We, the fans, in America have always accepted the fact that Friday nights are for high school football (Friday Night Lights!). Most cities even have a local high school football highlights show on tv, late on Friday nights. My brother was the city "Player of the Week" on our local high school football highlights show once in 1987. ...Saturdays are for college football. Sundays are for the NFL. ...We, the fans, have always accepted and appreciate this tradition.

Personally as a fan love the fact that majority of NFL games are played on Sunday. I have the day off from work and get all my household chores done on Saturday. It makes it holiday of 9 hours of straight football.

True. It wasn't for the fans, but for money. OTOH, a fan could go to the nearest high school game on a Friday night, the nearest college game on a Saturday and the nearest NFL game on a Sunday. No conflicts; you could go to all three.

I love Sunday football. Its almost like a mini holiday every week. Get grocery shopping done early. Figure out what the football snacks are for the day. If there is a London game there is football from 9:30am - 11:00pm. If not 1pm -11:00pm. NFL Sundays are the best time of year.

8:12 I think at least here in America its not big of a deal because we end up getting 3 days straight of football. We get high school football on Friday and they are starting to be aired out on espn and high school teams are starting to fly across the country to play each other now. College football is Saturday and then Sunday we get the nfl. So for us, we really don't care we get three straight days of football so Im not complaining at least.

This Sunday decision is a little bit because of the fans. Long before the NFL wanted to become a national power in the 1950s high school football have been played on Fridays and college football on Saturdays dating back to the 1870s. In order to get their games nationally televised the NFL had to Compromise with Congress to ensure that they would not interfere with high school or college football games. That would protect the fans and the development system of the sport.

@cerberus2654 Жыл бұрын
He's got a point though. The NFL has always been about maximizing profits. Remember it was congress, not the NFL, that implemented those clauses in the bill.
@jckdnls9292 Жыл бұрын
@@cerberus2654 yeah but it's those clauses that make it so that nothing can get in the way of watching football on Sunday.. So that I, THE FAN, don't have to worry about the game not being on a Sunday. Whter they did it on purpose or not, you gotta admit, the fan came out winning.

meh... I don't really see the benefit you're trying to speak of, but alright 👍🏼......I was just saying, Daz makes a good point, that any decision the NFL makes is never with the fans' best interest at heart, since the fans are seen as nothing more than cash cows to be milked dry.

@@cerberus2654 the benefit is, compared to the NBA, MLB NHL, where you're always wondering if there's a game a certain night and you have to check your schedule or can't make plans until u check ur schedule, but the nfl u know it's Sunday and that's it.

Football is complicated in the US. In many places, such as where I live in Cincinnati, high school football is up there with college and the pros in terms of popularity and it has an important place in the local culture, not just throughout the city, but also the whole state of Ohio. The next level, college football, throughout the US, is thought to be a better game than the pros in the minds of a lot of football fans and I myself like college football as much as the pros, mostly because by rule the teams are under constant change from year to year and yet there is more a sense of "the brotherhood" in college football that doesn't exist as much in the pros. The dedication of Friday nights to high school and Saturdays to college has gone unchanged all these years, because to us Americans, they are different games than the pros and we like the differences.
@binxbolling Жыл бұрын
I think you just inadvertently solved the mystery of why college football stadiums are often bigger than NFL stadiums -- more dependence on attendance money.
@krayzy932 Жыл бұрын
Eh. Yes, but only because tv money wasn't an option. Fans had to attend the game if they wanted to watch their favorite team. Only one of the top 20 largest college stadiums was built in the era of television (and that is pushing it since tv's weren't still that popular in 1960). Most were built from 1910 to 1940. Newer college stadiums are either the size of NFL stadiums or smaller (because the school is smaller).
@meowski617 Жыл бұрын
@@krayzy932Look at what happened this past summer with PAC-12 football. Couldn’t negotiate TV rights and now teams leaving for other conferences across the country completes changes the look of all of college sports. At this point, college football (and college basketball to a lesser extent) need to create their own “league” away from the traditional conferences structure because it’s messing with all of the other sports that those schools participate in which isn’t fair to those athletes.
