They are called chicken fried and then the name of the food. So if you wanted to make a burger like KFC on the outside. It would be a chicken fried burger

Chicken fried steak is a cut of beef, tenderized, dipped in egg and dredged in flour and then fried in a pan like you'd fry chicken - hence, chicken fried steak. Basically its American style beef schnitzel.

that's country fried steak. Chicken fried steak is the same thing except the oil that is used was saved from the last time you made fried chicken. It lends a slight chicken flavor to it. Then there's chicken fried chicken which is when you fry chicken in the saved oil from the last time you fried chicken...very chickeny

That meat loaf picture looks like it's actually homemade olive or pimento loaf, a cold cut for sandwiches. It is definitely not meat loaf! And, biscuits arent normally savory either, unless you think Red Lobster biscuits with salt, butter and garlic on top are the only biscuits made in the USA. No one I know stacks their cornbread like that and pours honey over it. We usually split one piece in half horizontally, butter it and then put honey on.

That's not what Americans consider meatloaf. Meatloaf is made with ground (minced) beef, onion, peppers, and spices. Think more along the lines of meatballs but in loaf form. Also, my brother saw this and now hates Lawrence for that representation of meatloaf.

Clam chowder is potato soup with clams. You eat with saltine or oyster crackers. Meat loaf is made with ground beef, onions, bell peppers,eggs, bread crumbs, and ketchup. It is shaped into a loaf. My late mother would top hers with bacon. Chicken fried steak is beef, and it's breaded like chicken. The gravy for the biscuits is spicy because some people will use hot(spicy) pork sausage,and the recipe calls for a nice amount of black pepper.

Not sure where Lawrence got that picture, but that is NOT meat loaf. It looks like some kind of spam loaf, but definitely not meatloaf. Meatloaf is hamburger meat and it may be covered with brown gravy and some people put ketchup on top. I love it and it tastes even better the second day. It's beef cooked like fried chicken ergo the name chicken - fried - steak

The white gravy we use for biscuits is made from crumbled breakfast sausage, milk, and flour... then a fair amount of black pepper. The breakfast sausage can have crushed red pepper 🌶!

The meatloaf is not a traditional looking meatloaf but looks like it the ground turkey or ground chicken one. But a traditional meatloaf is ground beef with veggies and a tomato sauce on top. It started as a way to stretch ration portions during the great depression and the wars. Chicken fried steak is a piece of steak that is fried and batted like a piece of chicken that’s why it’s called chicken fried steak

I don't know where he got those stock images of meatloaf but I have made and eaten a lot of meatloaf and I would throw those nasty things at the cook if they tried to pawn that off as meatloaf. Meatloaf is a way for a family to stretch a pound of ground beef into something that can feed the whole family with leftovers for meatloaf sandwiches the next day. Basically, ground beef, an egg, some kind of filler (I've used corn flakes, bread crumbs and oats to name a few) and seasonings to taste smashed together and baked in a loaf pan preferably with a healthy drizzle of ketchup down the center. The description is for Adam as most Americans will have their own receipts but already know the basics. Adam, you should try it sometime, it is delicious with mashed potatoes.

You've never really lived until you've tasted White gravy. The kind used with chicken and chicken friend steak is made only with Flour, milk and pepper. But when it gets added to biscuits or over breakfast, the base has bacon or sausage grease mixed in with it and sometimes pieces of sausage as well.

Meatloaf is a "minced-meat" / onion / bell pepper / crackers or bread crumbs / eggs / ketchup formed into a loaf and baked - it's great with mashed potatoes and fresh green beans with bacon in them....GREAT MEAL!! Chicken Fried Steak IS usually STEAK that fried as you would fry CHICKEN....so: it's Chicken-Fried...Steak....Steak, fried as you'd fry chicken....and, IT'S SO GOOD!!! Again - usually served with mashed potatoes and green beans, or another green veg....and, the steak is smothered in cream-gravy (usually made from 1/2 meat fat & 1/2 flour - cook the fat / flour until lightly browned and add milk to it....)...SO GOOD - YOU'D LOVE IT!!! Sausage-gravy is just cream gravy with fried bulk sausage fried IN it....and, it's GREAT over BISCUITS. Biscuits are much more of a savory and softer bread item than scones....lightly crisp on the outside and fluffy-soft on the inside - again: YOU'D LOVE THEM!!!

