Thank you for an excellent presentation on Dupuytrens Disease. I always embraced the Notion that it was of Viking/Neanderthal genotype introduced into the modern phenotype.

Hi Doctor Eaton. I had a NEEDLE APONEUROTOMY performed by you twice in Jupiter. Each time it was successful and alleviated my contractures. After you retired, I sought out another hand specialist and was encouraged to try Xiaflex. This was a miserable experience with a lot of pain, poor result and a recurrence in less than a year. I wish you were still performing the procedure because I am confidant that you would be able to help me as you did before. I am now contemplating surgery but I know that once I take that step I will no longer be a candidate for aponeurotomy. Thank you for your tireless and unselfish dedication to finding a cure.

I had XIAFLEX injections 4 years ago [2016] absolutely brilliant. Fingers still straight. Day 1 injections in cord, 24 hours later numbed by injection and fingers sraightened. Painful yes, like a hornet sting, but only about 1 minute in total. I was driving after 2 days and working with my hands after a week.

Dr Eaton, thank you. I am newly diagnosed wishing to be proactive with an early intervention treatment plan, your recommendations are the best I have found. Thanks again for relevant, helpful and hopeful information. You are a gem.

Great information, thank you doctor. I’ve had it in my right hand for six years. My hand surgeon gives me cortisone shots. The constant pain I have is overwhelming.

I know people won't want theories. But I am in early stages and have noticed something interesting. I have shoulder issues. The shoulder issue preceeded any dupuytrens signs. I developed calluses after paddling a canoe - common right? At the same time the paddling forced me to take note of my shoulder pain and to try and loosen my shoulder. In the same week I noticed the nodule on my palm, I made a breakthrough with my shoulder where I literally felt something reset and the joint aligned properly for the first time in a year. My shoulder has since been improving day by day, developing boday awareness and focusing on getting my shoulder right. Then I read about Frozen shoulder and the 8% overlap with that condition and Dupuytrens. While I have been obsessively stretching my had to prevent progressionm this new knowledge spurred me to focus harder on my shoulder. I did a very focused session identifying the tightest knots remianing in my shoulder and working the hard. The next day when I bent my fingers back (actively using finger muscles, not a stretch) the tendon did not stand out of my palm as it had been since onset and I noticed a clear loosening in my palm with less stiffness. Actually no stiffness. Being very bodily aware I thought this through and I have a strong sense that my palm issue, while propbaly requiring predisposition with colligin overproduction, heritage etc., the logic of what happened to me seems it could be the following. The shoulder issue caused expanding tension. All the way down my arm and forearm (Which I had independently noticed this also but didn't connect) and into my palm causing the tendon to become taught and raised beyond it's natural profile. This was clearly visible since I noticed the calluses but I had'nt looked until the Calluses prompted me to. The raised tendon would have experienced increased friction while paddling the canoe, the collagen over-production issue (I have kelloids elswhere on my body also) created the nodule which in turn momoted more friction. Once it begin growing it keeps going the more trauma it encounters. This theory may be shot down, I am not trying to convince anyone so don't waste your time but I wanted to share it for anyone with similar experience. I am convinced enough that I am going to pursue a very focused stretching plan from my shoulder down my entire arm. I have a strong instinct, knowing my own body, that this will produce a good result. I will enrole in the study.

I just had a thought and a question. I had severe plantar fasciitis when I was 62. I am now 75 and have cleverly developed Dupuytren's contracture in the last couple of months with one nodule that has almost doubled in size with my pinkie sticking out a bit, nothing serious right now. Are PF and DC related diseases?

Thanks Dr. Eaton! This was great information. I'm a member of the IDDB and I'm doing what I can to help out where I can on that front. I've had needle aponeurotomy recently and that helped quite a bit. Anything else can I do to help out on the biomarker / research side of the game?

Wondering about the benefits of radiation therapy for Dupuytren's disease after a straightening procedure, such as aponeurotomy or xiapix, in order to prevent re-contracture. Radiation reduces keloid scarring and some physicians recommend it. What is your experience, Dr Eaton?

should i use the petroleum ointment on the stitched wounds they gave me after surgery? im confused bc one pt said i could if i want and the next pt said no and im afraid if i use it it might ruin the healing process or even if i dont use it. i shouldve asked why not and the 1st pt didnt seem enthused about using it. does ointment hinder healing?

Is treatment available in the UK. It seems to very limited here. I have a hard nodule in my left palm beneath my middle finger with a cord coming from beneath it and soft lines above it. (To each finger) the nodule has gotten harder and bigger and started around end May this year. I train with weights an the nodule can be painful. Is it best to not lift weights.

I've had 2 surgeries and 2 collagenase (Xiaflex) injection treatments. The injections worked well but as with surgery, dups is coming back. Still much less invasive than surgery. The worst part of Xiaflex treatment was the painkilling injections! Quick recovery though.

@@Binte625 My case was moderate to severe but the injections worked fairly well. As I said, it is a temporary fix but apparently the length of time before recurrence can vary a lot. The cost was luckily zero for me through the health system in Australia, but I was told a vial of xiaflex could cost $3000 , however I'm not sure if that is correct. It comes from the USA. Good luck , hope all goes well.

Thank you sir, knowledge is a wonderful blessing. I just developed the v with a lump. I’m 74, so I’ll wait a couple of weeks and see if I notice any change. Im lifting 2 dehumidifiers that have 20 pounds of water I Must empty to keep my place dry and warm. I believe that’s what caused it. I’m guessing. Ps come Lord Jesus I’m tired lol .

I have dupytrends small nodules and light cords on both hands, knuckle pads on my right hand only. I also have Ledderhose on my feet. Would you recommend radiation therapy on my hands? I’m scheduled to go soon. I worry that once I have radiation? I won’t be a good candidate for surgery. I heard that many surgeons won’t operate on you after radiation therapy. Thanks for your help.

This is under investigation. Because Dupuytren bends fingers unpredictably, it's hard to test whether Humira or other preventive drugs can slow the rate of bending. But still, very inspired research by the Oxford group!
