I am not a musician, but I've watched a number of your videos. I'm 72 and I appreciate how you explain why these songs -- country, pop, rock and roll - that I love and are part of my early life are so good. I have a better understanding of what make music great. After all these years, I still get chills when I hear this song ❤️ 💚 💙 💜 Few Fun Facts: They got their name from some black marines who saw them perform as the “Paramours” in 1963 & they shouted, “that was righteous brothers!” Also, the infamous Cher was part of the backing vocals, before she became famous, & last but not least, their manager booked them into a black nightclub in Watts, California before they got big, & the patrons of the club started throwing things at them on stage when they saw they were white, & The Righteous Brothers didn't know what to do, so they just started singing, & all the patrons sat down with their mouths open, & wouldn't let them leave after that, & the term, Blue Eyed Soul, was born 😃 👓 👓 😃

Two of the most beautiful and powerful voices ever that blended so incredibly well together. At 25 years old, they were so incredibly polished in their vocals it's mind blowing how incredibly polished they were at such young ages. I think both singers and the righteous Brothers had what was told to me is absolute pitch. There's perfect pitch and then there's a step above perfect pitch, absolute bitch. I've seen someone able to vocalize with absolute pitch. When I was in high school concert band we would tune up every day. We had a meter that we could all see and tell if we are sharp or flat. A professor from USF came out to direct US during one of our rehearsals and he pointed to a friend of mine that was playing Timpani, and called him out for being out of tune. He turned to the tuning unit and set it to the correct key in pitch for the timpani, then hummed the note. The tuner had a dial that would spin left or right depending on if you are sharp or flat. Usually when someone was tuning their instrument there would be a slight waiver back and forth with the dial. When he sang the note the dial spun to the center and didn't move at all. It kind of left me dumb struck! But anyhow long story aside when you're 63 you tend to do that, I think they have absolute pitch.

Phil. I love your in-depth, intelligent analysis of not only Bobby and Bill, but all the artists. I love the way you say Bobby's name. They were working a small club outside El Toro marine Base in El Toro Ca. when a Marine shouted out, "That's righteous, Brother! I think you should read Bill's book called "The Time of my life" and read chapter 25. The day Bobby died, he and Bill flew in from L.A. Bill said that Bobby was "chalky," didn't feel well, and said that he would have dinner in his room. The last words Bill heard from Bobby were, "Yeah, I'll see you later, Beany." He went to his room and died. They found him lying on his bed with the tv remote in his hand and no cocaine. Bobby was exhausted and in bad health. He didn't take care of himself. So he just laid it all down, after over 40 years of giving all he had to his fans and his music. He was an amazing man, husband and father. All Bobby ever had to do was hold a mic, sing, and a whole nation of women fell in love. That's the best testimony you could give for any singer. I know I haven't mentioned Bill much, but he is also a remarkable human being, a great baritone. As with Bobby, there would have been no Righteous Brothers without Bill. At the age going on 81 he's still singing. P.S. Bobby was not a cocaine addict!

who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks ? decades of listing to this song I had no clue they were adding the same types of instruments to get that quality sound ! the younger generation are now reacting to the music from back in the day and they all love it . but there is one young man going a step further he does analysis of said songs . Fil does a lot of searching of who he will be analyzing on this day . though I can't play or sing a note I know what music I like. Fil will tell us things we never caught in the music side of the song , we all know the voices are great we know the music was great but Fil let us know why the Righteous Brothers '' you've lost that loving feeling '' was a great song ! doubling and tripling instruments genius ! and an added plus Fil is a singer and plays his own music as well ! he is defiantly Qualified for this ! Thank You FIL And He Has A Beautiful Smile !❤

I was a little girl when this song hit the airwaves. I loved it then and now after watching your ‘tutorial’, I appreciate the production genius of Phil Spector and the perfectly matched harmonies of Bill and Bobby even more. You have provided us with detailed insight into why this version by the RB has captivated audiences for decades. Thank you.

