I'm from Florida and you can see sharks in the water in waist deep water. Also if you can't swim stay out of the ocean. It's really easy to get accidentally pulled out and under by the current in the ocean. Just go to the pool.

We have tiger sharks in knee deep water so if you are going in the water in FL expect there to be sharks nearby, even if you can't see them. Shark bite capital of the world here but that is again just bites. Most people don't die or suffer extreme bites. We got a lot of small sharks since Australia put up great white nets. On a clear day if you go up a lighthouse you can see the shark shadows on the beaches all around the swimmers.

Historically the only critters in the everglades you had to worry about (besides the Florida Panther which is Very rare and occasionally a black bear which usually run away from Humans), were big Gators, and from EXPERIENCE I can say all you need is a good stout Louisville slugger with a Whump on the snout will discourage the most aggressive Gator. Now days though you have to worry about Burmese Pythons, but I don't recall anyone having been ate by one. Feral Pigs have become a problem now also, but make good fodder for the Pythons, a full Python is a reasonably safe one.

Alligators look scary but really, they're not that aggressive like crocs. Living in Florida it's common to see people swimming in the water with them. At a respectable distance of course. Majority of the animals here stay away from humans. Usually the attacks are from the ones that humans stupidly started to feed. Or they attack a small child or dog. Or you're messing with them. Keep your distance and you'll be fine. Goes for majority of the animals. Most deaths there are usually vehicle related or drowning.

When I last went to Florida my parents and I went to that beach, the weather was bad so I didn't bother swimming but my parents wanted to. The lifeguard had been bitten by a shark himself and had a bandage on his leg. My parents decided to not go for a swim that day

Lake mead is an artificial lake created by the Hoover dam. It used to be a rock canyon see where the rock turns white that is actually a water line of where the water was in years past. Hoover dam was featured in the game fallout new Vegas as the final battle spot. The battle was created because it provided enough power across Nevada. Hoover dam is one big hydro electric engine that the concrete hasn’t fully dried on yet and it won’t until the end of time practically.

You can be attacked by some species of shark in water that comes up to your knees or mid-calf depending on the size of the shark. A lot of the attacks in Florida come from shallow water and the shark responsible most of the time is the Blacktip Reef Shark which is a pretty timid species, however, they're curious and it's that curiosity that brings them in close to people... they don't have hands, so they use their mouth to find out if you are edible and most people who die from the attack don't die because they're torn apart, but from a singular bite that hits an artery and as a result die of blood loss.

Sharks can get into very shallow waters. Some even accidentally beach themselves.
@ThatShyGuyMatt

Here are some fun facts about sharks. 1. There are sand sharks that essentially can go up to almost where the water touches the sand (the shallows essentially). Mind you they are very small. So you technically should watch where you step. But from what I recall, they have never bitten anyone since they are skittish (afraid) of us. 2. Sharks get a bad reputation for being dangerous and killers, but it's not really the case. Almost all attacks on humans are only done so because the human looked like a sharks normal prey. For example if your paddling out into the water on a surfboard, from the sharks view below you, you look like a big sea lion or things like that. So it goes to bite you thinking it's what you are. But they let go when they realize it's not their prey. Hence you usually only get bit once. If they really hunted humans, they would eat us all, not just take a bite. Granted an accidental bite is still bad news for us of course. 3. Sharks tend to be sensitive in their gills, nose and eyes. If you see an attack coming, best to aim for those areas and try to get the shark to flee. Again though, unlike in movies, you usually don't see the shark coming because it comes up from the bottom.

The bear attacks in Alaska are often to hunters. Bears have learned that when they hear the rifle shot it means a food kill and they come running. Experienced hunters use the buddy system, one to get their kill and one to keep a look out and protect their friend from hungry bears.

To answer your question about New Smyrna Beach and sharks, yes, they do come up that close -- during migration and mating seasons. It's not hard: Stay out of the water during migrations and mating seasons and you'll be fine. But sharks have been known to come up in just 2 feet of water, so you have to keep your eyes open and be aware of your environment. Also, swim when it's cooler -- they dislike cooler waters, although some rogues will show up on occasion, they tend to prefer warmer waters when the fish food sources are plentiful.

Black bears were just spotted making inroads into recolonizing Indiana this week. Blond bears are a new thing, mostly in Alaska and Canada, where grizzlies and polar bears are spending more time together as the pack ice takes longer to form each year, and hybrids are born with peculiar, unpredictable habits. There was a viral video of a teenage girl slamming into a black bear recently, pushing it off her garden wall to protect her dogs. Fyi, most shark attacks, the massive share of them, happen in less than six feet of water. People are often mistaken for seals, sea lions, and giant turtles, especially in dawn and dusk light. As well, because many shark stocks have been over fished, many niches in the ocean previously held by sharks are adapting to squid taking the top predator spot instead. For instance, you cannot safely go swimming in the Gulf of California any longer, or so I've heard, because the booming numbers of Humboldt Squid make it a death trap in many places, especially at night. I'd think moose would have made the list for Yellowstone, second most dangerous animal in the world, after hippos (and not counting mosquitos).

Sometimes all you see of sharks is a slight shadow in the water and people can’t tell the difference at all. We have a healthy shark fishing system in Florida especially around new symerna. We keep only one shark not bull, nurse or certain species but smaller stuff that we can actually eat. It takes a while to get the shark even ready to become food as you have to rinse every part with salt water, boil it for hours, or dry it for shark fin soup which we must use the entire animal not throwing it back after getting the fins. Yeah it’s takes a long time but it is good once you eat it once.

