No Gaynor, we have different types of gravy here....Southern gravy(white gravy), Brown gravy, Red Eye gravy(brown as well), Chicken & Turkey gravy(which is a light golden color).... Au jus and gravy are similar, but Au jus is a light sauce, while gravy is thickened with flour or cornstarch.

Do you not have 'au jus' dipping sauce for sandwiches in the UK? Maybe it's originally a French thing (?). In the US, 'gravy' seems to incorporate a wider variety of different sauces, some are brown (the traditional thick brown sauce made from meat drippings) and other coloured sauces w/wo drippings (cream, red, white, mushroom, and even chocolate gravies). 'Au jus' is like a flavourful broth used for dipping sandwiches into, usually large bready sandwiches that would otherwise be quite dry and perhaps a little difficult to swallow.

The way Brits say taco kills me hahahaha. And G a griddle being black doesn’t mean it’s caramelized stickiness. Usually that’s oil that has “seasonsed” the griddle top over time. It adds flavor and makes the griddle non stick.

"Au jus" literally means "with juice" which is what it is--drippings from roasted meat primarily. It's not "gravy" which is the "juice" thickened with flour or some other thickener (I often use arrowroot for thickening sauces). A "French dip" sandwich is a roast beef sandwich served with the "jus" for dipping. Our "gravy" is pretty much the same as your "gravy"--you are being confused by certain odd-ball dishes called "gravy" that everyone recognizes as something different (e.g. "Italian gravy" which is a sauce made by long-simmering a variety of meats--pork ribs, bracciole, even meatballs--in a marinara type tomato sauce). And "white gravy" is a thing of its own, known mainly in the south but it's similar to a béchamel flavored with meat drippings (sausage, chicken . . . whatever meat it's to be served with).

Au jus is not the same thing as gravy, it's more like a broth for dipping. Also there's a variety of different types of gravies so you can't really say "gravy in the US" because it's too large a pool to generalize.

Some of the best food you'll get comes off a truck, not just pizza. My favorite tacos and burritos in San Francisco comes off a "taco truck" and many US cities now have reserved lots where food trucks can park and serve up whatever they specialize in (which is often delicious).

Ralph is an old English name. Any Italian named Ralph is sketchy.
@BTinSF
@BTinSF Жыл бұрын
Not in older American cities. Italian American immigrants frequently adopted English sounding names in the 19th and early 20th centuries or named their kids with English names. "Ralph" could have been Raphaello or something originally but by the time he opened his restaurant he was "Ralph". In San Francisco, which has a substantial Italian-American community, there are several Italian-American restaurants that are among the oldest in the city that use variations of the name "Joe's" (e.g 'Original Joe's, Little Joe's). 150 years ago people didn't need to name their places something that sounded Italian--cities back then were filled with real Italians fresh off the boat and if a place served Italian food you could be fairly sure the cook had a connection to the "old country" no matter the name of the place.

Indeed everything looked so good I'm not sold on the cake and a shake but I would give it a try but everything else I wouldn't have to think about in the gentleman with the wood fired pizza oven with the right dough recipe if you can make better than you could order probably in if not in factual tea in your own mind it will be because you did it. I could see you and your your your brother right I believe and your father sitting around the smoker like I got in the backyard the one you making sure you got enough wood splits 1 trimming the meat one firing up the smoker. Then standing around do your best Tim Allen impression😂🎉😂 LOL. No seriously I got my smoker and I haven't went to a barbecue restaurant since I got it. Despite the hours of work and actually because of the hours of work and time and effort into it it tastes so much better to me. And I can choose whatever Woods I want to smoke it with. And how long I go overboard my ribs look like an entire smoke ring there's no separation there's just a little bit of bark and smoke ring cuz I'll cook the ribs as long as I cook a brisket. But I I wrap it sooner and a double rapid butcher paper and tinfoil cuz if you leave it with butcher paper you're losing a lot of your juices that added tin foil keep the moisture in. It's not just meet I do vegetables in there a pan of cornbread in there. Take some corn-on-the-cob soak it in some water enough to cover the corn Pour some sugar in it let it soak for a couple hours make sure the sugar is mixed up good in the water trust me. And then throw them directly from the pot indoor smoker 20 minutes then throw them on your grill don't peel them it keeps all the moisture that you've put in there plus the moisture of the corn on the cob keeps all the flavor in it roasted corn basically with little smoke flavor on it pretty good. Throw broccoli and cauliflower in the smoker it's even better than if you did it on a grill in in a tinfoil boat. I am so trying to get one of my my English reactors to buy a smoker at you would think I was Hank Hill over here that sell propane and propane accessories LOL I just want to see one of you guys out there doing it as a group or as an individual just killing it you know. Cuz I don't have a big submarine parked in the backyard it's just an offset vertical smoker. In all reality no bigger than a modern gas grill just taller.😂 well I am completely and utterly hungry now
