I was one of the drummers for JR Brown during 97 through 98. This song was one of my favorite song's to play and the rhythm is fairly quick. I always liked playing the ending of this song because it was so solid and to the point. There were a lot of times he would really stretch out the music and improvise and you had better be paying close attention. There was no room for slacking off and you had better be on your toes every night. Sometimes during a show he would play a blues style song and he would really stretch it out and go into this jazz blues type improvisation and you never knew what he was going to do with it or where it would go. You would just let the music flow and go with what was being played. It could get very interesting when this happened because none of it was ever planned and it was different everytime. JR is not limited by just one style like everyone thinks. He can play Rock, Blues,Jazz, Hawaiian, Old style country, and he plays it all exceptionally well. I was soaking wet after every show. It was a pretty tough gig at times but very satisfying and rewarding. I learned a lot from him.

@@chasvonplatten1298 Imagine what it must've been like for Stevie Ray Vaughn's band mates. So much of Jazz and Blue's, is improvisation and that's why it seems so effortless. You're going with the flow, even though you know where you're going, these guys still took you on crazy detours. Fun stuff.

True story. I've lived in Austin for 56 years, and had a favorite neighborhood tavern named 'Henry's' where friends and my wife and I would meet for an occasional few pitchers of ice cold brew. One day, back in about the early 90's my friend called me and asked if my wife and I would like to meet him at Henry's and listen to some live music -- some guy named Junior Brown was playing there for free -- we had no idea who he was, but what the heck, free music and cold beer! About the second pitcher, Junior showed up with Ms. Tanya, a stand up bass player, and a drummer with just a snare drum. There weren't but about 30-40 people in the place. That night we all became avid Junior Brown fans -- I was completely blown away by one of the best live musical performances I've ever seen. Junior is a unique, Texas classic.

As I sat there waiting for the cop pondering my future waiting for the cop to come back to my car..! Eureka, my Jr. Brown CD. I cued up “highway patrol”. I said this seems appropriate. He goes WOW Jr Brown I saw him about a month ago. He went on a rave about the show. He let me go with a warning and no other questions. I drove off saying “ Thank you Jesus, Thank you Jr.

I noticed him grabbing a machine screw and making a tune adjustment on that string. What amazes me about that is how his hearing can be so keen to detect it and get it tuned where he wants it without even missing a lick on his performance, and we the listener not even noticing anything was off to begin with. I've seen other performers do it, but it's still amazing.

Thank you for going through all of these dynamics. This playing is just absolutely, outrageously fantastic. I would give a right pinky finger to play like this. I have tried to teach myself to play like this, but this is just a God-given talent that not every musician can master…or I have not. ❤️

I saw Junior Brown in a club in Winston-Salem, NC around 97 or 98. He was incredible. I loved your analysis of what Junior was doing and how he did it. Thanks.

A few years ago I went to see Junior Brown. It was a very small venue so I was close to the stage. The feeling I got watching him play was the same as when watching a great magician. You just logically know that what you are witnessing can't really be happening but you don't know how it was done. Completely transfixed by his playing, singing and energy.

Thank God you jumped in, my head was going to explode if you didn't. I've seen videos on him, he's definitely a one off, and that crazy contraption. Then there's the hat. It all is a visual and audio performance that leaves a person wondering what they just witnessed. An unbelievable talent.

This is the 1st time I have had the pleasure of watching Fil break down an artist, explain technique. I love Junior Brown BUT the joy in Fil's face as he is watching Junior play really made me smile. Fil's understanding, explanations are so fun to watch. "I" am a bass man but you gotta love Fil... Thanks Brother, awesome job...👍

Thanks for breaking down his magic. I’ve seen a couple times and continue to be amazed at his skill and technique. The broad swath of diversity among his fans and his music is something to behold.
