The people in that tomb are dead, so they won't know and/or care if someone is making noise outside. Not everyone subscribes to the idea of a celestial North Korea, where an imaginary being along with all dead people observe your every move. You're free to do so of course, but you're in no position to dictate to anyone else that they must buy into that childish bullshit. Furthermore, if you think a kid making noises is a sign of disrespect, you're a fucking moron.

Charred Logic been to the changing of the guard a few years ago, you can't watch it without being impressed at the dedication they have, .I was taught to be quiet and respectful in any cemetery, so while I was paying my respects at President Kennedys grave some big mouth either didn't care or didn't get the memo by flapping her gums. Later I told my wife that a lot of people treat Arlington national cemetery like a tourist attraction, and it's not it's a place of reverence and like any cemetery should be treated that way
@RacerGirl48

@@willielarimer7170 it IS a tourist attraction, by definition, just like Hollywood in Richmond where my grandparents and uncle and one of my mom's cousins are buried. Everyone goes to see the famous gravesites of presidents, astronauts, prominent soldiers, other notables, memorials, whatever they can find. The Unknown Soldier always draws a crowd because people just are almost in awe of those sentinels. They do this all the time 24/7/365. Its amazing. I know some people hope to catch a glimpse of a funeral procession too. Those are incredible, horses and all

Let’s ensure one thing is absolutely clear, the Tomb Guard Sentinel(s) performed their duty - which, having served for twenty years as an active duty officer, I truly believe is sacred - with tact and perfection. Rather, it is the parent(s), who permitted their unruly offspring to disrespect the gravesite of our unknown, fallen, brothers-in-arms, who should be censured. The fact is, the SFC was far more gracious - he requested and he said “thank you,” he did not remonstrate - than many professional, career service personnel would have been under these circumstance.

I don't see why folks are saying things like "bad parents" or "unruly children." You don't see what happened here. I was honored to attend a ceremony for a friend of a friend who was honored to guard the Tomb. During the ceremony, a family was close to the rail barrier. They had 2 small children who were very quiet and very respectful. In the moment, the smallest scooted ever so slightly past the rail (he was maybe 4 and clearly taken by the guards in uniform). The parents were immersed in the ceremony so didn't notice right away. The Guard did this exact thing, asked the parents to bring their child back. Which they did. Weren't bad parents, not a bad kid. Just a small reminder needed.
@bookratt
@bookratt 5 жыл бұрын
The parents were "immersed in the ceremony and didn't notice it'. Well, there is your first problem, right there. This isn't McDonalds or Walmart, where pretty much anything goes--but really shouldn't. Also: 4 is old enough to know they should have stayed right where they were put, as if the clear, loud directions of the very soldiers the kid was interested in, weren't enough b y themselves, before hand.. The parents should have held the child's hands or carried them, to prevent that mistake from happening. Bad kid? No. Clueless parents, and annoying to everyone there? Yes. Disrespectful of the guards doing their duty? Yes. It is what it is.
@RacerGirl48
@RacerGirl48 4 жыл бұрын
@@bookratt at 4 I can totally see a kid being fascinated by those sentinels. They are amazing. And yes I can see how the parent can get caught up in the ceremony and be oblivious to everything else. It happened to me when my mom's cousin (Army veteran) passed away. He was buried at Hollywood with military honors. I was so taken by the ritual and precision of it all that a squirrel could have jumped in my lap and I would not have noticed.

That's no excuse. We have the means now and could easily identify the remains through DNA or dental records.

Guy Piper you don't seem to understand they would have to be in the data base in order to be identified. They are not while it is possible to identify them.

They are in a database. They were all given dog tags.

All these videos with the word "Yelling" in the title is not right. Yelling is what Marine Drill Instructors are on Training Day 1. These Sentinels are just talking.

@@stevenm3823 I see what you are saying now. The Sergeant of the Guard (E-7) is an actual position, the top one. The SOG hosts all ceremonies but can also change the guard (as in this video) or even walk the mat. Any Badge holder can change the guard but typically it is the Relief Commander (E-6).

Lol he wasnt 'fussing'. He was putting the parents of snot nosed little brats in check because obviously the parents can't control their own children, so the guard had to do just that 🤷‍♂️

Your comment made my day, I work in retail and most parents don't do anything when their kids are running around like maniacs ,that is until they break something.

If your implying they somehow receive extra for this don't be a jackass, they are in the military and receive their appropriate pay for their rank, these men and women consider this job an honor and don't get extra for doing it.

How far are the guards allowed to take things? What happens if someone refuses to comply with their requests?

If it comes to the point where they can call Arlington National Cemetery security or Military Police, they can do that from the Sentry Box (where they normally call the Sergeant of the Guard to relieve the active guard with a new one), and they get dispatched and remove you from the premises. My advice? DO NOT ACT UP, comply with the rules and be respectful at all times.