Meat loaf goes best with salty buttered sweet corn, green beans and gravy drenched mashed potatoes. Buttered rolls are optional. Left over sandwiches are also ideal. No waste!

Meatloaf is just minced beef, dry bread crumbs, eggs (yolks), minced onion, and seasonings. Mix it all up, put in a loaf pan, and bake it. You can add just about anything you want. A couple of squirts of steak sauce is a crowd favorite. Usually served with potatoes, but it goes with everything.

Adam, that is NOT meatloaf haha. He picked a stock photo of some sort ot canned, pressed ham or some other slop! The old-school meatloaf here in the US is a combination of ground beef, veal and pork, bread crumbs or crackers of your choice or even oatmeal! What ever you like as a "binder". One egg is needed per pound of meat, onion any salt and pepper. From here you can do pretty much anything you want! I usually put a nice sweet and spicy BBQ sauce in mine and also slather the sauce on the top of the loaf. Bake till done all the through. NOTE: Most people just use ground beef nowadays since it's far cheaper! DO one! The loaf can be sliced for sandwiches ffor the next couple of days and are the best leftovers fried up and with eggs and cheese fir breakfast!

For meatloaf (which was terribly represented) my family usually eats it with a tomato-based sauce (not ketchup). Ours we usually make with ground beef, bell peppers, onions, breadcrumbs and spices, and it doesn't look so processed. Chicken-fried steak is cube steak (minute steak in the UK) that's been battered and fried in chicken fat. It may be called country fried instead if it wasn't specifically fried in chicken fat. The gravy with biscuits and gravy is usually made with the leftover grease from frying breakfast sausage (having its own set of spices, which are imparted to the gravy), then adding in milk, flour and black pepper.

I live in Massachusetts, where Clam Chowder is served regularly and is absolutely delicious. I make a mean meatloaf myself, and my husband loves it. The one in the video looks kind of gross, but there's many variations. I absolutely love chicken fried steak. I used to order it after a late night out. It's a steak that's battered and fried like a chicken. Warm cornbread with honey butter is heavenly. Biscuits and gravy are really delicious. The white gravy is peppery and has a bit of sausage in it. The biscuits are a buttery goodness. Tacos are one of my favorite foods. I used to live in Los Angeles, where they had authentic Mexican tacos, and they are so good!!

As some have explained, chicken fried steak is a dish you would fix like fried chicken. Many will use a cube steak, but you can use a better cut of meat, just pound it thin. It’s served with gravy. As for cornbread, it is yellow & has been served with dishes such as chili, beans (white, navy, red or black) or fried chicken. It’s also used to make stuffing for Thanksgiving. Meatloaf is traditionally made with ground beef & people fix it to their tastes. You add eggs, dried bread crumbs, onions, spices of your choice, some add milk to prevent it from drying out, & a glaze which again varies. The basic recipe is ketchup & brown sugar, but some add chili sauce while others use tomato sauce. Wrapping it in bacon has become popular as of late.

Meatloaf, Lawrence mistakenly showed ham loaf BTW, is served with a homestyle dinner(starch, veggie, salad, bread) sliced and still warm with gravy. It is even better the next day ,though, sliced and used in a sandwich cold.Chicken fried steak is a tenderized ,breaded beef schnitzel cooked fried chicken style and served with white gravy.There is also Chicken Fried Chicken which is a boneless chicken schnitzel cooked the same way and also served with white gravy.Good White Gravy is usually heavily seasoned with Black Pepper,in addition to the spices from the sausage in it.Simple Meatloaf is ground beef,minced onion(sauté the onions if you simply must)a beaten egg,dry bread crumbs,salt and pepper,herbs(Italian or French dried mix is fine),tomato sauce or(GASP!) tomato ketchup.Mix together adding sauce or crumbs as needed until it holds a loaf shape.Place in a loaf pan.Bake in a moderate oven about an hour or until it seems firm and has browned on top,use a thermometer if needed.If desired,near the end you can glaze the top with more ketchup or tomato sauce.When the glaze has cooked in check doneness.Rest a bit,serve still warm.Brown gravy can be made if you want to use the drippings.

