Sir, that is not a violin 7:48 is a fiddle. Yes, they are the same instrument. But a violin has strings, and a fiddle has strangs. RIP Charlie. He was a legend. He passed away in 2020. @jamescurfman3284 my dad told me, years ago, that he saw Charlie and some classical violinist from some orchestra, on a late night show. The violinist was very condescending towards Charlie, and Charlie just picked up his instrument and played a specific classical piece, no sheet music. Mic drop moment. I have hunted for the clip on KZbin. I'm 47, so I was around when the devil went down to Georgia was released, and dad watched the late night shows religiously. I just can't remember which show it was. It was long before I was allowed to stay up that late. But if you can find it, great. I've spent at least an hour hunting every few months.

for a couple of years, my youngest daughter begged and begged for a violin. i explained to her that the violin wasn't an instrument that you could approach casually. if you wanted to play it, you had to dedicate yourself to it. finally i relented and picked up a violin for her. she practiced a LOT and within 6 months of first laying her hands on it, she was playing 1st chair violin in the local youth orchestra (a small city of about 100,000). one day as she was practicing, she asked me, _"Daddy, what's the difference between a violin and a fiddle?"_ without looking up from my book, i replied, _"Attitude."_

This song came out in May, 1979. I remember me and my cousins in early 1981, cranking this song on one of the first “Boomboxes” and basically “lip syncing” to this song in my bedroom with one of us on the guitar(tennis racket,) another on keyboard(Casio 10-key) and the last one on fiddle (badminton racket with a ruler as the bow!) Now, they(brothers) are both gone in their early 50’s, less than 2 years apart and it’s just ME to keep those memories alive! Thank you for the trip down Memory Lane!!!!

If you think the keyboardist playing with one hand is awesome, take a look at Def Leppard. Their drummer was in an auto accident, if I remember correctly, and lost an arm. One late night in central Pennsylvania in 1978, our phone rang and my dad was called in for an emergency at work. (coach bus company) A tour bus had broken down on the Interstate (81) A band was going from Saratoga springs to Alabama over night. It was the Charlie Daniels band, possibly later the night after this show. Dad came home with some stories 3 days later that make Willie Nelson's tour bus sound tame.

Charlie was one of the best storytellers in music. Between Devil Went Down to Georgia and The Legend of Wooley Swamp he was untouchable. During the 70s Charlie, Jim Croce, David Gates and his band Bread, Gordon Lightfoot, Don McLean, Harry Chapin and James Taylor were the storytellers who ruled the pop/rock charts. Yup, Charlie wasn't just a country star but a pop/rock star (they classified him country rock/southern rock similar to Lynyrd Skynyrd and Molly Hatchett).

Little known fact: this song has a sequel, "the Devil comes back to Georgia." In that song, the Devil comes back after several years and challenged Johnny again, but Johnny was out of practice and loses, and the Devil reclaimed the golden fiddle. Over the course of the song Johnny realized that he rested on his laurels and starts producing again and eventually regains his lost skill.

When I was a child, listening to this brand new song in my dad's Buick LeSabre at like 5ish years old, I was almost instantly captivated. And I don't have much love if any for country music as a whole. But the Charlie Daniels band is what got me interested in learning violin. Unfortunately, the orchestra in my school was exclusively classical music, so I didn't learn how to fiddle, but it was still a very fun class overall, and it got me to some pretty cool places.

This is a classic! If you love all these violin solos, I very much recommend reacting to bluegrass music

I have to say this, it was late 1973 and i was stationed at Ft Riley KS, there was a band playing in bars around there and Manhattan Ks which is 20 miles away. They were called Kansas, one of their most unique things was they had a fiddler who was truly fabulous but they didn't play country they were hard core rock and roll and wou)d get to rocking on that fiddle and shake the whole stage. They went onto a lot of great music but if you listen to their first album, which I no longer have you can hear this truly unique sound. I feel they were and only group who made a fiddle rock.

Once upon a time, you would congregate with thousands of people to some enormous outdoor venue (like the Miami Zoo) to see a combination of Southern Rock bands. Charlie Daniels, Allman Brothers, Lynard Skynard, Marshall Tucker, Molly Hatchet, the Outlaws, 38 Special. All huge bands, several playing in the same day. They'd start in the afternoon and shut down the venue by 10pm. That's probably why you see so many people there. They were there to experience the whole thing (though each person had their personal favorites).

That's crazy I was just watching a bunch of reactions to this song and then you react to it an hour later.

My first introduction to this song was in Guitar Hero 3 and my wrists still hurt just hearing the song. For other musical duels there is one that sits at the top of the mountain, "Dueling Banjos" from the movie Deliverance.

This was done in late 1979 or 1980 in Saratoga, New York. At the end where he says "Son Of A Bitch" it had to be edited to "Son Of A Gun" to get air play. It was an outdoor concert that may have had 100k+.

I saw him in concert about 10-20 years before he died and it was incredible but since we lived in South Georgia he waited until the very last song to play this

I love seeing young people enjoying the music of my generation. These songs (both country and rock & roll) were the soundtrack of my life. We old folks were lucky to be able to live this first hand.

One of my favorite country songs. Another is sung by The Highwaymen..Waylen Jennings, Willie Nelson, Chris Cristofferson, and Jonny Cash. The song is Highwayman...1975. One of the best country songs sung by some of the best(legendary) country singers😊
