Idaho is known for its potatoes. In fact, its license plates even say, "Famous Potatoes." As others have mentioned, tremendous numbers of people came to America from Ireland during the potato famine in the 1840s (Ireland's population is still lower than it was in 1840).

That Arizona scene is a parody of the desert scene from the movie "The Doors". Dude, the potato famine in Ireland. Seems pretty straightforward to me. The Obama Monument: one of the more pernicious racist tropes is that black guys are more, * ahem *, endowed than white guys.

Here are 14 of the references from what's shown after Nebraska...... Grab a glass of water, because it's a super long comment...... ________________________________________ Atlantic City, New Jersey is known for it's gambling more than anything for the city. ________________________________________ The New Mexico one has to do with the fact that the hit show "Breaking Bad" was highlighted, and filmed in the state __________________________________________ The North Carolina one has to do with the Wright brothers being from there. The brothers invented the airplane/aeroplane in NC. ________________________________________ The Ohio one has to do with the fact Thomas Edison was from the "Buckeye State". Edison was credited for the invention of the electric industry. (We now know Nikolai Tesla did that) _________________________________________ My home state of Pennsylvania has to do with the fact Pennsylvania is known for Amish people the most. Trust me, we're known for so much more. _________________________________________ Ohhhh, the South Carolina one is dark. Pre-Civil War, South Carolina was known as the state of slavery, and the slave trade. (Thankfully, thinks changed for the better) _________________________________________ The Tennessee one is for the fact that Nashville, TN is known for music. Specifically, country music. _________________________________________ Utah is pretty much known for it's Mormonism. As that's where the religion got it's origin. ________________________________________ The Vermont of has to do with Ben & Jerry's because there's where Ben & Jerry's creamery is located _________________________________________ The Virgina one has to do with the fact that the American Civil War took place in the state of Virginia the majority of the war. Though, it is true, Ulysses S. Grant was a drunk, but he was an exceptional commander when he drunk. You'll know that if you watch Oversimplified's Civil War video. _________________________________________ The Washington state one has to be baristas, and the fact that most of the female baristas are heavy-set lesbians. (That's a "Family Guy observation" thing. Where they show off that observation) _________________________________________ The Washington, DC one had to to be with the fact that DC (as it's nickname is) is the United States' capital. It also shows off the stereotype that black people's private area is bigger than white people's. _________________________________________ Wisconsin is known for it's dairy products. Especially it's cheese. ________________________________________ Wyoming is known as the "Cowboy State". They don't shy away from that nickname for the state.

The virginia one is a reference to the many historical sites where they do historical reenactments, particularly around Williamsburg, and Charlottesville. Some are very historically accurate, and some are a little qwerky. Somewhere in Virginia is one of those fiberglass sculpture parks, where they tell a fictional story of how the dinosaurs helped the south win the Civil War. Bartman caught a foul ball that would have been an easy out for the Cubs vs the Marlins. This occured in 8th inning of Game 6 of the National League Championship Series. Marlins entered the inning down 3-0, scored 8 runs that inning. The 9th inning was scoreless. Won the game 8-3, and forced a Game 7 which they would win. Marlins win series 4 games to 3 and move on to World Series (the MLB championship). Marlins beat Yankees in World Series.

Pennsylvania is very Amish which they show with the barn building. They live very religious lives and don’t use modern machines unless it doesn’t actually belong to them. They are very industrious building things fast but also have certain rights of passage they do at certain ages. They also only have an 8th grade education most times unless they actually physically leave the Amish during the final right of passage and break all ties they have to the church and to family. It’s a hard choice but about 75% of age Amish leave during the right of passage and join the modern world. Most end up in farming or other jobs that are lower in status but some end up very high. They all get the education they missed out on when they leave. It’s normal. Like pro model Kate Stotz or something like that as she became a model right from leaving the Amish world and right now she’s trying to learn fashion design. There are a lot of stories from there. Just listen to a few you’ll see and well you get to understand everything they had problems with.

I think the Idaho and Irish link was because of the Irish potato famine in the 1840's. Both places are famous for potatos. The Washington/Obama Monuments were because that it is believed that black men have larger penises than white men, and the monuments were phallic symbols representing each man by their supposed size.

These subjects aren't that touchy. You should hear the states make fun of each other. Colleges ripping each other is brutal. 14:20 It is a load of trash. Probably being barged in from NYC & Boston? 16:19 This is a reference to Ulysses Grant being a drunk. Which he in fact wasn't. It was a Presidential opponent that labeled him a drunk and it stuck. He was violently ill if he drank more than the smallest glass of wine. Interesting how falsehoods stick around. Going over you head is fine. A lot in the US don't get some of these either.

You should know about the Irish potato famine. Family Guy is full of inside and pop culture jokes, most non Americans probably miss 90 percent or more. Hell most Americans probably miss 10 percent of the references themselves. For instance Dolly Wood, is a Dolly Parton (country singer) themed attraction in Tennessee. Similar to Graceland for Elvis in Mississippi. The Arizona scene was a reference to the rock band The Doors. The barn rebuilding for Pennsylvania was the Amish (religious sect that rejects modern amenities like electricity). Those ships were trash barges, that travel up and down the N.E. coast. Etc...

Idk, the thing that bugs me about Family Guy is sometimes it seems like they are deliberately trying to annoy me with Conroy Twitty. Also, all states have their up sides and doen sides and most of the people telling you downsides of California have probably never been there, just like my family is afraid of Portland, a lovely city where I work, because they watch politicized news.

Exactly. I live in California, not that far away from San Francisco (closer to Oakland, but I go to SF regularly for events or just to have a nice dinner with friends), and these rumors of a hell hole full of human feces, discarded needles and homeless people are just not true. Are there problems? Yes, but it's not even close to how right wingers describe it. Then again, it's no different than back in the day when the right wing rumors about Oakland was that people, especially white people, were afraid to step outside of their homes lest one of the hoards of black gang members roaming the streets gun them down just for looking at them.
