This USS Samuel B. Roberts shares its name with a legendary WW2 ship. In the Battle off Samar, it became known as "the destroyer escort that fought like a battleship" as a part of Taffy 3. It was found a couple of years ago, and is currently the deepest shipwreck ever found.

My father was in the Battle of Leyte Gulf as a Navy pilot.The Samual B were presented the Medal of Honor, posthumously, for the having the huevo's to go after Japanese battleship. The ship and crew were mostly lost, but they saved a lot of other warships. And a praying mantis is oe nasty looking insect. See em around here in the State. The Samuel B. Robert’s was built at BIW (Bath Iron Works) in Maine. It’s about 20 minutes from my house. So was the USS Cole, which survived a similar hit from a suicide bomb on a speed boat. Like they say, “Bath Built is Best Built”

oddly, I was actually part of this. I was on an LPH "amphib" ship in the eastern Med at the time. we were called in to the Persian Gulf. our ship had a large medical facility. about a dozen or more Iranians from the barbecued rig from "charlie" group had some mid to high level burns and were cared for by us until we could transfer them to a shore facility. that's right, we picked up the injured bad guys and healed them up. despite their injuries it was probably the highest standard of living they had experienced. it was a really interesting time.

I think this is a concept many aggressive regimes have forgotten in the times of weak White House leadership. The current events in the mid-east are an example of this.

Just look at how we responded after 9/11, they expected the attack to scare us into submission, but in reality all it did was piss us off and get us 100% united and focused on making those responsible pay. The US is one of the most peaceful and friendliest countries in the world, but if you piss us off, it will be the biggest mistake you could ever make.

My husband was in the Navy at the time and was a part of Operation Praying Mantis serving on the USS Wainwright. It was the largest US Navy engagement since WW II. It was not a pretty sight.

He has been my "go to" for entertainment this last month, I think you guys will have an excellent time reacting to his videos because they are both funny and educational. I really hope that even if it doesn't do well for the channel that you still go watch his stuff on your own time, it is really well done and having been a student of public school myself I had no idea just how great some people are, or at least were, in this world. People like Cassius Clay or "The Limping Lady" were amazing individuals who were pivotal in making a better world but they don't get the credit they deserve. The same goes for so many of the other people he covers but those were the only two I could remember off the top of my head. Kuwait, at the instigation of the US, was STEALING Iraqi oil and 2. intentionally dumping it into the open market which made it impossible for Iraq to make a profit and to pay off it's debts to Kuwait 3. Iraq knew the US was behind all of this and PLEADED with the Americans, it's Kuwaiti allies and even the Arab League to influence Kuwait to stop the stealing and to stop the flooding of the oil to the global markets. 4. The Arab League was powerless, the US didn't alter course and the Kuwaitis continued as usual, setting the stage for the eventual Gulf War

Ive had drinks with the Captain of the Samual B Roberts and we talked about that incident. We had a mutual friend who was part of that crew. Now I have served 22 years active duty through multiple wars so im not that easily impressed but the stories he told were profound and awe inspiring.

I remember the 1957 Science Fiction horror movie Mantis about a 200 foot long Praying Mantis trapped in ice at the North Pole for millions of years that escapes and terrorizes people until it is finally cornered and killed in a Manhattan tunnel. One of the scariest Sci-Fi movies ever when I was a kid.

If my high school history teacher had taught like this, I would have gotten a much better grade. His channel is definitely worth diving into. Check out the one about the war horse. I can't remember the horse's name, but it should be easy to find.

I had a Navy vet for my freshman and senior history and a Marine for my junior history. They certainly made it something worth learning, even if it was tedious at times. The failure to learn from history dooms one to repeat it.

The town over from mine has a WWII Japanese camp that they have turned into a museum and maintained it so it looks as it did in the 40's. I've been there multiple times and it is very interesting to learn about.

The treatment in the internment camps was terrible, but you can understand why the camps were made. It doesn't make it right, and so many of those Japanese-American citizens could have helped the fight against the aggressors, but we cannot entirely judge a policy or event through eyes with 80 years of reflection to look back on. We can only learn from it.

11:45-12:10 "You've been training for this." Training is one thing, when it's real is when you find out whether your fight or flight response wins. Even people who have been through it, can't be certain of their reaction "next time" There are so many variables in a person, and so many variables in a situation. I can't fault someone who just can't when it hits. Experience can be a blessing or a curse the second time, because now you have a better idea what can happen. For some people that makes it even harder to cope with.

Good ol' Enterprise-Class carrier USS Enterprise (Big E) pretty much took out half of the Iranian navy fleet by herself using 2 planes. I believe we're going to be getting a Gerald R. Ford- Class Enterprise. The US Navy has named several ships throughout its history "Enterprise" dating back to the 1700s
