Im just gonna say I grew up with the little wax bottle drinks and never seen someone chew the bottle, we typically bite off the top, spit it out then drink the contents and thats it!

Yup, the wax "bottle" is pretty useless after biting off the top. The drink portion was as boring 50 years ago as it is today!

We always chewed the whole bottle lol...idk if that's what you were supposed to do or not, but we chewed it like gum until the wax got too broken down. My sister used to like those big plastic lips that had sort of a sweet taste to them, but I thought they tasted gross. Good times!

Oh, no. I did. No, it wasn't flavorful, but I still enjoyed chewing it. And, sometimes, I would bite the bottle part with the liquid still in it which did give it some flavor. Albeit for just a few seconds.

Roasted peeps are delicious.. The sugar on the outside caramelizes. They're also great when used to make smores or rice krispy treats.

You are soooooo right!!! I can't stand them fresh from the box, but pop a hole in the wrapping and let them get a little dried out/stale and the texture has a nice chew to it, and roast them...they finally taste of something other than sweet air.

The wax drinks are definitely a kid thing and I never chewed the wax. I just through it away. I'm 55 yrs old so that would tell you how long they've been out.

I’m 60 and whenever we would have these we actually would put the whole thing in our mouth and get The giggles. But of course after a while the wax is completely tasteless so we stopped eating the wax or chewing it anyway. But this is definitely a child’s snack

Me and my buddies would buy those wax bottles in the local candy shop walking home from school. That was literally 58 to 60 years ago. We'd pretend they were beer or wine or whisky or something else we could not have and fake being drunk, imitating TV characters like Otis on The Andy Griffith Show. Always wondered why they did not color and flavor the wax.

Have you tried Jolly Rancher candy? Only time I worked at a candy factory. You could smell driving by on the street outside, what flavor of hard candy they were cooking that hour! That was the original factory, on the graveyard shift cleanup crew. What a mess to clean up every night! I never want to see the inside of a chocolate factory!! And no, I never met Mr Wonka ;-)

I love peeps but I open the pack and let it set for a couple days to dry out a little. The wax bottles were fun as a kid. They didn't taste great and my jaw hurt after chewing on the wax for half an hour.

Those wax bottles with the juice are a throwback!! I remember getting them in the late 1970s & early 1980s. I also remember buying cigarette gum!!! Does anyone remember them?? They were sticks of gum that came in "cigarette" packs. They were rolled in white paper with powder sugar. You took the sticks out, blew on one end of the paper and the powder sugar "puffed" out like smoke. Training 7 year old children to be smokers--LMAO!!! The good ol' days of the late 1970s & early 1980s.

The Nikl-Nips have been around for close to 100 years - from a time when chewing wax was considered a treat. I'm in my 60's and my mother - who was born in the 1920's, talked about having them when she was a girl. I probable haven't had one in 50 years.

I was just thinking that there is a "great debate" in the US regarding peeps: people either like them fresh (right out of the package) or stale (sitting out for a few days). My mom used to put peeps (outside of the packaging) in the Easter baskets of my sisters and mine and I would always eat my chocolate first before the peeps. This always meant that the peeps would get stale by the time I got to them, so eventually I learned to enjoy them first. 🙃

From pennsylvania grew up close to Hershey. . Twizzlers, chocolate, microwave ten seconds like it was just made...not big on gummy candies, though... but zagnut, Reeses, peanut M&M...fav Xmas candy isn't made anymore ...Peach Blossoms, hard candy filled w/peanut butter and not peach flavored at all...PA is the Capitol of Sweet & Salty snacks...more chip(crisps), Prezel, Sweets companies than most anywhere, a lot of national brands, and the best place to get a authentic Amish Whoopie Pie...mmm mmm

I've had them, but back in the days of "penny candy", there were better options. We would collect empty soft drink bottles (yes, glass bottles) and return them for the 3 cent deposit. The large bottles - quart I think - were worth a nickel. (The bottles were collected, cleaned and refilled by the bottlers. No plastic filling up the ocean and waterways.) Collect enough bottles and you came home from the corner grocery store (literally the name of the store at the top of my street) with a bag full of assorted candy.

I honestly don't know who buys these kinds of snacks, other than Peeps (which are highly seasonal for Easter). Never seen an adult buy them and kids tend to go for gummies, Skittles and red licorice. But clearly SOMEBODY is buying them or they wouldn't continue to sell them!

Hi-Chew are actually Japanese candy. The founder of Hi-Chew moved to America in 1888 and learned how to make candy before returning to Japan in 1899. He created Chewlets in 1956 which became Hi-Chew in 1975 and is when the candy starting making it's way to the U.S. but wasn't real popular here at the time. Hi-Chew didn't really get popular in America until 2015 when they opened their first American factory to make Hi-Chew and year later the candy started hitting all the stores here in America.

Don't worry about stale Peeps... They should stay "fresh" for another 30-40 years. ;) The wax bottles I always viewed as more of a punishment than a treat. Hi-Chew are great. They are Japanese and not American, but very tasty.

I’m American and most people I know think peeps are absolutely gross. I haven’t had one in 15 years. We haven’t had those wax drinks since like 2005. The hamburger thing is more of a novelty, I see them once every ~ 5 years. These aren’t really American snacks. We don’t eat these lol. The sour patch kids and air heads have been long time classics/are popular. The Hi Chews are something new working the last ~10 years and are kinda popular.

The second “snack” you tried (that looked like little Coke bottles with juice in them) are, in fact, just a novelty snack for little kids, and you’re right.....the “bottles” ARE wax! That’s so that kids won’t hurt themselves if they bite down on them . I’ve tried them when I was a kid, and got tired of them quickly. Not enough juice in them for me.

As for Peeps, they do have a wide variety of flavors. I just started eating them only a few months ago, so I've only tried 5 flavors. By far, my favorite flavor so far has been Froot Loops, it's identical to the cereal flavor. (American) Froot Loops is also my favorite cereal. I know your version is different. The other flavors I've tried in best to worst are 2. Cotton Candy 3. Wild Berry 4. Chocolate Pudding.

Personally, I don't know anyone who actually likes Peeps. Peeps are in everyone's candy basket on Easter morning, and they are the last thing left in the basket after all the good candy is gone. Weeks later they are stale and hard as a rock, the cat might slap one around the house for amusement. When I was a child in the 1970s, living in Michigan it was hard to find British candy but I was a big fan of Dr. Who (Tom Baker), so I always got some Jelly Babies at Easter, along with Wine Gums and, of course, after I read C.S. Lewis we had to try Turkish Delight.

Peeps® have been around since the stone-age but I was never a fan of them, even as a child I didn't like them (too sugary & marshmallowy). 2:22 Meh, never liked the wax coke-bottles either. 4 :32 LOL Crabby-Patties didn't come along until late in my lifetime, so neither me nor my children ever tried them. You guys are brave, but do me a favor, never eat anything that looks like it may have been tampered with, especially if it's from someone mysterious (i.e., not a regular patron). ;-) Peace

Yellow, purple, pink, blue, green...all taste the same. I have seen strawberry and chocolate flavored ones. I am not a fan of marshmallow anything, except a S'more, but a good friend is an absolute Peep freak, so I picked some up for her today while grocery shopping.
