Hey everyone! Unfortunately Franklins was closed on the day that we tried to eat BBQ food so we ended up trying out Coopers instead! After getting hooked on it, I (Lia) also ate my last BBQ (barbecue) at Salt Lick in the airport which I would go as far as saying was even better than Coopers!

I toured England several decades ago. I'm from Texas. While where I ate was not of my choosing, I found the food mostly inedible. Over a course of 3 weeks there, I lost 10 pounds, which I didn't need to lose. The service was okay. Besides that, I loved England.

@@ibosquez5238 I am thinking that the service and food was subpar because they were servicing busloads of people en mass. They were connected to a travel agency that bundled the services. But the food was bland and not appealing at all. I did get addicted to living on cookies and tea.

Probably Boiled British beef...ugh! Or Pot Roast...Not the best. I can see a big slab of unmentionable, unremarkable beef hitting the oven for several hours and then falling apart when you slice it. No flavor, just digestible matter and protein. Heaven knows, I'm in America and had that more than once growing up. It was the Baby Boomers and their parents who invented that concept. Post WWII utopia and such. A roast in every oven sort of thing.

Glad you enjoyed that! I wouldn’t advertise that you don’t eat beef while standing in a Texas BBQ place. You might start a riot and get tarred and feathered. Cobbler as a dessert actually derives from the shoe repair definition. A cobbler is a fruit pie with one cakelike crust in a deep dish. It comes from early American history when the woman of the house didn’t have the time to make pie crust and would just “cobble something together.” What you are referring to as a crumble, we have too, it’s a little different. The crust is more of loose, dry topping that gets browned a little and isn’t thick or cakey. And hang onto your hats, we call that a “crisp.” Apple crisp, peach crisp, etc. There’s also Apple Brown Betty which is similar. “Pecan” is pronounced “puh CONN” in the North and “PEE can” in the South.

Thanks for this fun video! There are actually several different distinct styles of American BBQ, depending on the city or region you're in. Different regions use different sauces, for example, between Texas, St. Louis, Kansas City, Chicago, and North and South Carolina. Different regions and cities will even emphasize different meats. Texas is big on brisket, for example, but the Carolinas favor pulled pork, and Chicago, St. Louis and Kansas City emphasize ribs.

Like styles of chili, which style of barbecue is usually a matter of exchanging fighting words. And it's not just the US where you can find some amazing barbecue in the Americas: when I visited Tegucigalpa in Hoduras, my hosts took me to a fantastic Hoduran barbecue (El Patio) that I could easily have just moved into, never to eat anywhere else again. I love all kinds of Barbecue, but that is easily in the top five best barbecue restaurants I've ever eaten at - well played, Honduras! Here in the U.S., I've also had some fantastic barbecue at restaurants run by Peruvian immigrants as well... I suspect there are some great barbecue styles to be found all over Central and South America.

I was driving through TX and stopped for BBQ. It was late and we still had to drive a few hours that night. We were also low on funds but decided we could afford a single slice of chocolate pie and coffee. The waitress brought us two huge pieces of pie and say “if you’re going to be driving tonight y’all need pie. I hate it when people from other countries call fast food American food. THIS is American food. And I can make a better burger on my grill than McDonald’s could ever hope to make. There are so many "American Foods" that are so amazingly delicious, that it "grinds my gears" when self-hating Americans themselves states all American food is fast food. I created a list of strictly 30 american dishes off memory, and the person on the discussion board never responded. Sad....I love going to parts of the states (I am from California) and trying their regional food....when I went to New England, I ate nothing but seafood. Montana and South Dakota...wild game meats and Native American type dishes. Louisiana has all the creole stuff, Texas has beef bbq and chili, etc etc etc. Even foods we "take for granted," i.e. Key Lime Pie, Eggs Benedict, A good Cheeseburger off your home grill, are pure American contributions. P.S. No, I'm not an Elitist. I went to Scotland and loved all of the fresh Lamb dishes, Haggis, Fish and Chips, and salmon. :)

I'm a large man and I have to sit sidesaddle on them. When they first entered the restaurant, I thought it was James Beard Award Winning "Louis Mueller Barbecue" in Taylor TX until I saw Cooper's logo on the brick wall, a similar building interior. BTW, traditionally Louis Mueller served it's Cue with either White Bread or Saltine Crackers and absolutely no Barbecue Sauce, nothing but Vinegar with Crushed Peppers or simple prepared Hot Sauces like Krystal or Louisiana. I now see, being marketed at the local grocer's, an entire line of Barbecue Sauces bearing Louis Mueller's name. The place is now owned by his grown children. I wonder how the late Louis would feel about this?

You made a great choice. Any place can oven cook or boil meat, add sauce and call it BBQ, but authentic BBQ is cooked in a pit and smoked. Joel doesn't like beef, isn't a good excuse for at least not taking a single bit, just to try it. That's the point of going, to taste test things.
