If you want to know why the animals in the Philippines are crazy the reason is probably that islands in general do tend to do some weird stuff to animals. 6:47. I'm a Filipino, and the Sagada Hanging Coffins are there for 2,000 years. The reason why the Igorots (the natives living in Sagada) hang the coffins, is that they believe that the higher they place, the greater chance that the spirits of their deceased will reach the highest and most tranquil place in the afterlife. I love all Geography Now. He's doing all the countries alphabetically, so the early ones in the alphabet have less production value, but they're still cool. Mexico is fun. The host, Barbs, is half-Korean and has his mother as a guest for the South Korea episode (alphabetized as Korea, South). Really, just pop into any country you're interested in and it will be fun. He's just finished Sweden, I think; Switzerland is next.

Typhoons doesn't merely affect Filipinos. But some get affected so hard, like regions, towns or cities that are in heart of the typhoon. Most Filipinos use this opportunities to have fun. You should watch the video “Bagyo ka lang, Pinoy Kami” video, it shows the Filipinos having fun during typhoons, rain and flood. If you have watched then okay!!

Filipinos are a crucial part of the U.S. military especially the navy. It is no exaggeration to say most of them are veterans of the United States military especially older men if they didn't serve in the U.S.Navy then one of the other armed forces and at one time the Philippines Army was under the U.S. and veterans of that Army are still entitled the same benefits as U.S. military veterans.

The first time I seen my dad on the news was in the Philippines He was part of IRC (INTERNATIONAL RESCUE CORP) he had been called there to help out after the earthquake I think it would have been either 1990 or the 1994 earthquake But given the cost of flying a full team out on emergency from the UK to the Philippines with all the specialist kit ect it was reserved for major quakes so this make me think it was 1990 Seeing him on TV was the first time I knew he was ok because he only got to use the satellite Phone at the end of the first week They was a fantastic team and helped more than one could imagine the following day I watched the news my dad wasn't talking this time but in the background he was on his way out from under the buildings and just as he cleared it an aftershocks hit he was about 1m clear before it collapsed At that age terrifying But not like it would have been for the people living there thoughts with anyone that lived through the worry and insecurity it would have brought

I've been to an active volcano in Indonesia, erupted like 2 years after I was there. Pretty nice spot. People actually live up there on the edge of it.

@@TheBeesleys99 Earthquakes does happen here in the Philippines. But it doesn't happen often. So you don't need to worry. If there is an earthquake, many will warn you. Volcano eruption doesn't always happen in some areas with volcanos but I'm sure you know the warnings already. Typhoons only happens atleast one every year. Only thing you need to worry about are rain and extreme heat. But you can always cool off with some ice cream, halo-halo and many more cold deserts. People will be friendly to you as long as you're friendly at them. Well.. the geography video itself speaks for all but just so minor explanations. Have a good day/night.

6:49 It is a long held tradition. You see the hanging coffins on specials (Nat Geographic, etc) from time to time. I'm sure there is a reason. The Philippines is threatened by a lot of Typhoons (their Hurricanes) and many are very strong. 12:58 Fertilized eggs are big in some Asian countries. I'm not a picky eater like you, but I ain't trying any of that. 😁 14:41 That is no joke. Prisoners actually do dance. (see link below about an Irish film maker that caught this on film) Many inmates are quite good and could dance professionally. Except they are in prison most for life. LOL!! Filipina nurses are very common in the United States. It's funny that there is a professional basketball team in the Philippines called The Alaska Aces. The basketball teams take their names from the companies that sponsor them, and the Aces' sponsor is Alaska Milk.

I am an American (California) where there is a huge population of Filipinos (mostly nurses) in fact I am married to one. They are the most welcoming people. We went to the Philippines a few years ago and when we first landed in Manila it was 11:00pm local time. It was about 90* F and about 80% humidity - A huge shock. When we got to Bagio in the North it was full of pine trees and the heat and humidity were way better. My new family was so kind and they did everything to make sure my time there was as great as it could be. It was so great to experience being there and would love to visit again. We have been married for 14 years now and I only know a few words in Tagalog. It's OK she can have her secret language and speak to me in English.