I once made a bizarre meatloaf with a mix of beef and pork seasoned with Italian seasoning and diced pepperoni, onions, peppers and mushrooms. I then took cooked sliced Italian sausage and mozzarella+Parmesan cheese and filled a large bell pepper with both ends cut off. after making a half inch platform I placed the pepper and molded the rest of the mix around it. I then shingled the outside with pepperoni slices and baked it on an open slatted roasting pan (for fat drainage). When nearly done I covered with mozzarella and after it melted I let it rest a while. Then sliced and spooned pizza sauce over it. The slices had a cool pepper ring filled with sausage and cheese in the center. Can't resist playing with my food!

1. Clam Chowder is usually either New England style (creamy white base) or Manhattan style (red tomato base.) It's just soup. And the canned Campbell's or Progresso brand versions are pretty decent. Not great, but decent. 2. Meat loaf. I don't know WTF Lawrence was showing in his pictures of meatloaf, but it sure as heckfire wasn't anything like the homey comfort food dish that many/most Americans grew up with. It's properly made with ground beef ("mince") mixed with filler (bread or cracker crumbs, or even crushed up plain corn flakes) and a binder (almost always an egg or two.) Often, sauteed diced onions are included in the loaf. Throw it into a bread pan and throw it into the oven. When done, it's often topped with ketchup. You take a slice, put on some more ketchup, and eat it with a fork. Baked potato or mashed potatoes & gravy, and maybe some green beans or corn would be common side dishes for meat loaf night. 3. Chicken fried steak. It's beef steak (a tough, cheap cut called "cube steak" that has been tenderized physically with a mallet or other machine until it's tender/edible.) It's then COOKED LIKE FRIED CHICKEN - battered and breaded and shallow fried in oil or lard. Topped with a peppery country gravy (which is a white cream or milk gravy that is very similar to bechamel.) It was my go-to order at sit-down restaurants on debate trips in high school and college. Serve with mashed potatoes (and more gravy) and some vegetable, usually green beans or corn (again.) 4. Cornbread. It's just good. Eat some. You didn't seem to have any problem with the rest of them. They're delicious items. Try them.

Clam chowder, both New England and Manhattan style are delicious. That doesn’t look like meatloaf! Looks more like a French Terrine. Anyway, cold meatloaf sandwiches are great. Haven’t had chicken fried steak since my school days in the cafeteria. It is beef and it is good with mashed potatoes and gravy. Chicken fried as in how you would fry chicken but using beef. Chili and cornbread. Biscuits and gravy, Mmm. I don’t consider biscuits to be bread, they’re biscuits. Tacos are good too. Salsa, guacamole and sour cream.

There are two main types of clam chowder. New England clam chowder is white potato soup with clams in it. Extremely good and one of my favorites. Manhattan clam chowder is a 🍅 based soup with clams in it. Also good, but I prefer the New England style. A similar soup is lobster bisque, a creamy soup with bits of 🦞 in it. Another one of my favorites!

Breaded , in an egg wash , coated in bread crumbs and fried in a pan - similar to the coating of Scotch Eggs. Served with a white or milk based gravy, like we use on biscuits or with chicken meals ( ie chicken gravy) it is absolutely delicious- and contains No Chicken!!!

