As a former military member that lost friends while in the military, I just can't go to things like this. I don't have PTSD, but I just can't handle places like that. I can't stand to hear taps being played anywhere. I try to avoid it when I can, but out of respect, I still go to many funerals of former military members, but it still gets to me every time. Thanks for being respectful with your reactions like this. Peace.

I feel you brother. Many people try to say “it’s PTSD, you should go get help!” That’s bull though. Sometimes things are just too much and you have to remove yourself from the situation, if possible. Just a friendly “I get you”. Be easy.

James....for reference, the Sentinel Guards did not take any time off for Covid. They have continued to guard the tomb and have done so since it's conception.

A friend was one of the guards at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. They wear wool suits year round. They stand out there in every type of weather. They are sharp and disciplined. To see the changing of the guard is a sight to behold and quite the privilege, especially in person. It chokes me up every time. I am so grateful for our military.

On a band trip to DC in high school, one of the charter bus drivers said he would drive the trip for free if we would go, as a group, to see the tomb and the Vietnam Memorial and listen to his story. Saved us about 10-15 bucks a piece. He had a deeply touching story about his family’s military past.

The guarding of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldiers was never ceased during the COVID pandemic .. "It doesn’t matter if it’s a hurricane or in this case a pandemic. We’re always here. We’re always guarding," said Capt. Harold Earls IV, commander of the tomb guards. They don't guard this tomb for the "audience" - they guard it out of respect for those man who died for our Country and in the end were unknown in death but not without the love and respect from a grateful nation. Around the age of 10 my family went to Washington DC for vacation ("holiday" for our British cousins). It was a week I'll never forget. The Natural History Museum, the Air and Space Museum and thanks to a church friend we just happened to bump into we toured the DC Mint on the floor with the money rather than behind the glass way above the floor. As vivid as those memories are, watching the Changing of the Guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in person stands out in my memory. Even at that young age I understood the importance of that place, the respect not only required while there but owed and the dedication of the Guards. The Changing of the Guard is a demonstration of respect, honor, sacrifice, dedication, remembrance, love of country and I'm quite sure the nearest thing to perfect as any human can produce. The timing, precision, uniforms, speach, weapons, every part is as perfect as anything you will ever see/experience. That was roughly 47 years ago. To say it left an impression would be a massive understatement.

I don't know what hits harder. See the tomb or all the white markers that go on and on. I've been there twice. When they say freedom don't come cheap. Then see all those markers. Then realise that's only a fraction of the total.

Right up there with the USS Arizona. Many lost men are entombed down there, and the oil from its tanks slowly bubbles up to this day. (My family are Pearl Harbor survivors, stationed there and living on Ford Island.)

I hate to say a place of rest is beautiful, but Arlington really is a beautiful cemetery. Everybody should visit at least once!

I served 2991 days in the U S Air Force from 1968 - 1976 serving two tours in Thailand to support Viet Nam and to this day tears form in my eyes when hearing our National Anthem and taps, as well as things like this. At 76 I am still a sentimental old fart.

In most cases, if the soldier could be identified, the United States returned the body to the family. My uncle was killed in France and we received his body and was able to bury him with other family members. The guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier has never stopped for any reason

FYI: Your clip images show in reverse...especially those with the U.S. flag. It's unsettling. Great reaction! Thank you! There is a video clip from sometime in the past 5 years, where a civilian tried to walk across the tomb plaza, and the guard alerted, and reacted. This is a highly respected place.

I was just in Washington DC a month ago for a organization hear in the states we have in school called FFA and I’ve watched many videos on the Tomb of the Unknown and I can say it’s one thing to see it online but to actually see it in person a completely different experience and real eye opener

I went to Arlington National Cemetery, and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier last October. There were some Vietnam and Korean War veterans there for a wreath laying ceremony. It was a surreal experience

I've been to Arlington a few times. The first was as a kid in 1967 when my father was stationed at the Pentagon. The occasion was the funeral for Roger Chaffee one of the three astronauts killed in the Apollo 1 fire. The second time was in 1970 for our 8th grade class trip, where we did see the changing of the guard. The last time was while in the Marine Corps in 1983 to see the changing a second time.

President Eisenhower, who had been the Supreme Allied Commander in the European Theatre, no doubt was in the perfect place to sign the Bill to include the soldier from WWII. Watched a video about the process of becoming a tomb guard. Stress over the top. Every part of the uniform gets measured.

A salute to the "Old Guard" who has guarded the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier for 75 years. It's the dedication of those soldiers guarding it that is one of the reasons it is special. The unknown soldier in Westminster Abbey is the only burial in the Abbey that you are not allowed to walk across. You can walk over the others, not that one.

They also protect it during snowfall/blizzards, tropical storms, etc. I haven't heard about anything being stopped for Covid.

My dad has friends that are missing to this day in Vietnam. He flew on B52s and some of them were shot down and the crewmen never recovered. It hits you when you realize it could have been your uncle, grandfather, great grandfather in that tomb. My family has been in most major conflicts since the Revolution. Civil war, WW1, WW2, Korea, Nam, Beirut during the bombing. It still gets me some days knowing I couldn't serve after 9/11.