6:50 THE PEOPLE OF SAGADA FOLLOW a unique burial ritual. The elderly carve their own coffins out of hollowed logs. If they are too weak or ill, their families prepare their coffins instead. The dead are placed inside their coffins (sometimes breaking their bones in the process of fitting them in), and the coffins are brought to a cave for burial. Instead of being placed into the ground, the coffins are hung either inside the caves or on the face of the cliffs, near the hanging coffins of their ancestors. The Sagada people have been practicing such burials for over 2,000 years, and some of the coffins are well over a century old. Eventually the coffins deteriorate and fall from their precarious positions. The reason the coffins were hung was due to the belief that the higher the dead were placed, the greater chance of their spirits reaching a higher nature in the afterlife. Many of the locations of the coffins are difficult to reach (and obviously should be left alone out of respect), but can be appreciated from afar.

In Pan-Philippine hwy You are not going trough the tunnels if you choose the more efficient Because from the North Luzon Express way You can Choose which way if you want more cheap you have to go trough to that tunnels But if you are willing to pay Just Hop in to the Skyway (The main Elevated Toll Road Network) It will lead you straight to the southern part without going through that tunnels. Except if you start the trip on the North😳

you will hardly find any Filipino, born and raised in the Philippines that will pick "Pacific Islanders" over "Asians". it's not completely connected by road, inter-island ferries connects most of it as the plan to connected by road has been suspended for decades.

Beesley, I'm not sure if what he said at the beginning (sounded like mahg-SEE-oo-la) is Tagalog (tah-GAH-lug), or if it's a minority language such as Cebuano (seh-BWAH-no), but it sounds like the former. luh-SOAN? I've always heard Luzon pronounced lou-ZAHN, and I've been there twice, have friends from there living in my Illinois city, and know Americans who've worked there for decades, plus Wikipedia agrees with me. Also, I always heard it called Metro Manila, rather than Manila Metro. When he got to the volcanism, he mentioned Palawan, and pronounced it as PAL-uh-wahn. It's not! It's pah-LAH-wahn. There's a Cagayan River named at 9:11, and pronounced cah-GUY-un, but down on Mindanao, there's a town named Cagayan de Oro which I visited, and it's pronounced COG-eye-on, so I'm assuming this is yet another blooper. Typhoon is the name for hurricanes in the western Pacific, whereas in the Indian Ocean, they're called cyclones. At 17:11, they missed a letter in the city name: ZaMboanga. For a number of years I had a barong, and really liked it. It serves the same purpose as Hawaii's aloha shirts--dress up that's not as hot as a jacket and tie in a tropical climate. The national dance is tin-ICK-ling, rather than TEEN-ee-cling (Tinikling).

Before America came to the Philippines, the country was named "Las Islas de Filipinas". So, the nationality of the people was "Filipinos". When the Americans came, it became "Philippines" in honor of Prince Phillip of Spain. Then, why is the nationality not "Philippians"? "Filipinos" is the appropriate nationality for "Filipinas" in honor of Principe Felipe. What do you think? The official name of the country is "Republika Ng Pilipinas". The Anglicized version "Philppines" is okay, too.

Just FYI, regarding "Day of the Dead," in the Americas it's origin is Mexico, and that's its link with the Philippines. But it is celebrated in many parts of the US in places where Mexican cultural influence is strong. It comes about the same time as Halloween, so it has kind of mixed with Halloween traditions in some places. I was in Santa Fe, New Mexico, a couple of years ago around Halloween, and the celebration of Day of the Dead was very prominent, with decorations of skulls and skeletons in all of the store windows, offerings to the dead in graveyards on tombstones, local activities. As for Filipinos in Hawaii, they are a large group. About 40% of the people in Hawaii are Asian in background, and the largest Asian group is Filipino. And based on where Hawaii is located, that makes sense. If you mention something you're curious about and I can fill in some info, I try to do that. :)

No one knows. And other Filipinos don't even realize that almost all of us are half Chinese or Spanish or American, Indonesian . Pretty much all kinds of race. I myself have a Spanish blood from my grandma. And I live in Luzon nueva ecija. But still they thought I'm a pure pinoy. I may look so pinoy but you might want to know more. I'm calling out Filipinos out there. You might not know. Maybe you're a HALF yourself