I once was in a restaurant with a bunch of college students, and one was recently from France. They had him convinced that, just in Texas, we train the chickens to cook the steaks in our restaurant kitchens. They couldn't keep from laughing when he wanted to know if they would let him into the kitchen to watch? 😂😂😂😂🤠

Chicken Fried Steak is a thin slice of beef that has been pounded with a tenderizing mallet until it is barely holding together. It's then floured and battered (dipped in a breading batter of a beaten egg) and then fried until golden brown. Then it is served with white country gravy (made from the left over oil from frying the steak, flour, and milk) or you can use regular brown gravy. It is usually served with mashed potatoes and a vegtable like corn or green beans. The best CFS is found in Texas. The Denny's resturant chain has an acceptable version. They call it "Chicken Fried Steak" because it's fried exact;ly like Southern Fried Chicken. So it has that crunchy outer crust.

8:50 'country' gravy is a flour and cream based gravy with meat drippings from the meat you cooked first (usually ground breakfast sausage) and ground black pepper... the sausage is mixed into the gravy... if there is no cooked ground breakfast sausage, then it's just called 'sawmill' gravy...

Corn bread is delicious. Meatloaf is equal amounts of ground beef and ground sausage, eggs (to help those stick together) and either ground up crackers or little bits of bread. From there, you can add whatever you like, ie onions, peppers and such. Now the big one🥶 Chicken Fried Steak starts with a thin slice of a tender section of beef. To prepare it, you'll need some flour or tempura and enough whipped eggs for the amount you're making. First you let a slice of beef sit in the whipped egg, while adding salt and pepper to taste. When the egg begins to cling to the beef, take the beef to the flour. Cover the beef with a layer of flour. Let that sit, until the egg has absorbed into all the flour. Then, repeat the last two items. Run the beef through the egg to completely cover. Then back to the flour. Now you're ready to start frying it in vegetable oil, like you would Chicken. Chicken Fried Steak is a thin piece of beef, fried like you'd fry chicken. (Chicken Fried) (Steak)

8:45 Not spicy like hot... as in it's heavily spiced. Black pepper and sausage are what make it delicious; that and the buttery Roux. If it's just a white gravy to go with fried chicken then it's just a roux, milk, and lots of salt and pepper. Try it instead of the brown stuff sometime

To answer your question about what a chowder is, its basically a cream stew. Usually with potatoes, but other ingredients can vary pretty widely. In the US, clam chowder is often the only one people have ever heard of, but there are other kinds such as corn chowder and lamb chowder. I've made lamb chowder, its really good. I got my hands on some truffles in olive oil and I used them in it. I made a huge soup in a canning pot, the soup lasted me and my roomate a week and we were sad when it was gone.

Chicken fried steak is indeed steak! It is thin cut beef that is battered and fried then topped with cream (white) gravy. Usually served with mashed or fried potatoes, another vegetable and hot biscuits

I think it depends on how you're brought up... My mom sometimes make cornbread with chili and other times she would give bread with chili... I actually prefer Italian or French bread with chili... But I do love cornbread with a nice pad of butter on it ! It's excellent with collard greens.

Chicken Fried Steak is a wonderful example of the wonderful tradition of naming American regional meals based off of HOW they are made, not WHAT they are made of... (cornbread isn't green, unless it has gone moldy like normal bread). Just think "savory, fluffy scone" instead of "sweet not fluffy treat you could dip in a drink" and American biscuits make a lot more sense.

Meat loaf served hot is generally paired with mashed potatos and some sort of vegetable. Then the leftovers are served in a sandwich with a little mayonnaise and possibly a bit of mustard. Meatloaf is made of ground beef with a little pork sausage mixed in, and fillers such as crushed soda crackers, and sometimes diced onion. I like it smothered in Catsup Leftovers are sometimes packed in sandwiches for brown-bag school lunches.

Also, most people make meat loaf with ground beef. One of the best ways is to mix the ground beef with shredded cheese (like cheddar or Colby Jack) along with an egg yolk and bread crumbs to help bind the meat together before putting it in a baking/casserole dish. You then take Ketchup and brown sugar and mix them together to make a glaze that you brush on top of the meatloaf to add flavor and seal in the juiciness.

