The first one is featuring comedian Bill Cosby, who went to prison for a long history of purportedly drugging and molesting women a few years ago during the peak of the me too movement. The Subway one features the then Subway spokesman Jared, who lost a great deal of weight on a subway only diet, he was later convicted for child porn, and solicitation of a minor, he is currently in prison. Enron was one of the largest financial scandals in US history.

@@landonmiller6943 Although true, that is a misleading statement. With no contact given with the statement, it is meant to lead people to believe something that's untrue. Like so many cases in America over the years that have been screwed up by what they call a technicality. Many people have had things overturned because of these mistakes made by the prosecution. To infer that he was released because he didn't do. It is totally absurd. The jury found him guilty 12 to 0 and if you add to the fact that they haven't changed their opinion of the crime. It was heartbreaking when it all came down the things that he had been doing. And what a false horrible person he was and exactly how he took. Advantage of women who were obviously star struck.

How about the roundup ad saying it was safe to use around people and pets. Then inviting the user to get on the ground for a closer look. Weren’t all of the lawsuits based on them knowing it caused cancer the whole time?

Almost all of these didn't age well due to scandals by either the individuals in the commercial or the company involved. There was little wrong with the commercials themselves or the content in most cases. This was not a case of any of it being particularly funny, just choices at the time that were fine that due to later events became tragic or controversial.

It looks like most things have been explained except for the Halliburton one. Dick Cheney was CEO of Halliburton after being secretary of defense, and worked for them until becoming Vice President under GW Bush. During his presidency he was still being compensated by Halliburton, who received a no bid contract to operate and provide fuel for the military in the middle east. They've also had dozens of other scandals ranging from being partially responsible for the Deepwater Horizon spill, operating in Tehran through Cayman Island shell companies, bribing Nigerien officials, chemical spills in the US and abroad, etc...

Enron also required that their employees' pensions be invested in Enron stock... so that when the company went bust, the employees' pensions disappeared. Also, the CEO sold a lot of Enron stock before they announced that the company was broke, so he walked away unhurt, until the SEC came knocking.

Super sizing is out of fashion because it is supposedly contributing to obesity. I feel that it is more a case of overindulging all the time but what do I know? The Subway one features the only spokesperson they ever had who had a great career with Subway and motivational speeches until he was caught with kiddie porn. Enron and Halliburton were both big companies who wound up crashing and burning in huge scandals. The Round Up one is in there because it has been determined that it actually wasn’t safe to use everywhere and now there is a huge class action lawsuit because the product is said to cause cancer. One I’m surprised isn’t in this video is the promotional commercial that showing the Twin Towers silhouetted against the New York skyline with the promo phrase “The Twin Towers, as close to Heaven as you can get.” That one really didn’t age well.

Yeah i think it's going to be tough for many young people let alone non-americans to understand why many of these commercials aged poorly. I'm 43 and a couple of these even went over my head. I thought you might know the Jared from Subway commercial since he was such a huge celebrity but then again i dont even know if there were subways in the UK in the late 90's and early 2000's. There is a documentary on Netflix about Jared and it will blow your mind how preverse and disgusting he really was. I knew what he had been arrested for but to actually find out how sick he really is was mind blowing.

Much of the reason these didn't age well is because of who stars in the commercial. Jared Fogle, former Subway spokesperson, and Bill Cosby, former Jello Pudding spokesperson, are convicted sex offenders. Enron had a great business model. Someone in the company would come up with an idea for a product. The company would then estimate the revenue that product would generate, and the company would book that revenue ... without building the product. Most of these have been explained so I will explain why the snake one with the australian gator guy named Steve Irwin is such a big deal. Two reasons are why I could see it not aging well. 1. Steve Irwin died by a stingray attack so he is now deceased. So it could be for respecting his passing. 2. It could be because it down plays those who have died or been wounded by a snake bite. Kind of also encouraging those who want to do stupid stunts messing with wild animals you know nothing about. Both these reasons seem like they could be overlooked in my mind. The following reasons are why: He loved his profession and he knew the risks he took. So not showing his past videos and ads because he passed away doing what he loves just seems to me like a petty thing to do. Even his son took over and honors his father by continuing his job with wild life and their family zoo. The second reason can be overlooked due to the fact people die in plenty of ways and do things that can possibly cause harm all the time. It just seems kind of stupid to ban certain imagery or subjects in ads and not others for possible harm or struggles without a definitive example. People can get hurt with power tools all the time. It doesnt stop the people who need to use them from using them. Its like if they tried to stop a texas chainsaw massacre halloween commercial simply because massacres and murder obviously are bad and shouldnt be taken lightly. So without a definitive example of why like if reason 1 was still working as a valid reason then its simply not worth getting rid of it. If the Irwin family decided to drop all public use of him in ads and videos then I might understand and respect the decision but we dont know if they did. Clearly not since we all were able to see the ad now in this montage. The main and only reason I would expect to stop showing him is because he cannot create anymore content himself so it would have to be repeating old clips of him or his voice. Thus its simply not possible to create new ads with him using new footage. Its all going to be old footage.

The first commercial with the jello pudding was legendary comedian Bill Cosby who was found guilty of sexual assault throughout his whole career that's why it was a cringey commercial knowing he was doing stuff like that while filming this commercial. The second commercial what subway was Jared he's been doing commercials for Subway for years and they cut ties with him not so long ago because he was found guilty a certain pornographic images and videos on his computer cringy seeing him. And of course you know about the World Trade Center commercial people falling and a plane hitting the building it will give people PTSD if they see that commercial crazy.

The commercials aged fine, it's society that has aged poorly.

the snickers/football commercial...makes light of CTE, a chronic degenerative condition secondary to repeated concussions. This is NOT a popular topic in American Professional Football.

It's kinda like British humor is for Americans. I love British comedy but a lot of times they refer to things we don't get but the Brits do.

Yeah, there was nothing “wrong” with the Ford commercial. Nothing wrong with the Snickers (Batman) one either. Really there is nothing wrong with the TicTac commercial either except that the guy was a little socially awkward. Nothing aged poorly about the McDonalds commercial with Trump either. They could all go back on the air today with no issues. Of course, at the time they were produced, none of these were bad at all, except some of the companies were scummy, but what else is new.

Really guys, you didn't have a chance with this one. Not a chance at all. These were mostly Particular to America and Americans. Add to that it's the 1990s. And you guys had almost no chance at understanding most of them.

You poor people. 😂😂 not only are you British, but you’re also young. There is very little reason for you to understand why most of these have aged poorly. For Americans like me, they are painfully obvious. Did enjoy the reaction though.

Yes the most horrific pedophile. This woman went undercover for the FBI and pretended she was one also. He helped her learn how to groom little kids. It’s all recorded. I couldn’t listen to it all. Then when he went to prison, he actually blamed the parents for letting their children be groomed so easily!! Just this year he was beaten pretty bad in prison. I can’t say I’m sorry.

Some of these didn’t age well based on things that happened in the US in the last 20 years. Not surprised that you couldn’t figure most of these out.

Who's idea was it to have early 23/24-year old Brits to react to American 90's Commercial and no explanations of the context??? It's like showing 23-year old Americans Jimmy Saville with no context then expecting the Americans to be like, "Oh wow, that didn't age well"......I mean average 20 year old Americans don't even who the hell Enron is smh
