Please stop calling yourself stupid. There's nothing stupid about broadening your horizons. It's difficult for anyone to find the words to describe something that impresses them, especially quickly and on-the-spot. You're doing a superb job.

Just a fun fact, Charlie Daniels played with everybody in country music and that’s not an exaggeration. He was in more bands and was featured with so many other country artists throughout his life. He wasn’t just good at what he did he was a good dude! RIP Charlie Daniels

A violinist (or fiddle player!) can tell you the devil was playing the tritone forbidden chord, aka "the devil's chord". Johnny brought it all out. Charlie was truly talented, may he RIP.

Yep.. it's commonly referred to as "The devils 3rd".. as I'm sure you know, it was actually BANNED in Europe for hundreds of years.. because the catholic church had declared that chord structure actually brought a demonic presence into the room.. black sabbath used it heavily on theor first album.. thats why they sounded so different from other bands

I remember back in the early 70's when this first came out. There was a real big ruckus, over his use of one word. He had to replace "bitch" with "gun". Otherwise there were radio stations that refused to play it. Great musician...RIP.

My dad was a farmer/truck driver./and coach bus driver. In 1977 (after this Saratoga springs show) my dad was called because their bus broke down near the bus shop, and dad had to drive the Charlie Daniels band to Alabama from PA, for their next show. He said, Willie Nelson's bus would be tame in comparison. This song was in our house daily in the late 70s.

A fun one is "Uneasy Rider" from 1973 by CDB. He later put out one called "Uneasy Rider 88" which is a different story. Of the two songs the best is the original 1973 "Uneasy Rider". It's also a song that tells a story and a very funny one at that.

A touch of Appalachia with the country and rock. Love ♥️ I was in front of him standing in line at the DQ in Carbondale, Illinois, when they played at SIU - Southern Illinois U - in the late '70's. His limo was pulled up waiting and he stood in line. It didn't register on me at the time what was happening. While I was walking away with my chocolate banana shake and saw the limo is when I realized who the really tall, big guy in the cowboy hat & sunglasses was. We had said hello to each other in line though, which yay, at least I was polite. I wish I had known who he was!

Charlie Daniels was one of the best storytellers ever! You should check out “Midnight Train Roll On “. I’m not sure if that’s the actual name. It might just be “Midnight Train “. I had a cassette tape that had awesome Charlie Daniels music back in the 80s or early 90s that was amazing! This is one of my favorites from that album. I know nowadays there aren’t really albums. I’m old school.

Fwiw, in the context of country music and bluegrass, it's the same instrument but it is generally referred to as a fiddle as opposed to a violin. Just like the bass of the string family, which is called a double bass in classical music but in more contemporary music it is referred to as a stand-up or an acoustic bass. The Knack is an absolutely fascinating phenomenon to me and you've probably heard their huge hit, My Sharona. It's a great song and it became so popular and played so much Weird Al Yankovic did a cover of it. It's actually a great song with a fantastic guitar solo. But I like every single song off of that Get the Knack album. 1980 I believe.

Now that you've heard "The Devil Went Down to Georgia" you need to hear the sequel. Mark O'Connor put out an album called "Heroes" in which he plays duets with all of the fiddle players that influenced him. One of the tracks is "The Devil Came Back to Georgia" in which he pairs up with Charlie Daniels to play the next phase of the fiddle challenge. Great stuff!!! Definitely worth chasing down.

There are a lot of live videos of this song, this has to be the best quality, probably professionally produced. This arena is in Saratoga Springs, New York, near my home town. Outside the amphitheater, the lawn continues at the same angle to add thousands who can see concerts but not covered. I have been to dozens of concerts there. Other Charlie Daniels hits I can think up quick: Legend of the Wooly Swamp Uneasy Rider

The song plays on a tradition of musicians going into the southern woods (usually Georgia) and making a deal with the devil and coming back the best musician around. There have been movies, TV specials and other songs built on the same background story. Charlie Daniels was one of the first traditional country artists to cross over into rock. I saw him with The Marshall Tucker Band in KC.

That something else is called Bluegrass, also known as mountain music ie " Hillbilly Music ". The violin is played differently therefore it's called fiddle playing. Fiddles were the hallmark of the bluegrass music genre . Old music brought to Appalachia by the Scot's/Irish who immigrated to that area