To help explain the name logic. Chicken Fried Steak is steak that is breaded and pan fried like chicken, much like Sun-Dried Tomatoes are tomatoes dried in the sun, or Sweetened Condensed Milk is milk that has been sweetened and condensed. This generally comes from how words are ordered in the English language, the adjectives come before the subject(The Blue House), as an example of the opposite in French the subject comes before the adjectives(La Maison Bleu).

Traditionally, chicken fried steak was made with a tough cut of meat that you would tenderize the hell out of, dredge it in flour seasoned with salt, pepper, paprika, cayenne pepper, etc. and fry in a cast iron skillet. You serve it with cream gravy which is a white gravy made with flour, cream, salt, pepper and the cracklings left over from frying the steak in the skillet. SO GOOD!!!!

New England Clam Chowder is a cream based soup with clams and potatoes. The picture he showed is what we call Ham loaf, Meat loaf is usually a seasoned ground beef dish cooked in a bread pan and typically toped with ketchup. Chicken Fried Stake is usually made with a cheap cut that has been tenderized, usually with a tenderizer (metal hammer with spikes), covered is seasoned flour and fried. This is then covered with a white pan gravy. The name comes from the style of preparation. Biscuits are similar to scones, but are flaky and savory, where as scones are usually sweet and crumbly. The gravy is a made from rendering pork breakfast sausage and again making a pan gravy. Most Americans wound not call it spicy.

Adam, I think that when you go to Florida you definitely need to do a video of you trying out American Breakfast items like biscuits and gravy. I'm telling you that after you try Chicken Fried Steak (or Country Fried Steak as some would call it) and Biscuits and Sausage Gravy, you will be making it from scratch at home. I'm honestly surprised that people don't use the internet to look up American Recipes to try.

Chicken fried steak is a Southern staple. Ponded round steak covered in seasoned flour and fried crispy. You then add more seasoned flour to the pan and scrape up all the crispy bits left over, add milk and cook until thickened(milk gravy). Serve the fried steak with mash potatoes and a hot vegetable( my favorite is corn off the cob) and cover all of it in the gravy, add fresh hot biscuits and sliced tomatoes straight from the garden and you'll be I Southern Heaven

The confusion over chicken-fried steak is a linguistic one. Starting with Gen-X, people became too lazy or too confused and seemed to have stopped using the hyphen between compound words, often muddling their meaning. You can chicken fry-anything if you fry it like you would do with chicken.

It’s beef, cooked by a method that is often used with chicken. The excess grease is drained from the pan after the meat is cooked, and gravy is made from the bits, flour, milk and seasoning. Eaten with mashed potatoes, also well- gravied.

To be fair, the meatloaf he showed in the video looked nothing like any meatloaf I've ever encountered as a native of the US. That one looked like it was ham-based, but the meatloaf I've known all my life is pretty much beef with bits of onion and maybe peppers mixed in with a layer of ketchup on top. Very juicy.

Clam chowder comes in two versions, one white and one red. The white one includes dairy in addition to clams, potatoes, onions, and bacon. The red one cuts the dairy and bacon and adds tomatoes and the kind of herbs that go in spaghetti sauce. As for meatloaf, the light-colored ones pictured here seem to be pork, which is more like a French terrine. Most American meatloaf is beef and therefore darker in color. It's served hot like any kind of roast meat, with potatoes and vegetables, or else cold in a sandwich the next day.