My college was on a decently sized chunk of woods (nickname was “the university in the forest,” and our mascot was a “ranger”), but also less than a 15 minute walk from town and with residential streets on other sides of campus, so hardly in the middle of nowhere. Anyway, we would get campus-wide emails at LEAST once or twice a school year about bears being spotted in nearby neighborhoods, and reminding us what to do if you meet a black beat lol. Actual attacks are fairly rare, but sightings are super common in a lot of places, especially ones where there used to be lots of wilderness that was demolished. Can you imagine getting up after hibernating and your forest is now just a couple trees? No habitat for the animals you used to hunt, your water sources likely drained or covered up, and weird hairless things walking around on two legs everywhere? I’d dig through some trash cans or drink out of koi ponds too!!

I was wading in about 12" of water & a 5-6 foot shark came swimming by exactly where I was after I backed out of the water. Depends on where you are as to what type shark will likely bite you .. but in open oceans (not usually the Gulf) the most bites have been made by the Great White. Then you have Bull, Black Tip & Tiger shark bites. Of course the oceans/Gulf/bays are the sharks homes .. we are the visitors. Expect sharks to be there!! Btw: you have all these boat excursions now where they take u deep sea fishing. The crews usually "chum" the water to lure the fish in. Where there's all these great fish to catch .. there's shark not far behind hunting them. Plus the chum is free food to a lot of fish. So many large fish follow boats .. think about how dolphins swim beside boats. I think it's possible the large fish get used to food from boats .. they follow boats .. brings them closer to people more often .. then more people get bit eventually. Another example of where humans are messing up the eco system. Just my thoughts on it anyway.

Me and my guy were swimming in Ormond Beach when something touched his leg. He reached down and pulled out a dead hammerhead shark baby. While he was pondering the significance of his catch, I was swimming to get out of the water asap. The baby hammerhead may not be a problem but the mommy who gave birth to him may still be in the area. Needless to say, many people still flock to beaches to swim and play. I guess if there are 200 people in the water, you are less likely to be the one the shark picks to eat. FYI-shark attacks are more prevalent in the early morning and evening hours. They are attracted to splashing and wet suits as the black suits look like seals to the optically challenged fish. Most hotels here have nice size pools. Cool, refreshing and no sharks. Love your channel.

Yeah I think sharks do get really close to the shore. when they get that close, I think it’s when they are hunting between sand bars close to sunrise and sunset probably when the tides are changing maybe

Hawai'i is very dangerous if youre not from here. People with no knowledge underestimate our oceans or over estimate their own abilities on hikes. Many tourists get lost, go missing, drift out to sea or die in the waves when the swells are up

Probably wise. I was a teenager in the '80s, and Action Park was the place you went with friends in the summer to engage in underage drinking and pot smoking, while your parents thought you were doing something really wholesome (I guess word hadn't reached our parents yet - it was only the early '80s...).

I knew Lake Mead would be on the list! I've been to several places and survived. (Lake Mead, Yosemite, Yellowstone, Golden Gate Park.) Just don't be stupid, listen to the rangers, follow the signs. Don't try to get impressive selfies, which I think are bad examples of photography anyway. I've seen so many people get in the way of others, hop up on protective walls, cross barriers, and do all sorts of dumb things trying to get selfies.

To answer you’re question about the sharks. I’m not familiar with the Atlantic Ocean, but on the Gulf of Mexico we had “sand bars” that would get shallow again after it gets deeps and from time to time sharks would make it past those and come feed close to the shoreline

Other people have said this below me, but as long as you don't climb over any barriers, follow basic safety precautions and use common sense you'll almost surely be fine. Of course accidents do happen, but still don't let this scare you.

I am deathly afraid of sharks and never went into the ocean, although my MIL loved it and I took her to St Pete's Beach in Florida every summer for years. The last year we went, I was determined to go into the ocean. As we approached the beach, there was a man fishing, knee deep, with a small line of fish he had caught on a leader attached to his waist. I watched as a shark jumped out of the water, snatched the fish (tearing the whole line off his swim trunks) and swam away. Back to the pool for me!

Sharks can come right up to the beach...I'm not sure if that's where the attacks are tho...I've never seen one. I like going between the 1st and 2nd breaker and bob up and down in the warm water. I've seen locals doing that while drinking their beer...not spilling a drop...not that it would matter much.

National Parks are safe if you stay with the guides and follow the rules. Niagara Falls is one of the most beautiful sites you will see and hear Roaring! The Grand Canyon - what can be said. Even when you fly over it the pilot will point it out and you can look at it for hours. Follow the rules of all National Parks and you will be safe.

Sharks have started coming close to the shore because are seas are over fished, so they are coming closer to shore to get the fish that used humans don’t eat, and if you’re swimmer or a surfer the shake will come for you thinking you are food.

As a person who drowned twice as a child, learn how to swim as soon as you can. It may seem like a useless talent but once you learn you can relax in the water and stay afloat with very little effort. And if you gain a bunch of weight you can just use your fat to float!

Sharks are curious, so they come up as close as they can. Over years of humans going to the beach, sharks have learned that humans equal things such as possible food. Not that they see us as food, but they know we through things in the water. And if you swim and have a cut that is open , that can spark the sharks feeding instincts