I woke up to this one morning on my radio alarm. I find when one is only subconscious, one really is not opinionated and can listen as through someone else's ears. Laying there it was so easy to hear both singers as they sung their parts. Its almost like being in the studio wearing 3 sets of phones. a beautifully done song
@catloverkitten105 жыл бұрын
MrMrwilson11 That partially conscious thing is so true. Long time ago I was woken from a deep sleep to Eric Clapton singing You Look Beautiful Tonight on SNL. It was mesmerizing and I've never heard him perform it so beautifully since. Weird thing was, my sister, whose not even into music that much. had the exact experience when we talked on the phone next morning. The transcendent power of music.

@@catloverkitten10 it also happened to me with "The WOrk Song" by the Butterfield Blues band. You hear so much more without opinion biasing things

Phil, every once in a while I come back and listen to your analyses. Always pick up something I didn't before. I listened to "Lovin' Feeling" again and your post comments. There was just one thing. When Bobby and Bill were separated, Bobby was the one to fall on hard times, not Bill. Bill was doing better, but he needed Bobby, and he knew it. So he went to him and they got together, recorded "Rock n' Roll Heaven, which charted in the top 10, 1974, I think. They separated one more time after the tragic murder of Bill's wife. They reunited after a few years, and stayed together until Bobby's death in 2003. Those two needed each other, there was never or ever will be a duo like them. Their performance at the Hall of Fame was so amazing. loss of some range didn't make a difference, they were still amazing. And The Wall of Sound re-created by the band leader/director was great. Bobby was gone 8 months later. But Bill, at the age of 81, is still going. He will be here in Arizona on Nov. 12th in Phoenix. I have a ticket, but unfortunately won't be able to go. Thanks, I know I get long-winded but I am a stickler for details. Thank you for your amazing knowledge, thank you for sharing. Dawna Lea

Fil, I absolutely just sit back and listen to your explanations. It can be guitar or vocals and all the nuances of a complete production. But your history lessons and musianship from you is so great. I’m older, not quite this old but I heard this many times. Just to hear a young musician and singer like you that knows and loves music and has no jealously just a love and appreciation of other talented like minded people. Thank you young man

Excellent, excellent, excellent and, finally, excellent. What can I say; I'm a man of few words. I grew up with the Righteous Brothers, so the melody was part of my fond memories, but your analysis and commentary (historical interlude ... maybe?) were, dare I say, excellent? Truly, your commentary was beyond what I would have hoped for, and I am only sorry to have heard it on your video so late after production. Thank you.

These guys had extremely heavy air play on the transistor AM radios of the day. Since there was no social media, AM radio was how most related to the different acts. Most Blacks of that era thought the Righteous Bros were also Black and on the Motown label. The 45's purchased came in basic paper sleeve covers so no picture of the actual group. Only when acts appeared on shows like Ed Sullivan for the first time did the average folks actually see faces to place with their radio sound. I remember Monday morning following the show that the half of class which was Black were in stunned disbelief that who these guys were. They, like the other balladeers of the day were suddenly seen as old fashioned as the Beatles changed the music and looks forever.
@catloverkitten105 жыл бұрын
bob wallace I don't know. Even though I idolized the Beatles I never thought they were irrelevant. Quite the contrary. After all, everything the Beatles were was indebted to the blues, to black musicians from as early as depression era.

I was a senior in high school when this song was released. It , to me, is a true vocal classic!! Your explanation of the how and why, shows people the expertise and brilliance of these young men. It shows what talent and hard work can do. No auto tune, just two talented men and a producer with an idea can do. As you pointed out this song is still a hit 57 years later. Thank you!!

Many thumbs up Fil!!!!! & of course I always see my dear Elvis with his back to the crowd during the intro & when all the sounds come crashing together, he turns to everyone & takes it all over in his spectacular way - yet remaining true to his obvious enjoyment of The Righteous Brothers and how they performed it.
