Let’s ensure one thing is absolutely clear, the Tomb Guard Sentinel(s) performed their duty - which, having served for twenty years as an active duty officer, I truly believe is sacred - with tact and perfection. Rather, it is the parent(s), who permitted their unruly offspring to disrespect the gravesite of our unknown, fallen, brothers-in-arms, who should be censured. The fact is, the SFC was far more gracious - he requested and he said “thank you,” he did not remonstrate - than many professional, career service personnel would have been under these circumstance.

I don't see why folks are saying things like "bad parents" or "unruly children." You don't see what happened here. I was honored to attend a ceremony for a friend of a friend who was honored to guard the Tomb. During the ceremony, a family was close to the rail barrier. They had 2 small children who were very quiet and very respectful. In the moment, the smallest scooted ever so slightly past the rail (he was maybe 4 and clearly taken by the guards in uniform). The parents were immersed in the ceremony so didn't notice right away. The Guard did this exact thing, asked the parents to bring their child back. Which they did. Weren't bad parents, not a bad kid. Just a small reminder needed.
@bookratt5 жыл бұрын
The parents were "immersed in the ceremony and didn't notice it'. Well, there is your first problem, right there. This isn't McDonalds or Walmart, where pretty much anything goes--but really shouldn't. Also: 4 is old enough to know they should have stayed right where they were put, as if the clear, loud directions of the very soldiers the kid was interested in, weren't enough b y themselves, before hand.. The parents should have held the child's hands or carried them, to prevent that mistake from happening. Bad kid? No. Clueless parents, and annoying to everyone there? Yes. Disrespectful of the guards doing their duty? Yes. It is what it is.
@RacerGirl484 жыл бұрын
@@bookratt at 4 I can totally see a kid being fascinated by those sentinels. They are amazing. And yes I can see how the parent can get caught up in the ceremony and be oblivious to everything else.