Dna is automatic in Vietnam war bodies now. they keep finding bodies in the jungle. the government actually approved it and once a match is found the bodies are repatriated to whatever country they belong to. It was part of the treaty they signed when we left. DNA helps but many are still lost out there. including a high ranking pilot who crashed and still haven't found.

The princess bride actually has the legendary Andre the Giant in it. its his only movie appearance ever but by the time he did the role he was majorly in the end stages of acromegaly aka his size was killing him. Andre was born with a rare form of giantism that made him grow to an enormous size a wrestling promoter spotted him at a circus in the crowd in france and asked him to learn to wrestle. simply he was billed as the 7th wonder of the world and stampeded through the competition join the WWWF unde vince sr which lead to Wrestlemania 1 and his match with hulk hogan. he did a few appearances for tv and stuff mostly to promote WWF. The princess bride was his only movie role and he basically just stood just saying lines as he couldn't walk without the aid of crutches or his wheelchair. he did the movie but died a few years later peacefully on his ranch that he loved. Andre was exploited most of his life but he just wanted to find his own peace in life which he did by buying land and farming cattle. the ranch is in the hands of his daughter now which he never knew about until later in his life.

The tomb has been continuously guarded, since 1926. Including during covid. I am retired from the U.S. Army, and I put in an application and was approved to be buried there, but unsure if I will due to the how far away from my family it is located.

The US right now is on its longest consecutive run with the guards since 1948. If I’m not mistaken it hasn’t stopped at all and the guys that actually sign up to do that job are extremely dedicated at heart. They will not let it stop. it’s a great honor to be a guard at the tomb of the unknown soldier, but it also takes great responsibility. It doesn’t matter if it’s hailing pouring down rain 8 feet of snow, the government will pay a guy to shovel that snow all day for the tomb of the unknown soldier, and that guy will keep walking and it did not stop during Covid. P.s you guys make awesome videos.

There is soooo much to experience in D.C.. I would plan a few days....even a week, to really give yourself the true impact of it all. As a Veteran, I still want to go back and pay my respects because I didn't get to go to everywhere in the day I was there.

NO the Tomb of the Unknow Soldier Was guarded 24/7 during COVID-19 as it always is, even during extrema wither like heat waves and hurricanes. Though the Tomb was closed to the public visitors during COVID so the guard duty may have been done like it is during other closures i.e. Night time. Like all solders the Old Guard did there duties during the time of the Pandemic, it is not like you would lock up your armed forces due to a virous after all we train to operate in Nuclear, Chomical and Biologicals environments otherwise the enemies would know they could use them to win a war.

While the animation shows the basics I wish the video had more real video. It is definitely worth seeing in person. As both a US Military Veteran and brat it was especially moving to view. I got lucky that on my only visit I not only saw the changing of the guard, but a full wreath ceremony with band, honor guard, etc. Highly recommend seeing that if possible. They may have a schedule with more information on the web. Salute!!!

In Arlington, all the tombstones are the same rectangular shaped stone, except one cross. The cross is Robert F Kennedy’s grave.

Also when it mentioned the Badge, what they showed was not it. The Badge is worn on the front left pocket of the uniform.

Actually...no. At one time ANC allowed non regulation stones (paid for by families). About 20 years ago that option ended. Officially it was due to limited space, which is true. But also around that same time, a family had a modern art stone installed. It was totally inappropriate for ANC. So wasn't surprised when the new rule was announced.

I can get my knickers in a knot at times when I see vidros of people being stupid & disrepecting the King's Guard...and torally laugh when they are shouted at and walked over...or nipped at by one of the horses....serves them for being stupid 😅 Respect the laws, culture and people in any country you are visiting

If and when you make a trip to DC you definitely need to plan out a itinerary of things you might want to see because the National Air & Space Museum is next to Dulles International Airport which is about 26 miles west of Downtown DC, plus there's a hidden gem called Mather Gorge that lies somewhat in-between the two that even most American don't even know about, Mather Gorge is on the Potomac River, the Gorge is the only set of Class 5 Whitewater Rapids anywhere in the world that located close to a major population center, all other Class 5 rapids are in very remote and hard to access areas these rapids are 12 miles from the Whitehouse.

Nope. They guard The Tomb from people. It's not just respect. The amount of people who try to get close to it - for whatever reason - is unreal. I would bet there are teens who would love to spray paint it with their graffiti. The Tomb was closed to the public for periods during covid - but the guard never stopped.

Vast majority of visitors are respectful and follow the rules and regulations. Very rarely do you have to break off anyone.

I have the utmost respect for the US Military and, especially, the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier... In fact, I have visited the Memorial. However, I have no interest in an animated video ...let alone a reaction to one. Sorry my issue, to be sure. I do not like KZbin videos of pictures either...just me. I'm sure the Guard continued during Covid. Although not required, a sentinal volunteered to remain during a hurricane, for 23 hours.

If I remember correctly a few years ago because of DNA the identification of the unknown soldier was identified and returned to his family. The tomb is now empty, but still guarded to honor all lost.

No, it is NOT empty. The WWI Unknown Soldier has been in the Tomb since 1921. WWII and Korean War Unknowns have been in their crypts since 1958. The Vietnam Unknown joined them in 1984. In 1998 he was identified and removed. That crypt will forever remain empty.
