot very quickly but I do like that its so much lighter
@MikeB1284 жыл бұрын
Also provides about 1/2 ballistic protection. You win some you lose some.