It is steak that is fried like chicken. Chicken fried is an adjective. The steak is usually chopped. we call it cubed steak but I think there are other terms for it. You batter and fry it like chicken. So it's steak that is chicken fried.

to harp on all other comments: - meatloaf is kinda like a Salisbury Steak but made in a loaf pan. It's usually a lot deeper brown, more crumbly like hamburger meat, and served with a heavy sauce. the picture he used for meatloaf, that looks more like a deli meat than meatloaf - chicken fried steak that has been deep-fried the way chicken is deep-fried. hence: chicken-fried steak, steak that has been "chicken fried" - out of everything he listed here, your UK taste buds would probably like cornbread the most because it's one of the best additions to American comfort food. it's sweet, so it pairs well incredibly well with savory things like BBQ and other American Southern comfort food. - biscuits and gravy is sinfully good because it's essentially soft bread soaked in a dense sauce... dipping a KFC biscuit into their mashed potatoes and gravy is a special kind of fast food high.

If you think of the breading that fried chicken is fried in, it makes sense. They take chopped steak or the like and dredge it in the same stuff that chicken is dredged in before frying it. Also, Meatloaf as someone says below is made from ground meats often beef and onions, seasonings and bread crumbs are added. Its so awesome. So good as a sandwich with mayo and catsup the next day.

"Chicken Fried" refers to a method, basically we are taking a thin slice of tenderized steak and dredging it in either buttermilk or egg then into flour before frying it. That method is normally how we fry chicken hence "Chicken Fried" steak.

Someone needs to send you some Colonel's flour mix and make the chicken fried steak with white pepper gravy. Tenderized steak breaded, fried, and smothered in white pepper gravy. Dude. You totally need to make some warm buttery and flakey biscuits and gravy with breakfast sausage crumbles. Cornbread goes great with meatloaf or chicken fried steak 😋

Arugala sounds like a disease, but is upscale lettuce. Clam chowder is a stew of clams, onions, celery, carrots, milk, and some chicken broth. It is thickened with white flour. It's delicious.

Chicken fried steak is called that because it's cooked in the exact same way you would fried chicken--dredged in flour, egg and breading, and then shallow-fried. It is EXTREMELY good. Meatloaf is basically a big meat ball that you eat with either ketchup or tomato sauce. Sausage gravy is very peppery, not "spicy" as in hot peppers.

It's called chicken fried steak because we use a traditional chicken prying g method to cook, including the dredge and batter. We even have chicken fried chicken, it's served at a place called cracker barrel.

It's a steak that's fried in the same way that you would fry chicken, so chicken fried refers to the style in which it was fried, it becomes a chicken-fried steak. Also, you will be glad to know that here in Orlando we have Wawa's all over the place so you'll be able to try their food if you're curious, although we have much better food to choose from. If you want great Mexican food, Rocco's Tacos is pretty awesome. My favorite restaurant here is Cafe Tu Tu Tango, all kinds of local art is hanging on the walls, all for sale, local artists are always there working, incredible food with a multi-cultural menu. Also, the meatloaf in that video looked like garbage. Weird color to it. None of the meatloaf I've had looked like that. It's a hit or miss food. It's either really good or really bad depending on who makes it.

Basically “chicken fried steak” is “steak fried like chicken” (or how you would fry chicken). It’s usually a tougher cut and tenderized by pounding it thin. The batter/flour it like you would chicken, then you fry it in a frying pan. Then you top it with a creamy peppered gravy (about the same type of gravy you have with biscuits and gravy, except the gravy for biscuits and gravy doesn’t have chunks breakfast sausage in it). Usually served with some mashed potatoes and corn or green beans, etc…

If you look into the origin of American Biscuits and Gravy, you find that it does indeed date back to the 1500s Naval biscuits that they would soften with a form of gravy. Though when Tea was introduc3ed to Britain, then of course the idea of Tea and Biscuits started to catch on. Thus on each side of "the pond" the food dishes evolved differently.

Chick fried steak is usually a tough piece of meat that has been beaten and then dipped into a batter and fried like you would fried chicken. Hence the name, chicken fried steak and usually served with a white or brown gravy. And that meatloaf is not what Lawrence is showing. It’s ground meat seasoned like hamburger but instead of forming patties, you place it in a bread/ loaf pan and bake in the oven with bbq sauce or brown gravy Then sliced and served over mashed potato or rice. Really quite tasty.
